Abstract

Diagnostic assessment is important in evaluating learning to identify students' readiness, learning difficulties, and conceptual errors to maintain the quality of education. This study aims to analyze research trends on the theme of diagnostic assessment in Indonesian journals on educational evaluation and assessment during the period 2014 to 2025. This research employs a systematic review of articles published in educational evaluation and assessment journals indexed in SINTA. The results of this systematic review indicate that the primary focus of research in this field is the development and validation of diagnostic instruments, with a predominance of quantitative approaches and research and development methods. Research subjects primarily involve high school students, while studies involving elementary school students or educators remain limited. The use of qualitative and mixed methods is still rare. These findings indicate that there is still room for expanding the approaches and focus of diagnostic assessment research in Indonesia to generate a more comprehensive understanding that can support educational practices that are more responsive to students' needs. This study can serve as an initial reference for the development of future research and practices in diagnostic assessment.

Abstract

Tarekat is one of the means of spiritual education that was built as a treasure of Islamic da'wah. Tarekat teaches various methods and spiritual education that can lead humans to recognize the Creator and have a good personality. This study aims to determine the teachings and values of character education applied at the Ki Bagus Rahsa Foundation to educate a person to become a perfect human being. The approach method uses descriptive phenomenological model, data collection through observation, interview, and documentation. this research is expected to be able to present objective and authentic field data. The result of the research found that the existence of Tarekat Syattariyah gives a spiritual contribution to its followers and the surrounding community in controlling bad behavior, suppressing negative actions, and overcoming social problems by relying on noble character education values (tata, discipline, honest, hard work, humble, polite, patient, resignation, wara', etc.). Starting from spiritual cleansing before the baiat procession, then baiat, to mujahadah which is routinely carried out alone or together at the Mursyid's house. By using applied tariqah, every jama'ah can become a person with physical and spiritual quality in this modern era.

Abstract

Islamic education in Western countries serves as a strategic space for shaping the dual identities of Muslim students as faithful individuals and as citizens in democratic and multicultural societies. This study explores how Islamic institutions and educators in the West integrate civic values, multiculturalism, and Islamic teachings into educational practices. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) method with an exploratory qualitative approach, the study analyzes 10 scholarly articles, sourced from Scopus, Sinta, and Google Scholar. The findings reveal four key themes: (1) Islamic education functions as a space for negotiating dual identities among Muslim students; (2) there is active integration of civic values such as tolerance, social responsibility, and justice into Islamic curricula; (3) Muslim educators play a strategic role as cultural mediators and transformative agents in building inclusive identities; and (4) structural challenges persist, including institutional discrimination, restrictive secular policies, and limited policy support. This study affirms that Islamic education in the West is not merely a vehicle for religious preservation, but also a strategic platform for cultivating participatory, democratic, and pluralistic citizenship.

Abstract

The social-religious gap between the Langgar and pesantren education systems within the context of colonial education policy was one of the reasons for the emergence of the movement to establish Arabic schools in south-Central Java during the first half of the 20th century. This research aims to explain the social-religious movement of organizational and non-organizational actors fighting for the right to religious education for children of primary school age in several districts and subdistrict centers in south-Central Java. Using the historical method, this research collected data from archives and scholarly works on religious social movements, focusing on movement actors, mobilization, and religious social change. The results indicated that the Arab school movement actors in South-Central Java were religious social organization activists, religious officials, and educational figures who mobilized their internal networks to construct new meanings and identities as religious social change unfolded. The study concludes that the Arab school movement has succeeded in transforming the new collective religious social identity in South-Central Java by enabling Arab school alumni to become an autonomous group alongside alumni of Islamic boarding schools and graduates of hegemonic colonial schools. They succeeded in becoming village officials who guided the religious-social community in south-Central Jva to follow the flow of religion.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of the Gestalt Counseling approach into the counseling management system of Islamic boarding schools to improve the psychological well-being of students. The research approach used is qualitative with a case study design. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study indicate that the Gestalt approach is effective in increasing self-awareness, strengthening interpersonal relationships and empathy, and encouraging a more humanistic and responsive transformation of the counseling management system. Students become more capable of recognizing and expressing their emotions, building healthy social relationships, and demonstrating personal responsibility in solving problems. These findings prove that modern psychological approaches such as Gestalt can be harmoniously contextualized within an Islamic educational environment. Implicitly, Islamic boarding schools can develop an integrative counseling model that combines religious values with contemporary psychological approaches to create an educational ecosystem that supports the holistic spiritual, emotional, and social development of students. This research also opens up opportunities for the development of a more adaptive humanistic-based Islamic counseling theory tailored to the needs of students in the modern era, while accommodating the psychological dynamics faced by students in their daily lives.

