Karsa: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat is a peer-reviewed national journal dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly works in the field of community service and engagement. The journal aims to provide a scientific platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners to publish the results of community-based activities that apply knowledge, research findings, and innovations for the empowerment and development of society. Abstract

Drugs play a very active role as the biggest threat to the nation's future generations. Just as drug abuse and traf icking has grown rapidly in various circles, even more so now it has developed among students. As the next generation of the nation, students must be able to become agents of change for society in an ef ort to reject drugs. By carrying out activities to prevent drugs, one of them is by being active in making the Say To Drugs movement a success. This research examines the role of KPI STAIN Mandailing Natal students in the success of the "Say No To Drugs" movement. As agents of change who have good communication skills, KPI students are expected to make a significant contribution to ef orts to prevent drug abuse among society, especially among the nation's next generation of youth. The purpose of this research is to see what roles KPI students play in carrying out anti-drug activities

Abstract

The abuse of drugs and online gambling has become a significant global issue with detrimental impacts on individuals, families, and communities. In Indonesia, particularly in Jorong Pemukiman Baru II, Kecamatan Koto Balingka, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat, this challenge is becoming increasingly apparent. Drugs, including narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances, can lead to addiction and serious health issues. Meanwhile, online gambling, which involves betting through digital platforms, can result in addiction, financial loss, and social problems. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a drug and online gambling prevention education program conducted on August 18, 2024, in Jorong Pemukiman Baru II. The program employed educational methods through counseling, distribution of educational materials in the form of posters, and life skills training. Data collection was carried out through direct interviews with local residents. The results indicate a significant improvement in the community's understanding of the dangers of drugs and online gambling after the counseling sessions. Respondents demonstrated a better awareness of the long-term effects of drug abuse and the risks associated with online gambling, as well as improved skills in identifying and avoiding these issues. The program proved effective in raising awareness and knowledge among the community, with findings supporting the need for ongoing educational programs to maintain and strengthen the achieved understanding. This program can serve as a model for prevention in other communities with adjustments tailored to local needs.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal and explain the existence of the traditional tor-tor dance in Jorong Taming Batahan, Ranah Batahan District, West Pasaman Regency in the current era, especially at weddings. From this research we know that the tor-tor dance was brought by the ancestors of the Mandailing tribe, Mandailing Natal district, North Sumatera who migrated to West Pasaman and also mixed marriages between the native West Pasaman people and Batak immigrants which further strengthened the tor-tor dance culture.

Abstract

The age of early marriage (under 19 years) often occurs in Jorong Pemukiman Baru 2. This figure is 7% lower than the previous 2 years. Early marriage often occurs due to social ef ects, apart from that, the content which contains quite a few adult shows also has a big influence on the mindset of children who do not get enough supervision from their parents when playing with gadgets. The impact of early marriage includes a high risk of death for young mothers. experiencing baby blues (excessive depression after giving birth), unstable economic conditions due to constraints in education and failure to achieve a future career, divorce, poor morals in society due to being an example for young people and often used as a trend, rights being taken away -Children's rights, abandonment by parents is one of the impacts of divorce. The aim of this research is, apart from carrying out  the Work Program during the KKN period, it is also to provide a wider understanding to the community, especially the people of Jorong Pemukiman Baru 2 regarding the importance of preventing early marriage, as well as strategies that can be implemented to avoid early marriage, considering the many risks posed, and the impact on oneself, family and society. Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of TPQ Al-Muhajirin female students and female students in Jorong Semukiman Baru II, Koto Balingka District, West Pasaman Regency, regarding procedures for caring for corpses in Islam. This training was carried out using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach which included two main stages: conveying theory about laws and procedures for caring for corpses, as well as direct practice. Apart from that, theservice team develops learning applications and videos as tools to help in the educational process.  This training took place on August 20 2024 and was attended by 25 participants from the TPQ Al-Muhajirin Al-Qur'an class. Training resource person, Wahidatun Hidayah S.Pd. deliver material using interactive and practical methods. The results of this activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the procedures for caring for corpses and the use of applications to support learning. This program is ef ective in enriching students' knowledge and facilitating a more ef icient and comprehensive learning process.

