Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of public toilets as a destination image in the tourist attraction of Bara Beach in Bulukumba Regency. This study applies a qualitative method on the grounds that this qualitative research is appropriate to be used in determining real conditions in the field by utilizing descriptive methods. In the new normal era like today, every tourist attraction must be able to ensure that health protocols are still strictly and consistently implemented. One of them is the implementation of sanitation in public toilets in tourist attractions, including at Bara Beach, because this is considered to be able to make tourists who use the public toilet feel safe and comfortable. Bara Beach is one of the mainstay marine tourism attractions of South Sulawesi province, especially Bulukumba Regency. Throughout the year this beach is visited by many tourists, this is due to the extraordinary potential it has in the form of a very fine stretch of white sand and a very beautiful beach area, including the beauty of the sunset when the day is approaching nightfall. For this reason, the availability of decent and standard public toilets is very necessary, the completeness of public toilet facilities in Bara Beach must of course be in accordance with the standards. And in terms of cleanliness, it is also very necessary to maintain it well, considering that the public toilet will be used by visitors or tourists, both domestic and foreign tourists. The availability of public toilets in Bara beach destinations will certainly not necessarily be a service solution for one of the basic needs of tourists, but what is no less important in this case is how to manage it. The management of public toilets must be done properly so that the needs of tourists for clean, comfortable and safe public toilets are met, but in addition to maintaining the cleanliness of public toilets can be maintained properly, the participation of users in this case tourists is also very much needed. For this reason, through this study, the researcher intends to further study "Public toilets as an image of destinations (study on Bara beach in Bulukumba Regency)".

Abstract

Delta Lakkang, located in the heart of Makassar City, is an “urban village” surrounded by rivers that offers natural, cultural, and historical tourism potential. Attractions such as delta landscapes, traditional fishing and farming practices, colonial heritage sites, and local culinary experiences highlight its uniqueness. However, tourism development and marketing efforts remain sporadic, relying mostly on local initiatives without an integrated strategy. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze tourism marketing in Delta Lakkang. Data were collected through field observations using a tourism attraction checklist, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and secondary sources from scientific publications and digital media. The qualitative design was chosen to capture the perspectives, experiences, and dynamics among various actors involved in tourism promotion and development. The results indicate major gaps in tourism marketing, including the absence of a master plan, limited use of digital promotion channels, unclear market segmentation, weak branding, and insufficient stakeholder coordination. Key barriers include limited funding, lack of human resource capacity, and minimal institutional support. To overcome these challenges, the study suggests formulating a comprehensive marketing strategy, strengthening destination branding, providing digital marketing training for local tourism groups (Pokdarwis), and enhancing collaboration among government, community, and private stakeholders. Positioned within the framework of urban maritime tourism, Delta Lakkang has strong potential to serve as an alternative destination in Makassar, enriching maritime tourism experiences beyond beaches and islands. Strengthening digital promotion and empowering local communities are considered crucial strategies for developing Delta Lakkang into a sustainable urban maritime tourism destination.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) identify the tourism potential and components found in Wakatobi Regency, and 2) design a travel pattern that can serve as a reference for regional tourism development. A qualitative research method with a descriptive approach was employed, using data collection techniques such as observation and interviews. The findings indicate that the existence of the 5A+3S components (Accessibility, Accommodation, Attraction, Amenities, Activities, as well as Security, Safety, and Sanitation) has supported tourism development in Wakatobi. However, several challenges remain, including limited accessibility, inadequate supporting facilities, and a shortage of professional instructors in marine tourism activities. The proposed travel pattern is divided into five main clusters: single point, base site, stop over, chaining loop, and complex neighbourhood, with durations ranging from half-day and full-day trips to two-day-one-night and eight-day-four-night itineraries. This travel pattern is designed to accommodate tourist needs and preferences while serving as a guide for the Tourism Office and travel business operators in developing effective and competitive tour packages.

