Abstract

Economic resilience of fisher households remains a critical issue in coastal community development, particularly in areas characterized by resource uncertainty and income fluctuation. This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in strengthening the economic resilience of fisher households in a coastal village of Indramayu Regency, Indonesia. The research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving fisher households, community leaders, and fisher group representatives. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that fisher households in Indramayu experience high economic vulnerability due to strong dependence on capture fisheries and seasonal variability. Social capital, manifested through trust, social networks, and social norms, plays a significant role in enhancing household economic resilience. Trust facilitates cooperation and informal support mechanisms, social networks expand access to information and economic resources, while social norms provide community-based social protection. Fisher households with stronger social capital demonstrate greater adaptive capacity through income diversification and collective economic strategies. However, unequal access to social capital across households was also identified, indicating disparities within the community. This study concludes that strengthening social capital is a strategic approach to improving the economic resilience of fisher households. The findings highlight the importance of community-based, inclusive coastal development policies that reinforce local social networks and institutions.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a major driver of global socio-economic change while simultaneously generating new forms of social inequality within the digital economy. These inequalities extend beyond unequal access to digital technologies and encompass disparities in digital skills, usage, and the capacity of individuals and social groups to benefit from digital economic opportunities. This article aims to analyze social inequality in the digital economy through a multidimensional approach focusing on access, usage, digital skills, and social inclusion. The study employs a systematic literature review of reputable international academic journals addressing digital inequality and social inclusion. The findings indicate that digital inequality is closely intertwined with socioeconomic factors such as income, education, gender, and geographical location, thereby reinforcing social exclusion among marginalized groups. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that policies centered solely on infrastructure provision are insufficient to address structural digital inequalities. This study concludes that reducing social inequality in the digital economy requires holistic, context-sensitive, and justice-oriented policy interventions to foster sustainable digital inclusion.

Abstract

Social media has emerged as a digital public sphere that significantly influences the formation of public perceptions of government policies. Advances in communication technology enable two-way interaction between governments and citizens while accelerating the dissemination of information and opinions. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the role of social media in shaping public perceptions of government policies by examining communication patterns, public sentiment, and dynamics of digital political participation. This study employs a qualitative approach through a systematic literature review of reputable international and national scholarly articles related to social media, public opinion, and public policy. The findings indicate that social media functions as a strategic instrument for policy communication, a platform for articulating public aspirations, and a real-time public opinion monitoring tool. However, social media also presents serious challenges, including disinformation, polarization, opinion manipulation, and the creation of echo chambers that may undermine democratic quality. These findings highlight the importance of digital literacy, adaptive public communication governance, and ethical use of social media analytics within the public policy cycle. This article contributes theoretically and practically to the development of public policy and government communication studies in the digital era.

Abstract

The digital transformation of education in Indonesia has accelerated alongside national policies promoting educational digitalization and technology integration. However, this transformation has not consistently led to equitable educational outcomes and, in many cases, has reproduced existing social inequalities. This study aims to analyze how digital education transformation contributes to the reproduction of social inequality in Indonesia, particularly across regional, socioeconomic, and institutional dimensions. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research utilizes a systematic literature review and thematic analysis of 27 national and international scholarly articles. The findings reveal that disparities in technological access, digital literacy, infrastructure, and institutional capacity are key factors exacerbating educational inequality. Furthermore, uniform and context-insensitive digital education policies tend to marginalize vulnerable groups, especially those in rural and underdeveloped regions. This study concludes that Indonesia’s digital education transformation requires inclusive, context-sensitive, and adaptive policy frameworks to ensure that digitalization functions as a tool for educational equity rather than a mechanism for social reproduction of inequality.

Abstract

Sustainable development is often positioned as a normative solution to the multidimensional crises generated by the modern development paradigm. However, numerous studies in the humanities and social sciences argue that sustainable development is not merely a technocratic concept, but a social project embedded with values, interests, and power relations. This article aims to analyze sustainable development as a social project through a humanistic critique of the modern development paradigm. This study employs a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review of key works in the humanities, social philosophy, and sustainable development theory. The findings reveal that the modern development paradigm is largely reductionist, anthropocentric, and growth-oriented, thereby failing to address social inequality, ecological crises, and cultural diversity. Humanistic perspectives offer a more holistic alternative by emphasizing ethical, cultural, historical, and decolonial dimensions of sustainable development. In conclusion, sustainable development should be understood as a transformative social project that requires fundamental changes in values, institutions, and development practices rather than mere technical adjustments within modernity.
