Abstract

This study examines the evolution of pesantren curriculum within the context of Dutch colonial educational politics through a historical-critical literature review approach. The research analyzes how pesantren institutions responded to external political pressures while maintaining their religious identity and educational autonomy. The findings reveal that curriculum transformation in pesantren was not merely reactive but constituted a complex process of reconstruction involving selective integration between Islamic traditional knowledge and modern educational elements. Mechanisms such as muadalah, curriculum integration, and the central role of kiai functioned as key drivers in shaping adaptive and context-sensitive curricular models. Furthermore, regional variations demonstrate that pesantren evolution followed diverse trajectories influenced by socio-cultural, institutional, and resource-based factors. These transformations contributed to the emergence of pesantren as hybrid educational institutions capable of bridging religious traditions with national education systems. The study highlights that pesantren curriculum evolution represents a form of epistemological resilience, enabling Islamic education to remain relevant amid changing political and educational landscapes.

Abstract

This study examines Islamic education in South Sulawesi through a historical and sociological perspective using a qualitative library research approach. The analysis integrates historiographical and sociological frameworks to reconstruct the development of Islamic educational institutions and interpret their social implications. Findings indicate that Islamic education evolved from early informal and community-based learning systems into structured institutional forms, reflecting adaptive responses to socio-cultural and intellectual transformations. The study reveals that Islamic education has functioned not only as a medium of religious knowledge transmission but also as a mechanism for shaping social norms, collective identity, and moral values. Furthermore, contemporary developments demonstrate an epistemological shift toward integrative and inclusive educational models that reconcile religious and scientific knowledge. These models emphasize character formation, multicultural awareness, and moderation, positioning Islamic education as a dynamic agent of social change. The research contributes to the academic discourse by offering a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected historical trajectories and social functions of Islamic education in a localized Indonesian context. It highlights the significance of adaptive educational paradigms in sustaining relevance within rapidly changing global environments.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Islamic education systems in Indonesia during the Japanese occupation (1942–1945) through a historical-critical qualitative approach based on primary and secondary literature sources. The analysis explores institutional restructuring, curricular recontextualization, and the socio-cultural dynamics shaping educational practices under military rule. Findings indicate that Japanese policies imposed administrative control and ideological alignment, leading to structural adjustments within Islamic educational institutions. Simultaneously, curriculum simplification and pedagogical adaptations emerged as strategic responses to maintain the continuity of Islamic knowledge within constrained environments. The study also highlights the pivotal role of local actors, including ulama, santri, and Islamic organizations, in mediating between colonial authority and community needs. Their adaptive strategies fostered resilience, preserved religious identity, and facilitated the transmission of knowledge through flexible social networks. The interaction between external pressure and internal agency generated a dynamic transformation that extended beyond survival, contributing to the formation of a national Islamic education identity. This transitional phase significantly influenced the post-independence integration of Islamic education into the broader national education system.

Abstract

This study examines the periodization of Islamic education in Indonesia by analyzing its transformation from the classical era to the modern period through a historical-qualitative approach. The research is based on non-empirical data derived from academic literature, scholarly articles, and relevant historical documents, selected through purposive criteria to ensure academic credibility and thematic relevance. The analysis employs a historical methodology involving heuristic data collection, source criticism, and contextual interpretation, followed by historiographical synthesis to construct a coherent narrative of educational development. The findings reveal that Islamic education in Indonesia has undergone a multidimensional transformation encompassing institutional restructuring, shifts in educational orientation, and the reconstruction of epistemological frameworks. Institutional changes reflect the adaptation of educational systems to socio-political demands, while epistemological developments indicate a transition from dichotomous knowledge structures toward integrative paradigms. Furthermore, contemporary dynamics demonstrate the influence of globalization, digitalization, and intellectual reform in shaping more adaptive and transformative educational models. The study concludes that Islamic education in Indonesia represents a dynamic system that continuously negotiates between tradition and modernity, enabling it to remain relevant within changing global contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of reference and referent in everyday English communication through an empirical qualitative approach grounded in descriptive discourse analysis. The research examines naturally occurring spoken and written interactions containing personal, demonstrative, and definite reference forms to understand how referential expressions function within context-dependent communication. The findings reveal that personal reference predominantly operates through pronouns that enhance discourse efficiency by minimizing lexical repetition while maintaining referential continuity. Demonstrative reference is shown to depend heavily on shared contextual knowledge, situational cues, and interactional alignment between interlocutors, particularly in digitally mediated communication where contextual compression frequently increases interpretive ambiguity. Definite reference further demonstrates that successful communication relies on mutual cognitive accessibility and collaborative negotiation of meaning rather than solely grammatical structure. The study also identifies conversational repair and contextual inference as essential mechanisms for resolving referential ambiguity during interaction. These findings contribute to semantics and pragmatics by emphasizing that reference constitutes a dynamic interactional process shaped by discourse accessibility, common ground, and communicative cooperation in contemporary English communication environments.

