Abstract

Background: Indonesia has a high smoking rate and is a leading tobacco producer, with adolescent smoking prevalence increasing from 18.3% to 19.2% in 2019. This study explored smoking knowledge and behavior among 60 male adolescents in rural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study was conducted in rural areas in Indonesia. We employed a cross-sectional research design and included 60 adolescents, especially males, using data from a questionnaire about smoking knowledge and behavior. The dependent variables included knowledge and behavior of smoking in adolescents that occurred during COVID-19. The independent variables included adolescent-related factors about smoking during COVID-19.Results: Individuals from rural areas in Indonesia started smoking at a very young age and had years of smoking experience using conventional cigarette since then. Receiving counseling about the dangers of smoking was statistically significantly related to good knowledge. Moreover, learning about the susceptibility of smoking to contract (p = 0.007), spread (p = 0.029), worsen symptoms (p < 0.001), and create a higher risk of COVID-19 infection (p = 0.001) can promote good knowledge. More than 50% of adolescents had the intention to decrease smoking around individuals and in the house during COVID-19.Conclusion:Interventions targeting individuals at an early school age are needed. To develop knowledge and behavior about smoking among adolescents in Indonesia, schools should cooperate with other agencies.

Abstract

Background of Study: Nurses frequently experience high levels of occupational stress due to demanding workload conditions, leading to Burnout Syndrome (BOS). Burnout is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment, significantly impacting nurse well-being and healthcare service quality.Aims and Scope of Paper: This study examines the relationship between workload and burnout syndrome among nurses at Aisyiyah Siti Fatimah Tulangan Hospital, Sidoarjo, aiming to identify the prevalence of burnout and its association with workload levels. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional quantitative analytical design, involving 40 nurses from inpatient and outpatient units selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a structured workload questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), which measures three dimensions of burnout: Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Decreased Personal Accomplishment. Statistical analysis used the Chi-Square test with SPSS software to determine the significance of the relationship (p < 0.05).Result: The majority of nurses (75%) reported moderate workload, while 25% experienced low workload; there were no cases of high workload. Despite this, the prevalence of burnout was very high, with 82.5% of nurses experiencing moderate burnout and 7.5% experiencing high burnout symptoms. Chi-square analysis confirmed a significant relationship (p < 0.05) between workload and burnout syndrome. Nurses with moderate workload were more likely to experience moderate to high burnout (93.3%). Emotional exhaustion emerged as the most affected component of burnout. Conclusion: This study highlights that even moderate levels of workload can significantly contribute to burnout in nurses. These findings challenge the traditional view that only high workloads cause burnout, suggesting that psychological distress plays a crucial role. These results emphasize the need for effective workload management strategies, mental health support, and institutional interventions

Abstract

Background: Digital transformation has become a critical driver in improving healthcare quality, efficiency, and accessibility, particularly within nursing management. However, existing studies often examine technology adoption, leadership, and patient-centered care separately, resulting in fragmented understanding of their interrelationships in nursing management contexts. Objective:This study aims to synthesize evidence on how digital transformation is implemented in nursing management, examine the role of nursing leadership in technology integration, and evaluate its impact on patient-centered care and clinical decision-making.Method: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines using the Scopus database for publications from 2001–2025. Search strategies combined keywords related to digital transformation, nursing management, leadership, health informatics, and patient-centered care. From 323 records, 75 studies met inclusion criteria after screening, eligibility assessment, and full-text review. Bibliometric analysis was performed using Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to identify trends and thematic networks.Result: Findings indicate that technologies such as electronic health records (EHR), telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), and clinical decision support systems significantly enhance service accessibility, personalization, and patient engagement. Nursing leadership plays a pivotal role in aligning technological innovations with clinical workflows, managing organizational change, and addressing risks related to data security and digital competency gaps. Nevertheless, challenges persist, including administrative burden, alert fatigue, privacy concerns, and uneven digital readiness among nurses. Conclusion: Digital transformation in nursing management is a multidimensional process requiring strong, adaptive leadership and strategic integration of technology to achieve sustainable patient-centered care. This review proposes an integrative perspective linking leadership, digital systems, and clinical outcomes, and highlights future research needs in longitudinal evaluation, contextual validation, and socio-ethical impacts of digital healthcare transformation.
