Abstract: This study aims to analyze the innovation of active and attractive learning models in increasing the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). In implementing this learning model, teachers and students must play an active role in the learning process, especially educators as learning facilitators. And the method used in this study is qualitative with the type of library research (literature study), where researchers searched for various journal articles, books, and other scientific works that are relevant to the research study as references in writing. The results of the study show that by implementing active and attractive methods in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning, an effective learning will be created which will make students more active not only listening, but they can be more optimal in learning. So in this case, teachers as educational facilitators must have what is called a teacher's competence that will lead students to achieve learning goals. The purpose of this study is to see how active and attractive learning methods can be more effective in learning, so that students and teachers are easier to achieve learning goals.

Abstract

Contemporary education is increasingly dominated by instrumental rationality, technocratic management, and efficiency-oriented approaches, which often marginalize ethical, spiritual, and moral dimensions. In Islamic education, this condition creates a tension between normative ideals that emphasize moral and spiritual formation and the uncritical adoption of modern educational paradigms. This study aims to examine the relevance of Taha Abdurrahman’s Islamic educational thought in addressing the challenges of modern education, particularly moral crisis, secularization, and the reduction of education to technical skill transmission. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes primary works of Taha Abdurrahman and relevant secondary literature on Islamic education, philosophy of education, and modernity. Data were examined through content analysis with a philosophical-critical perspective to identify and synthesize key concepts such as ethical rationality (al-‘aql al-akhlāqī), moral responsibility (amanah), and spiritual consciousness. The findings indicate that Taha Abdurrahman offers a coherent ethical-spiritual framework that critiques instrumental rationality and secularized education while proposing an integrative model that unites knowledge, ethics, and spirituality. His thought highlights education as a process of moral and character formation rather than mere cognitive achievement. The study implies that Islamic education can benefit from reorienting its goals, curriculum, and pedagogical practices toward ethical and spiritual integration. In conclusion, Taha Abdurrahman’s educational philosophy provides a relevant conceptual foundation for renewing Islamic education in responding to modern challenges, while maintaining its moral identity and humanistic orientation, and offers direction for further theoretical and applied research.

Abstract

This study discusses the humanitarian crisis of the 21st century by reviewing the historical experiences of the Abbasid Dynasty and the thoughts of Imam al-Ghazali. Globalisation, which has brought advances in science and technology while also giving rise to humanitarian problems such as social inequality, moral decadence, and spiritual disorientation, shows a pattern similar to the decline of Islamic civilisation during the Abbasid period. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data was collected from classical and contemporary literature, then analysed through content analysis and a historical-comparative approach. The results of the study show that the decline of the Abbasids was not only caused by external attacks, but also by internal crises in the form of weak morality, corruption, and a loss of spiritual orientation. Imam al-Ghazali's thoughts, particularly in Ihya 'Ulum al-Din, emphasise the importance of purifying the heart, strengthening morality, and integrating knowledge with faith and ethics as fundamental solutions to the humanitarian crisis. Thus, the historical lessons from the Abbasids and al-Ghazali's thoughts provide important reflections for modern global society to not only focus on material progress but also to build moral and spiritual foundations for the creation of a just and sustainable civilisation. Keywords: Humanitarian Crisis, Abbasid Dynasty, Imam al-Ghazali.

Abstract

Higher education Islamic Religious Education plays a strategic role in shaping students who not only understand Islamic teachings conceptually but also internalize spiritual values in their daily lives. However, learning practices in universities often emphasize cognitive understanding rather than the integration of cognitive and affective dimensions. This study aims to analyze the implementation of mind mapping in the “Manusia Bertuhan” (Human as a Theistic Being) learning material to integrate students’ cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness in the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The participants consisted of 38 management students enrolled in the Islamic Religious Education course in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through cognitive tests, a spiritual awareness questionnaire using a Likert scale, observation sheets of student engagement, and assessment rubrics for mind mapping products. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, paired sample t-test, normalized gain (N-gain), correlation analysis, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d) using SPSS. The findings revealed significant improvements in both cognitive and affective domains after the implementation of mind mapping. The mean cognitive score increased from 67.4 to 82.6, while spiritual awareness scores increased from 72.1 to 85.3. The paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.87). In addition, correlation analysis indicated a positive relationship between cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness (r = 0.61, p < 0.01). These results suggest that mind mapping effectively supports the integration of knowledge and value internalization in Islamic Religious Education learning. The study implies that visual and student-centered learning strategies can strengthen both conceptual understanding and spiritual development of university students. Future studies may expand the design using control groups and broader academic contexts.

