Abstract

The partners in this Community Partnership Program are elementary schools consisting of students, teachers, staff, and parents at GMIM 30 Elementary School in Sario Tumpaan Subdistrict, Sario District. The partner, GMIM 30 Sario Tumpaan Elementary School, as the target audience of the PKM program, represents a group of young community members who are the intended beneficiaries. Understanding the concepts and implementation of food security and food availability requires educational efforts from an early age, including through the application of the “love to plant” concept for elementary school students — the next generation who will face various challenges related to environmental sustainability and food security. By introducing them to planting activities early on, they will better understand how food is produced, the importance of protecting the environment, and develop an awareness to live healthily and independently.  The problem is that implementing education to raise early awareness of planting among school children and practicing vegetable gardening at school faces several challenges, namely the absence of human resources at the school who can serve as educational facilitators and provide technical assistance in creating the garden. Additionally, students and teachers need to be motivated to participate in these activities so that the program can be carried out in accordance with its goals of promoting food security starting from elementary school.  The solution to be implemented at the elementary school is collaboration with lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture at Sam Ratulangi University to provide education to the students so that from an early age they can be taught about food security and the love of planting. In addition, there will be hands-on practice in planting vegetables and creating a vegetable garden at the school to encourage students to engage and develop an interest in agriculture as a food provider in support of the Food Security program.

Abstract

Waste is still a serious problem that cannot be completely addressed, especially in big cities. The increase in the amount of waste will continue to increase in line with the increase in people's welfare and lifestyle. Ecoenzymes are useful multipurpose liquids that can be made from organic waste resulting from household activities. Community involvement in waste management is still lacking due to the lack of training on processing organic waste into ecoenzymes, and processing ecoenzymes into derivative products in the form of soap. The method used in this PKM is training and mentoring which consists of two stages, namely the practice of making ecoenzymes and the next stage the practice of making soap from ecoenzymes. The results of the evaluation carried out after training by the PKM Team showed that the partner group members were able to absorb the knowledge and information provided so that they were able to make ecoenzymes from organic materials which are household waste, and then the ecoenzymes that had been harvested (after 3 months of fermentation) could be processed into soap products. solid that can be used for family needs. This shows that the PKM activity of training on techniques for making ecoenzyme derived products has succeeded in increasing the knowledge and skills of partner groups in making ecoenzymes and soap derivative products, which are also an alternative for handling organic waste in the environment.

Abstract

The rapid spread of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) enables resource constrained businesses to leapfrog traditional development stages. However, current literature predominantly focuses on digital literacy and adoption intentions, often overlooking the strategic utilization of AI in peripheral tourism economies. This study aims to explore how micro enterprises in Bunaken, North Sulawesi, leverage AI tools to build dynamic capabilities beyond basic technical skills. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, this study investigates the lived experiences of 12 tourism based micro entrepreneurs. Data were collected through in depth semi structured interviews and digital observations. The study utilizes the Dynamic Capabilities View (DCV), specifically sensing, seizing, and transforming as the theoretical lens to analyze how participants integrate tools like ChatGPT and Gemini into their daily operations. The results reveal that AI readiness in this context is best characterized as "Pragmatic Bricolage" rather than formal technical proficiency. Participants exhibit a distinct dichotomy in tool usage: ChatGPT is leveraged for creative content generation and cultural translation (seizing capabilities), while Gemini is utilized for real time market intelligence and information verification (sensing capabilities). The study identifies that GenAI acts as a cost effective mechanism for "frugal innovation," effectively bridging the language and resource gaps inherent in the region, though usage is tempered by the need for "human in the loop" verification to mitigate AI hallucinations. This research contributes to the digital entrepreneurship literature by providing empirical evidence from an underrepresented archipelago context. It theoretically extends the DCV framework by proposing that in micro enterprises, dynamic capabilities can be constructed through accessible AI tools, shifting the focus from "digital literacy" to "AI enabled strategic agility".

Abstract

The utilization of local medicinal plants remains a common practice within households in coastal areas, including Minaesa Village in North Minahasa Regency. However, such practices are generally based on intergenerational experience rather than an adequate understanding of appropriate indications, limitations, and potential risks. This community service initiative aimed to empower the community through a community-based educational approach to enhance family health literacy in the rational and safe use of local medicinal plants. The implementation methods included initial observation and needs assessment, development of evidence-based educational materials tailored to the local context, and delivery of interactive counseling sessions combined with guided discussions. Evaluation was conducted qualitatively through participants’ active engagement and reflective responses. The findings indicated improved participants’ understanding of fundamental principles for the proper use of medicinal plants, enhanced ability to identify minor conditions that may be managed at the household level, and increased awareness of warning signs requiring medical referral. This approach effectively integrated traditional knowledge with modern health literacy principles, thereby strengthening family capacity to make safer and more responsible health decisions.

Abstract

Nature-based solutions (NBS) represent a paradigm shift in water resources management, leveraging ecosystem functions to address hydrological challenges while delivering co-benefits for biodiversity and human well-being. The objectives of this article are: (1) to elucidate the conceptual foundations and terminology of natural reservoir as NBS water storage system; (2) to describe the benefits and  functional mechanisms; and (3) to describe the implementation of natural reservoirs utilization. This systematic literature review examines water retention infrastructure functioning as natural reservoirs within the NBS framework, including constructed wetlands, retention ponds, floodplain restoration, and beaver dam analogues. Following PRISMA guidelines, we analyzed peer-reviewed publications (2014–2024) with DOI identifiers from Scopus-indexed journals to elucidate conceptual foundations, functional mechanisms, and implementation techniques. Results demonstrate that NBS water storage systems provide multifunctional benefits: flood peak attenuation (15–30% runoff reduction), groundwater recharge enhancement, water quality improvement through biogeochemical processes, and habitat creation. European implementations dominate the literature (68% of studies), particularly in Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia where landscape-based water retention measures have been integrated into river basin management. Notable implementations include the Püspökszilágy NWRM project (Hungary) eliminating flash floods while stabilizing groundwater, and extensive constructed wetland networks in China treating wastewater while providing 103.3 mm soil storage capacity in urban areas. Critical success factors include site-specific hydrological assessment, native vegetation selection, and adaptive management protocols. Challenges persist regarding long-term sedimentation management, climate resilience under extreme events, and standardized monitoring frameworks. This review establishes that natural reservoir as one of NBS water storage systems, when properly designed, deliver superior ecosystem service bundles compared to conventional gray infrastructure while enhancing landscape connectivity and climate adaptation capacity.
