Abstract

The rapid flux of and the transformations in time marked by technological advances and modernization have a significant impact on the education system, including Islamic education. In the midst of the current of modernity, theological values derived from the Qur'an and Hadith are often marginalized, though both play a fundamental role in shaping learners' character and integrity. This study aimed to analyze the urgency of integrating Islamic theological values in modern education and to identify relevant approaches based on Qur'anic and Hadith perspectives. This study employed a qualitative method with a library research approach and thematic analysis of Qur'anic verses and hadiths related to education, theological values, and the challenges of modernization. The results of the study indicated that theological values such as monotheism, morality, and social responsibility provide strong spiritual resilience in facing moral crises and the decadence of value due to modernization. The integration of these values in the curriculum and practice of Islamic education not only strengthens the foundation of faith, but also cultivates individuals who are religious, critical, and adaptive. The novelty of this study lay in the affirmation of the need for a harmonious synthesis between theological teachings and the demands of modernity in contemporary Islamic education. The implication is that educational policymakers and practitioners must redesign a pedagogical approach that is responsive to the times without losing its theological roots.

Abstract

Qawm is one of the terms used in the Qur’an to refer to a group of people. Using a qualitative study with an analytical descriptive approach based on library research, this study explored the meaning of the word qawm in the Qur’an through the semantic approach of Toshihiko Izutsu. The aimed of this study was to uncover the true meaning of qawm and formulate a final conclusion regarding the weltanschauung or worldview associated with the term. The semantic analysis based on Izutsu’s method involves several steps: identifying the key term, determining its basic and relational meanings, revealing its historical development, and finally describing the weltanschauung of qawm in the Qur’anic context. The findings showed that in the Qur’an, qawm does not merely signify a group based on ethnicity or culture, but rather a community evaluated through their attitude toward divine teachings. The term encompasses both men and women who live together as a group. The Qur’an classifies qawm into two categories: positive characters—those who believe in and obey Allah; and negative characters —those who reject His teachings and ultimately face destruction. This view indicated that the Qur’an does not judge people based on their origins, but on their faith and moral character. Thus, the concept of qawm reflects the Qur’anic worldview that highlights the importance of spiritual and ethical values in shaping both individual and collective identity.

Abstract

The research aims to find out whether the concept of kafa’ah in the book of Fathul Mu’in is still relevant for the dynamic Mayangan community. This research focuses on the application of the concept of kafa’ah can maintain the integrity of the household of the Mayangan community in Jember. This research method uses a phenomenological approach to understand the experience of the Mayangan community in applying Zainuddin's concept of kafa’ah. The findings show that: first, the majority of the Mayangan community applies the concept of kafa’ah in the book Fathul Mu’in. Some interpret kafa’ah as equality in education, religion, and descent. Some understand compatibility in thinking. Second, there are two categories of people's understanding of the concept of kafa’ah: The first category consists of people who actively recite and study the book of Fathul Mu’in, and the second category is people who understand through informal oral delivery. The five criteria of kafa’ah in the book of Fathul Mu’in are very relevant for the people of Mayangan who have experienced a change in religious mindset to materialism. Therefore, it is morally necessary to place religious intelligence and morals as a priority for choosing a life partner for the integrity of the household and for building a healthy civilization.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the role of IDE Inklusi in strengthening the capacity of disabled people and to analyze the supporting factors for the transformation of ability that changes the paradigm from being mere recipients of assistance to an independent subject. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews with IDE Inclusion administrators and members who have become economically independent. The results show that IDE Inclusion succeeded in becoming a successful model of ability transformation by prioritizing Islamic values, as well as revealing that inclusivity requires changes in the role of disabled community in society, beyond mere social awareness. The novelty of this research lies in proving that Islamic values (productive zakat and ukhuwah) can form the foundation of social enterprise operations that are fully managed by persons with disabilities.  The implications of the research serve as a reference for Islamic value-based empowerment movements, contribute to the enrichment of the concept of ability transformation through the integration of religious values, and offer recommendations for the governments and religious institutions to adopt similar models.

