Karsa: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat is a peer-reviewed national journal dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly works in the field of community service and engagement. The journal aims to provide a scientific platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners to publish the results of community-based activities that apply knowledge, research findings, and innovations for the empowerment and development of society. The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, reports and studies on community empowerment, community development programs, technology and knowledge transfer to society, social innovation, education and training for communities, health and environmental services, and other forms of applied community service across multidisciplinary fields. Published twice a year (June and December) in English, the journal upholds rigorous peer-review standards under the supervision of the scientific board to ensure the quality, relevance, and impact of the published articles.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to develop a character-based thematic English module and assessment to enhance the quality of English learning at SD Al Hikmah Semarang. The subjects involved in this program include English teachers and Grade 6 students who participated in the implementation and evaluation stages. The program employed several steps: needs analysis, module and assessment design, expert validation, revision, and limited classroom implementation. Qualitative data were collected through observations, interviews, and field notes. The results indicate that the developed thematic module is contextually relevant, engaging for students, and effective in supporting more communicative and meaningful English learning. The character-based assessment also enables teachers to monitor students’ behavioral development and language skills more systematically. Overall, this program concludes that the character-based thematic module and assessment are feasible to be used as supporting learning materials in primary school English education.

Abstract

Strengthening the character of vocational school youth to become strong and great teenagers is a youth seminar held at MITRA TANI Vocational School, Panyabungan. This seminar aims to empower youth to develop individuals with strong morals, good ethics, and superior personalities, thus becoming responsible, independent, and virtuous citizens. Social phenomena frequently occurring among adolescents, such as juvenile delinquency, brawls, alcohol and drug parties, promiscuity leading to promiscuity, and criminal acts such as robbery, murder, and many more, reflect youth who are not great and strong, and this has also become a concern for parents and the community. The seminar was attended by 50 vocational school students, consisting of members of the MITRA TANI Vocational School Student Council (OSIS), with speakers from universities and the police. With a one-day seminar, this activity was packaged using a service learning method, students were motivated to understand the meaning of the material presented by relating it to the context of everyday life. Specifically, on the occurrence of the phenomenon of adolescent cases and the causes and solutions provided, and provided an opportunity for students to ask questions and be answered by the speaker. The seminar on strengthening adolescents that was carried out resulted in vocational high school students realizing the importance of being a teenager with character. In addition, students also instilled in themselves the ability to be able to become great and strong teenagers. The contribution of this article provides knowledge about strengthening the character of great and strong teenagers and can be used as a reference for deepening community service activities related to adolescent character.