Abstract

To analyze the transformation of Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) in the digital era, assess the contribution of digital technology to Islamic boarding schools, and propose the ideal model for digital Islamic boarding schools. The study uses a systematic literature review method utilizing the "Publish or Perish" application. Keywords such as "Pesantren Digital “or” Pesantren Technology “or” Pesantren Virtual “or” Islamic Boarding School Digital “or” Islamic Boarding School Technology “or” and Islamic Boarding School Virtual” were searched in the global indexing database "Scopus," followed by PRISMA data analysis. The digital transformation model in Islamic boarding schools includes changes in management, administration, learning, and digital skill development for students. The contribution of digital technology is diverse, ranging from improving administration and management, increasing access to digital-based learning, strengthening interactions between Islamic boarding schools, alumni, and the community, developing student skills in utilizing digital tools, and facilitating the spread of Islamic preaching (rahmatan lil alamin). This study implies that integrating digital technologies into Islamic boarding schools offers significant opportunities to improve educational practices and administrative efficiency. This study provides a new perspective on the ideal model of digital Islamic boarding schools using Giddens' perspective of Giddens' four elements.

Abstract

Madrasah Aliyah, an educational institution that combines conventional subjects with religious subjects, focuses on character development and academic skills. However, the evaluation of guidance counseling teachers on the transcendent character of Madrasah Aliyah students has not been optimally improved. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a psychological approach model to improve it. The purpose of this study is to develop a mindfulness breathing visual relaxation (BVR) model containing the recitation of Asmaul Husana to improve the transcendent character of Madrasah Aliyah students. The research method used is research and development (R&D) with 10 steps. This model was developed from a mindfulness strategy. Students' transcendent character was measured by the Self-Transcendence Scale (STS). Data analysis used an independent sample t-test on the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups. The results showed that the mindfulness breathing visual relaxation model containing the recitation of Asmaul Husana was effective in improving the transcendent character of Madrasah Aliyah students with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000. The novelty of this research is that the mindfulness model, previously implemented using breathing, visualization, and relaxation (BVR) techniques, is complemented by the recitation of Asmaul Husana (The Beautiful Names of Allah) at each stage, including the phrases "Ya Allah," "Ya Rahman," "Ya Rahim," "Ya Fattah," and "Ya 'Alim." These phrases are repeated 11 times.

Abstract

This study examines the process of value internalization in fostering students’ attitudes of religious moderation. The research aims to identify and articulate the concept of value internalization in relation to strengthening students’ moderation attitudes from the perspective of Bugis–Makassar local wisdom. The study employs a qualitative multisite approach in two madrasahs in Bulukumba Regency, referring to Robert K. Yin’s model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings of this study provide an important contribution to elaborating the theory of value internalization proposed by Emile Durkheim and Muhaimin within the context of value cultivation, by exploring how elements of local wisdom are internalized by students as part of efforts to strengthen attitudes of religious moderation. The formal finding of this research is the formulation of the PINTAR value-internalization concept, which consists of Environmental Conditioning, Habituation, Experience, Transinternalization, Appreciation through Reward and Punishment, and Role Modeling.

Abstract

This study aims to address the problem of low student engagement at MTs Negeri 3 Sidoarjo, East Java, by integrating deep learning and gamification into a digital learning platform. Low student engagement at MTs Negeri 3 Sidoarjo, East Java, is often caused by impersonal teaching methods and the lack of interactive elements that suit their psychological characteristics. Therefore, this study proposes an adaptive system that utilizes deep learning to analyze individual student learning patterns and then uses it to personalize gamification content and challenges. This study used a mixed-methods experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group using an integrated learning platform and a control group using conventional learning methods. Quantitative data were collected through user activity logs (interaction duration, task completion rate), student engagement questionnaire scores, and academic grades before and after the intervention. The results showed that the learning platform integrating deep learning and gamification significantly increased student engagement (p < 0.05). Quantitative data showed an increase in the average interaction duration and task completion rate in the experimental group compared to the control group. Furthermore, there was a positive correlation between the level of engagement and students' academic scores in the experimental group. Interviews confirmed that students felt more motivated and enjoyed the learning process due to the challenging elements and personalized feedback provided by the platform. Overall, this study demonstrates that the combination of deep learning and gamification technology is an effective approach to improving student engagement and learning outcomes at MTs Negeri 3 Sidoarjo, East Java.