Abstract

Assertiveness in Islamic preaching is a crucial aspect in preserving the purity of religious principles and moral boundaries, particularly in the face of modern challenges that emphasize inclusivity. This study aims to analyze the rhetorical strategies employed by Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani in delivering Sufi-oriented sermons that combine firmness with spiritual depth. Using a qualitative method with a rhetorical discourse analysis approach, this research draws on sermon texts and historical literature as primary data sources. The findings reveal that Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani incorporates the classical rhetorical elements of ethos, pathos, and logos in his preaching: ethos to establish credibility, pathos to evoke emotional responses from the audience, and logos through arguments grounded in the Qur'an and Hadith. His rhetoric demonstrates a balance between sharp criticism of moral deviations—particularly among scholars and rulers—and compassionate counsel to sinners, emphasizing repentance and sincerity. The Sufi dimension is evident in his use of symbolic language and narratives of spiritual experiences that encourage deep reflection and connect religious teachings with social well-being. These findings indicate that Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani’s rhetorical approach remains relevant for contemporary Islamic preaching, particularly in striking a balance between moral assertiveness and empathetic communication. Further research is recommended to explore the impact of this approach in modern contexts and to compare it with other Sufi figures.

Abstract

This study explores the semantic structure of war-related language in the Summary of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and Their Additional Protocols, emphasizing the importance of understanding how international humanitarian values are embedded in legal discourse. This study aims to identify the lexical fields associated with war and analyze how these fields reflect the Geneva Conventions’ core principles protection, legality, and humanitarianism. Using a descriptive qualitative method combined with document analysis and grounded in lexical field theory, this study categorizes 50 war-related terms into seven thematic fields: protection of individuals, legal and compliance terms, humanitarian actions, conflict and warfare, symbols and emblems, rights and protection, and specific protection. The findings show that each lexical group encapsulates distinct humanitarian and legal imperatives, illustrating how language functions as a normative force in international law. The novelty of this study lies in its application of semantic analysis to a foundational legal text, providing new linguistic insights into the codification of war ethics. This research not only contributes to semantic and legal linguistics but also holds policy implications by reinforcing the necessity for precise and human-centered language in legal instruments to enhance compliance and protection in armed conflict. Future policymaking could benefit from linguistic scrutiny of international law texts to ensure clarity, empathy, and enforceability in humanitarian protections.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate Patterns, Factors, and Managerial Implications on Muzakki Loyalty to identify what research is needed in the future. In addition, it also explores the relationship model between how the current Muzakki Loyalty publication trend is and how the results of the systematic literature review are the direction of future research. The design/methodology/approach in this study uses a systematic literature review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) analysis by reviewing articles published in 2014 to 2023. The PRISMA procedure involves several stages, including identification, screening, eligibility, analysis and conclusions based on the findings. The results of the study found that muzakki loyalty to zakat institutions is greatly influenced by various key factors, including transparency, accountability, service quality, customer relationship management (CRM), institutional image, and religiosity values. Transparency and accountability in the management of zakat funds provide trust to muzakki, ensuring that the funds they donate are managed in a trustworthy manner and in accordance with sharia principles. Responsive and professional service quality increases muzakki satisfaction, making them more emotionally attached to zakat institutions. In addition, the implementation of CRM and the positive image of the institution, as seen in BAZNAS and Lazizmu, creates a deeper personal relationship with muzakki, increasing their trust and commitment. Religious values also strengthen loyalty, especially when zakat institutions demonstrate compliance with Islamic principles in governance and services. By integrating these elements, zakat institutions can build long-term loyalty from muzakki, ensuring continued support in the management and distribution of zakat.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the learning system, including at the madrasah ibtidaiyah (MI) level. The fiqh learning that was originally carried out face-to-face was transferred to online through WhatsApp media. This study aims to determine the effect of online learning on students' fiqh learning motivation at MI DDI Tani Aman Loa Janan Ilir Samarinda. The background of this study is the change in learning patterns due to the Covid-19 pandemic which requires students to learn online, while learning motivation is an important factor in learning success. The method used is quantitative with product moment correlation technique and t test. The research sample amounted to 78 students selected through total sampling technique. The instrument in the form of a questionnaire was distributed through Google Form, and the data was analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between online learning and fiqh learning motivation with a correlation value of r = 0.622 and a value of t_hitung = 8.830> t_table = 1.664. The contribution of online learning to learning motivation is 38.7%. This result is reinforced by interview data with teachers which shows that effective online teaching strategies, such as the use of videos, assignments, and verbal motivation, support students' enthusiasm for learning. Thus, it can be concluded that online learning has a positive influence on students' fiqh learning motivation. This study offers a new perspective by focusing on fiqh learning at the elementary madrasah level using WhatsApp as the primary medium. The findings imply the need for teachers to optimize simple digital tools to maintain student motivation in religious education contexts.
