Abstract

This community service programme implemented community-based Islamic education initiatives with the aim of promoting religious moderation. The programme was implemented using participatory methods involving local community members, teachers, and religious authorities. The principal activities comprised collaborative discussions, mentoring sessions, and instructional workshops that emphasised inclusive religious understanding, tolerance, and social harmony. Data were collected through observations, participant feedback, and reflective assessments to evaluate shifts in participants' understanding of and attitudes toward religious diversity. The findings indicate that community-based Islamic education effectively deepens participants' understanding of moderate religious principles and fosters positive social interactions. The programme further demonstrates that collaborative and contextual pedagogical approaches can serve as strategic tools for promoting social cohesion and countering exclusivism in diverse societies. The study concludes that well-organised community engagement grounded in Islamic educational principles contributes significantly to fostering religious moderation and sustained social harmony.

Abstract

Since elementary school, all students must master basic literacy, which includes the ability to read, write, and count, also known as calistung. This research aims to explain how the literacy and numeracy mentoring program is used to improve the basic literacy of elementary school students in Bugis Tua Village. This activity uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. One research model that attempts to connect research with social change is participatory action research. The results of this study indicate that implementing calistung activities for 12 days can help children's development. Children can learn to read, starting from spelling letters to words. On the other hand, children are able to distinguish between vowels and consonants, dictate letters, and recognize punctuation in every piece of writing. They can memorize multiplication and are proficient in addition. This study concludes that the Calistung (reading, writing, and arithmetic) mentoring program aimed at strengthening basic literacy skills of elementary school students in Bugis Tua Village, Indramayu, has proven to have a positive impact on improving children's basic skills, both through school learning activities and additional guidance sessions.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to optimize parental roles through parenting activities in an effort to foster children with positive character in Dusun Jadugan. The main issue underlying this program was the limited understanding and involvement of parents in the child-rearing process, wherein children’s education was often perceived as the sole responsibility of schools. The program was implemented using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that actively involved parents at every stage, including problem identification, action planning, implementation, and reflection. The participants consisted of 1s5 parents who took part in a parenting seminar based on dialogical interaction and shared experiences. The results indicated that the participatory PAR approach effectively encouraged active parental involvement and fostered new awareness of the importance of the family as the primary environment for children’s education and character development. The collective reflection process revealed a shift in parents’ perspectives toward more positive, communicative, and contextual parenting practices. The discussion of the program’s outcomes was further strengthened by relevant theoretical frameworks and previous studies on parenting, parental involvement, and community-based empowerment. Therefore, parenting programs based on the PAR approach proved to be relevant and effective as a community service model for optimizing parental roles and supporting children’s holistic and sustainable development.

Abstract

Limited fine motor skills represent a significant challenge for students at Bauzan Jaya Early Childhood Education (PAUD), where the daily learning process does not optimally facilitate the development of these essential skills. This problem is rooted in the lack of variety in interesting and relevant learning methods and media, resulting in suboptimal stimulation of students' fine motor skills. The main objective of this community service activity is to improve students' fine motor skills through the implementation of a cow milking simulation training method. The implementation method of this activity is carried out through three main stages: (1) observation and needs analysis to identify students' initial level of fine motor skills and the availability of resources; (2) designing and creating safe and attractive cow milking simulation media; and (3) implementing practical training in cow milking simulations involving squeezing, pinching, and pressing activities. The results demonstrate a significant increase in students' fine motor skills, particularly in aspects of eye-hand coordination, finger strength, and dexterity in grasping and releasing objects. The activity also yielded the diversification of innovative, effective, and enjoyable learning methods, which directly contribute to increasing students' readiness to enter the next level of education. This activity successfully provided an easily adaptable and sustainable alternative learning medium for Bauzan Jaya PAUD teachers to use.

Abstract

The quality of early childhood education at Mardhatilah Kindergarten remains low due to limited use of interactive technology and insufficient teacher understanding of innovative digital media. This community service project aims to enhance teachers’ instructional quality by integrating deep learning technology and digital literacy to create more adaptive and engaging learning environments. The study employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, consisting of diagnosis, participatory planning, action, observation, and reflection. Teachers actively participated in designing AI-based learning media, including visual–auditory object recognition supported by deep learning. The findings indicate a significant improvement in teachers’ digital competencies, particularly in operating AI-assisted learning tools. This advancement contributed to increased student engagement and improved comprehension through interactive AI-generated visualizations. Furthermore, the integration of deep learning with digital literacy enabled teachers to transform conventional teaching methods into more effective and relevant practices aligned with contemporary educational demands. In conclusion, the integration of deep learning and digital literacy through PAR effectively empowers early childhood educators to develop innovative, adaptive, and high-quality learning environments. The synergy between artificial intelligence and creative pedagogy is essential for sustainably improving early childhood education standards.
