Abstract

Aging is a phase of life that is closely associated with physical, psychological, and social changes, which may increase vulnerability to stress among older adults. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support and stress levels among elderly individuals living in social care institutions. A quantitative descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was applied. The population consisted of 204 elderly residents, with 132 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Social support was measured using a questionnaire based on House’s theory, while stress levels were assessed using the DASS-Stress instrument. Data were analyzed using Somers’ d test. The results showed that most respondents had moderate social support and experienced severe stress. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between social support and stress levels (p = 0.008), although the strength of the correlation was weak. These findings indicate that social support is related to stress among the elderly, but it is not the sole determinant influencing psychological conditions. Other factors such as physical health, chronic illness, and individual coping capacity may play a more dominant role. Therefore, comprehensive and integrated interventions are needed to improve the psychological well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals in social care institutions..

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between student engagement and cyberslacking behavior by considering the mediating role of academic boredom among Gen Z university students. As digital technologies become increasingly embedded in learning environments, understanding how psychological factors influence students’ online distractions is essential. Using a quantitative approach and path analysis, the findings show that student engagement significantly reduces academic boredom, while academic boredom significantly increases cyberslacking behavior. Furthermore, student engagement directly and indirectly influences cyberslacking, with academic boredom acting as a partial mediator. These results highlight that low engagement does not only predict higher disengagement behaviors but also triggers psychological states specifically academic boredom that drive students to divert attention to non-academic digital activities during class. This study demonstrates that cyberslacking is not merely a technological issue but also a reflection of the internal learning experiences of Gen Z students. The implications emphasize the need for learning designs that are interactive, meaningful, and capable of sustaining engagement to minimize digital distractions.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that remains a major public health problem in Indonesia. The transmission of pulmonary TB is influenced not only by biological factors but also by behavioral factors, particularly knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors. Poor knowledge, unfavorable attitudes, and inadequate preventive behaviors may increase the risk of pulmonary TB transmission. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, preventive behaviors, and the incidence of pulmonary TB in the working area of Kedaton Primary Health Center, Bandar Lampung. This study was an observational analytic study with a case–control design conducted from October to November 2025. A total of 202 respondents were included, consisting of 101 pulmonary TB cases and 101 non-TB controls, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The results showed a significant association between knowledge and the incidence of pulmonary TB (p = 0.010; OR = 2.214; 95% CI = 1.245–3.935) as well as between preventive behaviors and the incidence of pulmonary TB (p = 0.030; OR = 2.076; 95% CI = 1.114–3.867). Attitudes were not significantly associated with the incidence of pulmonary TB (p = 0.177; OR = 1.573; 95% CI = 0.869–2.846). Knowledge and preventive behaviors were associated with the incidence of pulmonary TB, whereas attitudes were not significantly associated.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial potential of the n-hexane fraction of Keji Besi leaves (Hemigraphis repanda L.) against Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus, as well as to determine its Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Keji Besi leaves were extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol, followed by liquid–liquid fractionation with n-hexane. The antibacterial activity was assessed using the disc diffusion method, while MIC values were determined using the broth dilution method. Phytochemical screening revealed that the n-hexane fraction predominantly contained steroid and triterpenoid compounds. The disc diffusion assay showed that the n-hexane fraction exhibited stronger inhibitory activity against B. cereus than E. coli, with the largest inhibition zone observed at an 80% concentration. MIC determination indicated that the MIC value for B. cereus was 40% (w/v), whereas E. coli required a higher concentration of 80% (w/v) to inhibit bacterial growth. These findings suggest that the n-hexane fraction of Keji Besi leaves demonstrates selective antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria. Therefore, this fraction has promising potential to be developed as a natural antibacterial agent, especially for infections caused by Gram-positive pathogens.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between independence and self-adjustment among migrant students of the Faculty of Health, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (UNISSULA), Semarang. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 200 migrant students selected through total sampling from a population of 719 students. Two standardized questionnaires measuring independence and self-adjustment were administered online and had passed validity and reliability testing. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results indicate a positive and significant relationship between independence and self-adjustment (r = 0.502; p < 0.001), showing that higher levels of independence are consistently associated with better adjustment to academic and social environments. Independence contributes to emotional regulation, identity development, social integration, and professional readiness among students. These findings highlight the strategic role of independence as a core psychological resource in supporting successful adaptation during the transition to higher education. The study recommends strengthening independence through orientation programs, counseling services, and student development policies to enhance well-being, resilience, and academic success among migrant students.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between hedonistic lifestyle tendencies and self-esteem among students at the Faculty of Nursing, Sultan Agung Islamic University in Semarang. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study analyzed data from 115 respondents to determine the strength and significance of the association between the two variables. The findings demonstrate a significant and strong positive correlation (p = 0.000; r = 0.764), indicating that students with higher hedonistic tendencies tend to report higher levels of self-esteem. This pattern suggests that a considerable portion of students develop a sense of self-worth based on external reinforcement such as social acceptance, peer approval, and recognition from their environment. Although such externally driven self-esteem may enhance confidence temporarily, it may also be unstable because it relies heavily on fluctuating social dynamics. To foster healthier psychological development, students are encouraged to cultivate internal sources of self-worth, while educational institutions are advised to provide programs on healthy lifestyle management, financial literacy, and mental health support. Future researchers are recommended to incorporate longitudinal approaches and include additional variables such as digital platform usage, family support, and peer influence to broaden the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

