Abstract

This research aims is to determine farming patterns or optimized combination of existing sub farming to maximize income, to calculated farming cost and income of existing farming pattern, and to know farmer’s problems in applying optimized farming pattern. There are two dominant farming patterns in research area, i.e: (i) big chilly - small chilly – cucumber; and (ii) egg plant - string bean - tomato. Based on linear programming approach, the optimum farming pattern for the first pattern is big chilly - small chilly; and the second one is egg plant - tomato. After being optimized, the income of first pattern increases from Rp 7,930,521 to Rp 1,858,689.20 (30.61% increase). The income of second pattern also increasea 5.49% compared before reallocation. Total cost for one farming process of the first and second pattern is Rp 5.458,376.70 and Rp 5,484,635.70, respectively. After optimization, total cost can be reduced Rp 1,198,587.34 and Rp 550,102 for the first and second pattern, respectively. Farmer’s problems in applying optimized farming pattern are capital and farm area limitation, and price fluctuation for both input and output.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine and to compare farm income and farm profit of some focal paddy varieties (Siam Rukut, Siam Mutiara and Siam unus)and to determine their feasibilities. The results showed that total cost for each variety was Rp 7,228,544 ha' Siam Rukut, RD 7,475,117 ha' Siam Mutiara, and Rp 6,881,529 ha' Siam Unus. Moreover, total revenue for each variety was Rp 14,340,934 ha' Siam Rukut, Rp 16,405,757 ha' Siam Mutiara, and Rp 14,956,400 ha' Siam Unus. Then, farm income was Rp 12,571,854 ha' Siam Rukut, Rp 14,526,345 ha' Siam Mutiara, and Rp 13,171,639 ha' Siam Unus, and farm profit was Rp 7,112,389 ha' Siam Rukut, Rp 8,930,640 ha' Siam Mutiara, and Rp 8,074,870 ha' Siam Unus. Statistically, all these three varieties had the same capacity in generati ng farm income. However, in term of money, Siam Mutiara generated the highest income compared to the others. In addition, paddy farm of these three varieties was feasible, in which Siam Mutiara variety had the highest RCR.

The study is purposed to identify maize farming technique, to analize factors influence maize yield, and to identify farmer’s problem in Kecamatan Batu Ampar, Kabupaten Tanah Laut. Cobb-Douglas production function was used to analyze the effects of inputs on maize yield, elasticities and return to scale. The study summarize that land area, labor, seed, organic fertilizer, N fertilizer, Phonska efrtilizer and herbicide simultaneously affect the yield on 95% confidence level. Partially, organic and Phonska fertilizer which are not significantly affect the yield. Furthermore, only land area, labor, phonska and organic fertilizer which has positive elasticity. Abstract

The study is aimed to describe the condition of farmers livelihood before and after land conversion as well as knowing its socio-economic impact. It is a qualitative study, where respondents were purposively selected by using snowball sampling. The results show that the change of farmers’ income before and after land conversion is varied – increase, decrease or no change. Housing and assets ownership has not changed much both before and after the conversion. Health condition is also relatively stable. Land conversion has social and economic impacts as farmers should shift and diversificate their livelihoods on agriculture and non-agriculture sector. The change on household income is depending on the type of new business established. Land conversion also has environmental effect since land conversion for residential area is followed by river backfill which create water flow disturbance.