Abstract

The education on gadget usage among elementary and junior high school students was carried out in Mandailing Natal Regency with the organizing committee from the Mandailing Natal Education Office. This event was conducted over two days, with a total of 100 participants from elementary schools and 100 from junior high schools, coming from various schools around the city of Panyabungan. This community service was conducted in the form of a seminar, featuring speakers from higher education academia. Using the service learning method, students were motivated to understand the meaning of the material presented by relating it to their everyday life context, especially regarding gadget use to develop their skills in social, cultural, and family settings. The importance of managing gadget usage was explained by two speakers, and there was also a question-and-answer session. This educational program resulted in the elementary and junior high school students becoming aware of the importance of gadget usage  a good gadget. In addition, students instill in themselves the ability to adjust their gadget needs to avoid the negative effects of excessive gadget use. The contribution of this article provides knowledge about the proper use of gadgets among elementary and junior high school students and can serve as a reference for deepening activities related to gadget education.

Abstract

Leadership is an essential skill that needs to be instilled from a young age so that the younger generation can play a role as agents of change in society. This community service activity aims to cultivate a spirit of leadership and initiative among teenagers through leadership training based on a problem-solving approach. The method used in this activity is Participatory Action Research (PAR) with a participatory training approach. The activity was conducted in Pagar Gunung Village, Mandailing Natal Regency, involving 35 teenage participants aged 15–20 from various youth organization backgrounds, such as Karang Taruna, Mosque Youth, and the local school student council. The results of the activity show that this training is capable of enhancing three important aspects in adolescents: (1) an increase in understanding of the basic concepts of leadership and the role of youth as agents of change; (2) an improvement in critical and analytical thinking skills in identifying and seeking solutions to social problems in their environment; and (3) an increase in courage and initiative in voicing ideas and taking an active role in the community. Through pre-test and post-test evaluations, an average increase of 42% in the understanding of leadership concepts was observed. Some participants even committed to implementing solutions to the issues raised in the training, such as waste management, youth literacy activities, and anti-bullying campaigns. This activity not only provides conceptual knowledge but also fosters critical thinking and initiative among the youth. In the future, such programs need to be continued and synergized with educational institutions, youth organizations, and village governments so that their sustainability and social impact become broader and more tangible.

Abstract

In this tajhizul mayit training activity for the MDA GUPPI children of Pastap Julu Village, the community service provided guidance on important issues related to human relations with other humans, namely the problem of tajhizul mayit (corpse care). Islam pays very serious attention to this issue, so that this is one of the obligations that must be fulfilled by humanity, especially Muslims. This community service work aims to 1). Equip MDA children with tajhizul mayit skills. 2). Train MDA children to be able to implement and develop the religious knowledge they have obtained in society. Meanwhile, the benefits that will be generated from this training are 1). Improving the skills of MDA children in properly and correctly handling corpses in accordance with the teachings of Islamic law, so that if one day they are needed they are ready to use. 2). Increasing skilled personnel in handling corpses. 3). Increasing the skills of the modin in handling corpses. The result of this community service work is that the MDA GUPPI children of Pastap Julu Village have been able to implement and practice how to properly and correctly handle corpses in accordance with the provisions of Islamic law.

Abstract

Training to read the Al-Qur'an with tajwid using the Tahsin Tilawah method aims to improve the quality of Al-Qur'an reading for mosque teenagers in Gedangan Village. This activity is motivated by the importance of the ability to read the Koran correctly according to the rules of tajwid, which is still a challenge for most teenagers in the village. The Tahsin Tilawah method was chosen because of its systematic and effective approach in correcting reading errors, as well as providing a deeper understanding of the laws of recitation. This training was carried out in several stages, namely a pre-test to determine the participants' initial abilities, an intensive training session covering the theory and practice of recitation, and a post-test to measure the improvement in reading quality. The results of the training showed a significant increase in the ability to read the Al-Qur'an with correct recitation. Mosque teenagers who took part in this training experienced improvements in letter articulation, application of reading laws, and increased self-confidence in reciting verses from the Koran. It is hoped that this training can become a sustainable program to produce young people who are not only fluent in reading the Koran, but also understand the rules of recitation well.

Abstract

The purpose of this Taharah education and practice is to help the congregation of the Nurul Hidayah Huta Talon Kondot Panombean Pane Simalungun community understand the material related to Taharah and the procedures for performing Taharah in their daily lives, in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The practical implementation is intended to enable the congregation to directly understand how to perform Taharah properly and correctly. The work program that has been prepared includes several methods for its implementation. These methods include training and outreach related to Taharah education for the congregation of the Nurul Hidayah Huta Talon Kondot Panombean Pane Simalungun community. The results of this educational program on understanding Taharah among the congregation of the Nurul Hidayah Huta Talon Kondot Panombean Pane Simalungun community show that all congregants can effectively follow the Taharah practices. This indicates that they have understood the Taharah procedures.
