Abstract

Education plays an important role in national development, and improving educational quality has become a priority of the Indonesian government through the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, which provides schools with greater flexibility to design learning according to students’ characteristics and needs. However, learning difficulties in science subjects remain a challenge, influenced by factors such as ineffective teaching strategies, limited conceptual understanding among teachers, differences in students’ learning styles, and environmental conditions at home and school. This study employed a qualitative approach to explore learning difficulties experienced by students implementing the independent learning curriculum. The findings show that students face learning difficulties in three main aspects: social interaction, perception, and memory. These difficulties affect students’ ability to respond to teachers’ questions, academic performance, motivation, and self-confidence. The results indicate the need for more effective teaching strategies that emphasize repetition, memory reinforcement, and the reduction of learning distractions, supported by the role of teachers and a supportive learning environment to help students overcome these challenges.

Abstract

Through collaborative problem-solving and critical thinking, students engage in the Think-Pair-Share approach, or "TPS." The objective of this approach is to improve students' critical thinking, communication, and cooperative learning skills. Students are given time to reflect alone before being broken into pairs to debate and exchange ideas. Afterwards, they report back to the class on what they discussed (Arifin, 2020). The purpose of this research is to assess the TPS learning model's efficacy in improving third-grade students' learning outcomes at the State Elementary School in Kota Padang when applied through experimental approaches. The researchers will perform this study with experimental designs that include both treated and untreated random control groups. While the TPS learning model includes experimental procedures as independent variables, students' learning outcomes may be monitored through academic examinations and performance assessments. Some students graduate but do not pass the KKM; the KKM for the IPA courses is 70; students who pass have a higher score than KKM, whilst students who do not graduate have a lower score from KKM. The average comparison test is done using the t-test; produced thitung value = 2,4029 and ttable value = 1,9971 at a significant level α = 5%. Thitung is larger than ttable, hence H0 is rejected. Improve the quality of education by obtaining broad knowledge, such as the ability to use a learning model that is appropriate for the topic. Consider the learning model Think Pair Share (TPS). According to the study, experimental approaches in learning, particularly IPA, aid to improve learners' cognitive learning results.

Abstract

Science education plays a vital role in the development of science and technology, especially in an era that demands the integration of science, technology, and society. The Science, Technology, and Society (STM) learning model provides a holistic approach to teaching energy concepts by connecting scientific knowledge with social contexts and value considerations. This study aims to examine the effect of the STM learning model on students’ learning outcomes related to value-based energy concepts. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest posttest method. The STM learning model was applied by linking energy topics with real-life issues and societal values. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and student response questionnaires. The results indicate that students responded positively to the implementation of the STM model, with 40% of students showing the highest level of positive response. However, student interest in conventional physics learning activities remained the lowest response indicator. The findings suggest that integrating societal and value aspects into energy instruction can enhance student engagement and conceptual understanding. The STM learning model helps bridge theoretical knowledge with its relevance to daily life. To further improve student interest, the use of varied instructional strategies such as discussions and field observations is recommended to create a more meaningful learning environment.
