Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate in depth how workload that exceeds capacity limits and psychological pressure in the workplace contribute to the phenomenon of extreme fatigue among crew members serving on the RORO XXX vessel, and to identify the adaptive strategies used by officers to manage work pressure in the maritime environment. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with five deck officers and participatory observation from March to April 2023, and data analysis referred to the interactive model. The exploratory results indicate that workload that is not visibly apparent has a positive correlation with increased psychological pressure, which ultimately triggers symptoms of burnout. The identified issues include quantitative and qualitative dimensions of workload exceeding individual capacity, shift work systems that disrupt biological rest rhythms, and insufficient recovery periods. The coping mechanisms applied by crew members include problem-solving efforts such as time management and team coordination, as well as emotion regulation efforts through relaxation and the use of social support. This study concludes that excessive workload and prolonged psychological pressure significantly influence the emergence of burnout, necessitating interventions in workload management along with strengthening individual capacity to cope with stress. The novelty of this research lies in its contextual exploration of burnout in the Indonesian maritime sector, which remains limited.

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of double burden and sources of stress among mothers employed in the formal sector in Indonesia. This qualitative case study involved six working mothers from three sectors, namely banking, education, and healthcare in Surabaya. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using an interactive model. The findings reveal that the double burden experienced is multidimensional, including physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects. Maternal guilt emerges as the most dominant source of stress, surpassing formal work pressure. Stress manifestations include physical disturbances such as insomnia, migraines, and chronic fatigue, emotional disturbances such as anxiety, irritability, and helplessness, and behavioral changes such as decreased performance and social withdrawal. Stress is exacerbated by unequal distribution of domestic tasks with partners, pressure from in-laws, and lack of structural support in the workplace. The study identifies context-specific findings in Indonesia, including the presence of invisible mental load as an unseen yet energy-depleting cognitive burden, pressure from in-laws as a source of stress in collectivist culture, and the phenomenon of digital ibuism where social media reinforces unrealistic motherhood standards. The study recommends the need for gender-responsive employment policies, increased social support from partners and families, and psychological interventions to help working mothers manage maternal guilt and adopt more realistic parenting standards.

Abstract

This study explores the digitalization dilemma of traditional markets from the perspective of Pasar Senen Jakarta traders. Amid national policy accelerating payment digitalization through QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard), traditional market traders face structural contradictions between the demands of technological adaptation and the sustainability of value-based traditional livelihoods. Using a qualitative approach with a single case study design, this study involved 17 purposively selected participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using a six-phase thematic analysis. The study found four main themes, including tension between efficiency and income uncertainty, payment system dualism as a survival strategy, digital literacy barriers and generational gaps, and social capital dynamics in digital adaptation. The novelty lies in revealing systemic betrayal in digitalization, where infrastructure designed for inclusion produces new forms of exclusion. Trader resistance is not merely a result of technological conservatism but a rational response to the uncertainty produced by the system itself. This study contributes to the development of innovation resistance theory and provides policy implications for more inclusive digitalization that prioritizes the interests of small-scale traders.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the subjective experiences of the digital literacy gap between senior warehouse staff and young drivers in using mobile barcode systems and to analyze how this gap contributes to verification errors in warehouse environments. This study employs a qualitative approach with an interpretative phenomenological design. Twelve participants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of six senior warehouse staff aged 47–55 years and six young drivers aged 22–28 years. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and document review, and analyzed using a seven-stage phenomenological analysis framework. The study identifies five main themes, including technological disorientation among senior staff reflected in confusion with new interfaces and difficulty distinguishing visual feedback, disparities in digital processing speed that create psychological pressure, cross-generational communication barriers due to differences in terminology and age hierarchy, failure of informal knowledge transfer caused by training methods that do not align with senior workers’ characteristics, and maladaptive coping strategies such as responsibility reduction and the use of dual manual-digital systems. This study contributes by shifting the focus from quantitative measurement of error rates to a phenomenological understanding of how the digital literacy gap is experienced by both groups and by identifying a positive feedback loop that exacerbates the gap in warehouse environments.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan mengembangkan teori substantif tentang bagaimana hambatan proses dan tata kelola dalam implementasi sistem otomasi gudang membentuk risiko operasional tersembunyi serta menganalisis implikasinya terhadap loyalitas profesional dan tata kelola perusahaan melalui analogi dengan hubungan antara pemegang saham minoritas dan mayoritas dalam korporasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan strategi grounded theory konstruktivis. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan 15 partisipan dari tiga lokasi pergudangan di Jawa Barat dan Banten, observasi lapangan, serta telaah dokumen. Analisis data dilakukan melalui prosedur tiga tahap pengkodean dengan metode constant comparative analysis. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegagalan tata kelola menciptakan kondisi yang analog dengan pelanggaran duty of loyalty dalam korporasi, di mana aktor organisasi bertindak sebagai instrumen dari tekanan teknologis tanpa mempertimbangkan kepentingan seluruh stakeholder. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi teoretis melalui pengembangan model Loop of Escalating Dysfunction serta perluasan kerangka Technology-Organization-Environment menjadi TOE-I dengan menambahkan dimensi interaksi.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the adaptation strategies developed by freight transportation companies in Banten Province in response to supply chain disruptions caused by the fuel price hike in September 2022. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design and involves six freight transportation companies selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings identify three main adaptation strategies, including cost-based operational efficiency through route optimization and preventive fleet maintenance, financial and relational adaptation through gradual tariff negotiation and customer base diversification, and collaborative strategies through inter-firm fleet sharing and the utilization of industry association roles. The novelty of this research lies in identifying horizontal collaboration practices as a specific adaptive capability in the context of land transportation in Indonesia, extending the vulnerability and capability factors framework. This study contributes to the development of supply chain resilience theory in the logistics sector of developing countries and provides practical recommendations for company management, industry associations, and policymakers.
