Abstract

Climate change has a real impact on yields, seasonal shifts, cropping patterns of citrus siam banjar plantations (Citrus suhuensis) on tidal land. This research aims to analyze the relationship of the cropping patterns of surjan systems and climate extremes, as an effort to overcome climate change. The research was conducted in Batola in 2020 using written and oral survey methods. Data was extracted from farmers and related institutions. The respondents consisted of 45 men and 45 women. On each sub-district, 2 villages were surveyed according to tidal land type, namely Marabahan district (SP1 and SP2) type C, Mandastana subdistrict (Karang Indah and Karang Bunga) type B, and Cerbon district (Simpang Nungki and Kambat River) type A. The results showed that the chance of El-Niño was around 16.7-22.7%, while La-Niña reached 40%. The total extreme event was 67.8% of La-Niña side by side with El-Niño 15 times and generally El-Niño precedes La-Niña by about 40%. The total extreme event reached 62.7%. The productivity of citrus observations in 2015-2019 was 1.274 ton/ha and during El-Niño yields decreased by 0.05 ton/ha. Crops damaged by El-Niño in 20152016 were -2% of the area of 6,825.03 ha. More than 90% of farmers during extreme events applied a pattern of superior local-rice oranges-rice to tabukan and oranges-vegetables on mounds. Cropping patterns on tidal tidal land show a high level of resistance to climate change because they have not changed much for decades in both normal, dry, and wet climatic conditions. Keywords: El-Niño, extreme climate, La-Niña, siam banjar oranges, tidal land type A, B dan C

Abstract

The Siamese orange is a superior commodity because it has economic value and is specific to the characteristics of the tidal swamp agroecosystems. Uncertainty triggered by natural conditions and the market causes farmers to lose money, fail to harvest, and suffer, thus affecting the sustainability of their farming business. The final result of the farmer's business describes the magnitude of the Impact felt by the farmer and the farmer's ability to support the losses that can be experienced. This assessment aims to have a comprehensive CVA (Climate Vulnerability Assessment) for the primary commodities in 3 sub-districts in Batola (Carbon, Mandasatana, and Marabahan) and translate the results of activities with recommendations for these various districts.  The research was conducted using survey methods, direct observations in the field, Focus Group Discussions, and in-depth interviews with respondents, namely farmers, traders, as well as community leaders and related agencies (Department of Food Crops and Horticulture (DTPH) and District Agricultural Extension Center) totaling 100 people. The DTPH of Batola Regency also collected secondary data. The data collected were analyzed descriptively. In the district of Cerbon (type A), the highest choice is citrus, then seasonal and mixed crops. The major decisions in the Mandastana sub-district (type B) are monoculture oranges, then seasonal crops, diverse crops, and Galam forest plants. In the Marabahan sub-district (type C), apart from citrus, oil palm and rubber have been developed as industrial support plants

Abstract

The ecological stability of our world and human well-being are dependent on biodiversity, but in the age of climate change, biodiversity faces hitherto unheard-of difficulties. This study investigates the intricate interactions between the preservation of biodiversity and the effects of climate change in Indonesia's rural Sukabumi District. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes field observations, interviews, surveys, and secondary data analysis, the study looks into the drivers of biodiversity loss as well as the state of biodiversity now and the effects of climate change on regional ecosystems. The findings show the incredible biodiversity of Sukabumi District, including its healthy coral reefs and terrestrial rainforests, as well as the noticeable effects of climate change, such as altered species behavior and coastal erosion. Unsustainable land-use practices and climate-related variables are identified as major contributors to the decline of biodiversity. Community-led conservation efforts provide success stories, but to protect biodiversity and improve climate resilience, strong policy proposals are required. The suggested recommendations place a strong emphasis on multi-stakeholder collaboration, conservation education, climate resilience, sustainable land-use practices, and community engagement. Sukabumi District is highlighted in the report as a microcosm of the problems facing biodiversity conservation worldwide, and it calls for swift and coordinated action to save nature's final line of defense against climate disaster.

Abstract

Abstract Agriculture is an important sector for Indonesia. Because around 30% of the population works in the agricultural industry. Currently, agricultural conditions in Indonesia are facing challenges due to climate anomalies. Unpredictable climate changes, shorter growing seasons, an increase in pests and diseases and these conditions have an impact on increasing production costs while yields are not optimal. Climate change is one of the obstacles in increasing plant productivity. The negative impacts of extreme global climate change include the degradation of land and water resources, damage to agricultural and irrigation infrastructure, the emergence of floods and droughts, and increased attacks by pests and plant diseases. Therefore, farmers need knowledge and farming skills that are adaptive to climate change or what is known as Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA). Climate Smart Agriculture is a useful approach to guide the actions needed to transform and reorient agricultural systems to effectively support development and ensure food security in conditions of climate change. CSA technology focuses on climate resilience and food security with the main objectives being: 1.) Increasing agricultural productivity and income in a sustainable manner, 2.) Adapting and building food security to climate change, 3.) Reducing and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions (Mitigation), 4.) Optimizing the use of various resources. So it is hoped that optimal results will be obtained in the agricultural sector. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The researchers use research data in the form of secondary data obtained from a number of credible sources such as scientific articles, books and a number of other sources that are credible and commonly used in research. These data were analyzed using analytical tools with stages of data collection, data selection, data reduction and drawing conclusions.