Abstract

Mangrove forests, with their unique ecological characteristics and biodiversity, hold significant potential for tourism development through activities such as tracking, flora and fauna observation, and educational tours. In Karimunjawa, a mangrove tracking attraction is located on Kemujan Island. The application of Sapta Pesona principles plays a crucial role in shaping visitor experiences, influencing tourist arrivals, and contributing to the welfare of local communities engaged in tourism. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Sapta Pesona in the Mangrove Tracking attraction. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected through observation and interviews, and subsequently analyzed using a Likert-scale scoring technique. Findings indicate that the average scores for each Sapta Pesona element are as follows: safety (2.7/less), orderliness (3.5/sufficient), cleanliness (2.6/less), coolness (3.7/sufficient), beauty (3.3/sufficient), friendliness (2.7/less), and memorability (1.0/very poor). The overall average score of 2.7 falls within the “less” category. These results highlight the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to strengthen Sapta Pesona implementation, ensure environmental sustainability, and foster community engagement in delivering quality tourism experiences in the Mangrove Tracking area in Karimunjawa Island

Abstract

MICE has great potential as a driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, but the study is still limited. In fact, MICE is not just a tourism subsector, but a node of interaction between industries and regions. This study aims to measure the economic contribution of MICE domestic tourists to the Indonesian economy, both in terms of output, income, employment, and added value, as well as to evaluate sectoral linkages and spillover effects between regions. The methodology used is the Interregional Input-Output (IRIO) model, which tracks economic impacts sectorally and spatially. MICE travelers' spending is converted into a final demand vector, which is then used to calculate changes in output, income, labor, and added value at the provincial and sector levels. The results show that domestic MICE spending generated additional output of IDR 219.10 trillion, revenue of IDR 44.77 trillion, creation of 1.36 million jobs, and added value of IDR 122.75 trillion. The largest sectoral impact was felt in the accommodation, trade, land transportation, and food and beverage sectors. Spatially, provinces such as DKI Jakarta, East Java, and Bali received the greatest absolute benefits, while S.R. Yogyakarta, NTB, and Southeast Sulawesi recorded the highest percentage growth. These findings affirm the role of MICE as a lever for the national economy and a tool for regional equity. In conclusion, the MICE sector has demonstrated its role not only as a driver of economic growth but also as a catalyst for deeper regional economic integration. Recommendations include promoting policies that the impact of MICE is not only temporary, but also the foundation for inclusive and sustainable long-term economic growth.

Abstract

This study explores English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers’ perception of the relevance of Industry-Based Learning (IBL) in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within the sustainable hospitality context. The background of this inquiry lies in the need to ensure that English instruction in tourism polytechnics not only delivers theoretical knowledge but also equips students with practical communicative competence required in professional hospitality settings. Employing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six informants, including five EFL lecturers from Makassar and Lombok Tourism Polytechnics and one hospitality industry representative. Thematic analysis was applied to identify recurring themes and patterns across the data. Findings reveal that EFL lecturers consistently perceive IBL as a highly relevant and effective pedagogical model for ESP. They emphasized that IBL bridges the gap between classroom-based instruction and authentic workplace communication, providing students with opportunities to internalize language use through real tasks such as interacting with international guests, writing reservation emails, and producing promotional content. Lecturers also highlighted that IBL enhances students’ motivation, confidence, and professional attitudes, which are essential for employability in the global hospitality industry. Importantly, the integration of sustainability-oriented tasks—such as explaining eco-friendly hotel policies—further strengthens the contextual relevance of ESP instruction by aligning linguistic learning with industry transformation. This research concludes that IBL holds significant relevance for ESP in sustainable hospitality, not only for improving linguistic competence but also for nurturing professional readiness and sustainability awareness. The findings contribute to theoretical discussions on experiential learning and task-based pedagogy, while offering practical insights for curriculum design in hospitality education.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the logistics management of Expo REI 2025 organized by PT. Debindo Mega Promo Makassar, focusing on planning, procurement, handling, and evaluation stages. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation with key stakeholders such as project managers, logistics teams, and exhibitors. The results show that logistics management was carried out systematically through four stages. Planning emphasized scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with vendors. Procurement involved selection and contracting of suppliers to provide event needs, although incomplete specifications occasionally caused delays. Handling encountered challenges such as limited loading dock capacity, restricted time due to mall operations, and booth area violations by exhibitors. Solutions included staggered loading schedules, enhanced signage, and stronger coordination. Evaluation indicated improved efficiency compared to previous years, though communication gaps remained an issue. The research concludes that effective logistics management is crucial for the success of exhibitions. Recommendations include developing more detailed MoUs with vendors and exhibitors, improving communication during technical briefings, and adopting innovative approaches to logistics planning for future events