Abstract

This paper investigates the evolution of the marriage contract (al-aqdu al-nikah) facilitated by digital methods in contemporary society, emphasizing its legitimacy under Islamic law. The swift advancement of communication technology has facilitated the phenomenon of virtual marriage, prompting inquiries over the validity of ijab qabul conducted through online platforms. This occurrence necessitates an exhaustive legal examination rooted in Islamic jurisprudence. The aim of this study is to examine the permissibility and legal standing of virtual marriage contracts within an Islamic legal framework. This study utilizes a qualitative research methodology through a normative juridical lens, drawing on primary sources including the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical fiqh literature, alongside contemporary scholarly perspectives. The results demonstrate that the legitimacy of a digital marriage contract is contingent upon the satisfaction of fundamental pillars (rukun) and conditions (syarat) of marriage, including the presence of the bride and groom, witnesses, consent, and the clarity of ijab qabul, even when executed via digital medium. Nevertheless, scholarly disagreements endure, especially about matters of physical presence and the associated hazards of deception. under conclusion, virtual marriage may be deemed valid under Islamic law under specific conditions, contingent upon the fulfillment of all essential prerequisites and the establishment of legal protections.

Abstract

The development of the times in the global era provides opportunities and challenges for Islamic religious education. One of the challenges is the entry of liberalism. The purpose of this research is to provide an understanding of the entry of liberalism as a result of global openness to Islamic religious education and efforts to minimize the negative impact of liberalism. The research method used is a qualitative approach to the literature study method, with data analysis techniques including the stage: data reduction, data presentation, and verification as well as drawing conclusions. Results obtained: 1) Liberalism in Islamic education should be linked to transcendental relations as the foundation and limitation of liberal action itself; 2) Liberalism has a positive impact that is momentary and a negative impact that is long-term; 3) Efforts that need to be made to minimize the negative impact of liberalism in Islamic education are the need for strategies and policies that are relevant to the needs and adjusted to the philosophical and sociological foundations of Indonesian society. Implications: the findings show the need for an affirmation between liberalism and the transcendental foundation in Islamic education and the urgency of awareness of the dualistic impact of liberalism. Conclusion: liberalism in Islamic education must be limited considering the impact it causes, so that policies that are in accordance with the needs based on the philosophical and sociological needs of the Indonesian nation are needed.

Abstract

Urban Sufism has emerged as a contemporary spiritual phenomenon reflecting the adaptation of Islamic mysticism (tasawwuf) to the dynamics of modernity and urban life. Modernity—characterized by accelerated lifestyles, productivity pressures, individualism, and meaning crises—creates new contemplative needs within urban communities. This study aims to explain the concept, characteristics, and functions of urban Sufism as a spiritual response to psychological and social pressures in modern urban contexts. Employing a library research method, this study analyzes contemporary academic literature using a descriptive–qualitative content analysis approach. Findings indicate that urban Sufism does not merely relocate classical Sufi practices into urban settings; rather, it transforms them to become more relevant, flexible, and integrated with contemporary lifestyles. Its practices include silent dhikr, Islamic meditation, informal Sufi study groups, and spiritual communities rooted in alternative spaces such as cafés, libraries, and digital platforms. Key characteristics include egalitarian community structures, minimalist spiritual practices, the use of modern psychological language, and strong digital connectivity. The study also highlights significant differences between urban and rural Sufism, particularly in social context, community structure, practice settings, and spiritual motivations. Furthermore, urban Sufism functions as a contemplative mechanism that alleviates stress, addresses existential crises, strengthens spiritual identity, and rebuilds social connectedness diminished by individualistic culture. In conclusion, urban Sufism represents an adaptive and inclusive form of Islamic spirituality with the potential to develop into a global spiritual model, particularly among young adults and urban professionals in contemporary society.