Among workers in East Java using electronic money, self-control appears linked to how much they spend. With digital payments growing fast, buying things takes less effort this ease might weaken restraint. A total of 259 individuals took part, chosen deliberately based on their use of e-payments. Instead of narratives or interviews, numbers shaped the findings here. Not random chance but careful selection guided who was included. What drives spending? One clue lies in how people manage impulses when tapping a phone to pay. Information came from surveys on self-regulation, daily habits, and spending patterns. Analysis shows people with stronger self-discipline tend to spend less impulsively when using electronic money. Those who place more value on lifestyle image show greater tendencies to engage in high consumption. Results suggest how personal habits shape financial choices in modern payment environments. What one prioritizes day to day may influence their impulse to buy just as much as willpower does.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have brought about major changes in the behavior patterns and ways of thinking of the younger generation, including Generation Alpha, who live in a fully digital environment. Uncontrolled use of gadgets can affect children's cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. This study analyzes the relationship between gadget use and intelligence levels among Generation Alpha at MTs Miftahussalam Demak. This study uses a quantitative correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consists of 200 students, and the sample consists of 66 Generation Alpha students selected using purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is a closed questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with Spearman's rank correlation test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents used gadgets for a short time (<2 hours per day) (47%), while the majority had good (54.5%), fair (37.9%), and poor (7.6%) intelligence levels. Bivariate analysis showed a strong and significant relationship between gadget use and intelligence level (r = -0.662; p = 0.000 < 0.05). A negative correlation means that the higher the intensity of gadget use, the lower the students' intelligence level.

Abstract

Smartphone use among students has increased significantly alongside the rapid advancement of digital technology. High levels of smartphone use can shift physical activity toward sedentary behavior, thereby influencing students’ exercise habits and overall healthy lifestyle. The imbalance between high smartphone use and declining physical activity among adolescents has raised concerns about their health. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between smartphone use and physical activity among students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 59 respondents selected through a random sampling technique. Data were collected using a smartphone use questionnaire and a physical activity questionnaire. The relationship between variables was analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The analysis revealed a Spearman correlation coefficient of r = 0.281 with a significance value of p = 0.031 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship between smartphone use and physical activity, although the correlation strength is categorized as weak. The positive direction of the relationship suggests that productive smartphone use, such as through fitness applications, may help increase physical activity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of social media use among final-year students who are in the process of writing their final projects. Social media use is understood as an individual's behavior pattern in utilizing social media to fulfill academic and psychological needs, including social interaction, information seeking, entertainment, leisure activities, expression of opinions, and communication utility. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The research subjects are final year students selected using sampling techniques in accordance with research criteria. Data collection was carried out using a social media use scale that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis uses descriptive statistics to describe the level of use, distribution based on respondent characteristics, platform preferences, and general patterns of social media use. The results of the study indicate that the level of social media use is in the moderate category, which shows routine but not excessive use. Use is relatively uniform based on age and gender and is dominated by visual and fast communication platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, X, and YouTube. Social media is used as a source of academic information, a means of communication, entertainment, and emotional regulation during academic stress.