Abstract

This study investigates how literal and figurative meanings are constructed in the song lyrics of “Fix You” by Coldplay through a non-empirical qualitative semantic analysis. The research examines the interaction between denotative and connotative language in shaping emotional representation within musical discourse. Data were drawn from the official lyrics and analyzed using semantic frameworks informed by theories of Lyons, Kreidler, Lakoff, and Johnson. The findings reveal that figurative meanings, particularly metaphors and symbolic expressions, dominate the lyrical structure, while literal expressions function as contextual anchors that support interpretative coherence. Emotional experiences such as loss, hope, and psychological struggle are predominantly conveyed through conceptual metaphors grounded in embodied cognition. The study also highlights that literal and figurative meanings operate in an integrated semantic system rather than as separate interpretative layers. It is concluded that semantic complexity in song lyrics enhances emotional depth and interpretative flexibility, contributing to both linguistic theory and pedagogical applications in language learning contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates referential and contextual meaning in The Tortoise and the Hare by Rob John through a qualitative semantic approach grounded in textual analysis and narrative interpretation. The research aims to examine how literal lexical references interact with contextual and symbolic meanings in constructing the moral discourse of the narrative. The primary data source consisted of lexical units, narrative events, and dialogues extracted from the fable, while the analytical framework was derived from semantic theories concerning referential meaning, contextual meaning, and discourse interpretation. The findings reveal that referential meaning appears through concrete lexical expressions associated with identifiable entities, actions, and spatial structures, whereas contextual meaning emerges through behavioral representation, symbolic interaction, and inferential interpretation embedded within the narrative sequence. The study also demonstrates that semantic interpretation in literary texts depends on the interrelation between denotative reference and contextual symbolism, enabling readers to derive ethical and pedagogical implications from seemingly simple narrative forms. The analysis confirms that semantic interpretation functions not merely as lexical decoding but as a multilayered interpretive process shaped by narrative context, symbolic structure, and reader cognition.

Abstract

This study investigates the construction of meaning in the Cinderella narrative through contextual interpretation using a semantic approach. The research responds to the growing scholarly interest in examining literary narratives as complex semiotic structures in which meaning emerges through the interaction between language, symbolism, and contextual interpretation rather than through isolated lexical definitions. Employing a non-empirical qualitative design grounded in textual and semantic analysis, the study utilizes the Cinderella narrative published by World Stories as its primary data source. The analysis focuses on lexical meaning, contextual meaning, and implicit meaning identified within narrative descriptions, dialogues, symbolic objects, and situational structures. The findings reveal that lexical expressions associated with domestic labor, transformation, and social hierarchy construct broader ideological meanings concerning oppression, legitimacy, identity, and moral recognition. Contextual interpretation demonstrates that spatial settings, interpersonal relations, and temporal structures significantly influence semantic understanding within the narrative. Symbolic elements such as the glass slipper and magical transformation generate implicit meanings related to resilience, social mobility, and validation. The study confirms that semantic analysis integrated with contextual interpretation provides an effective framework for uncovering multilayered meanings embedded within literary discourse.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of an Islamic digital asset governance framework within the context of blockchain integration for zakat transparency and digital estate planning in Indonesia. The research responds to the growing tension between rapid technological transformation in Islamic finance and the absence of comprehensive sharia-oriented regulatory mechanisms governing crypto assets, decentralized transactions, and digital inheritance systems. Employing a non-empirical juridical-normative method, the study analyzes statutory regulations, DSN-MUI fatwas, comparative international regulatory models, and interdisciplinary scholarly literature concerning Islamic fintech, blockchain governance, and Maqasid Shariah. The findings indicate that existing regulatory approaches remain fragmented because financial supervision, sharia compliance, and inheritance governance operate within disconnected institutional frameworks. Blockchain technology demonstrates significant potential to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in zakat and waqf management through immutable ledgers and automated smart-contract mechanisms, although unresolved cyber risks, speculative volatility, and succession vulnerabilities continue to threaten the principle of hifzh al-mal. The study formulates the Islamic Digital Asset Governance Framework (IDAGF), integrating technical supervision, sharia certification, judicial authorization, and social-finance accountability into a multilayered governance structure capable of harmonizing algorithmic innovation with Islamic legal certainty and sustainable digital financial ethics.
