Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) opens a new chapter in education, including Islamic education. This study aims to examine the opportunities, challenges, and pedagogical implications of AI integration in Islamic education in Indonesia. Employing a systematic literature review of 48 reputable journal articles published between 2020–2024, supplemented by qualitative field studies at ten Islamic educational institutions. The findings reveal that AI holds great potential for enhancing learning personalization, assessment efficiency, and accessibility of Islamic content. However, ethical, theological, and educator competency challenges remain significant barriers that must be addressed. Pedagogical implications suggest the need to develop an AI-Islamic Pedagogy framework that integrates Islamic values as an ethical foundation for AI use in education. The study concludes that AI integration in Islamic education must be implemented gradually, systematically, and grounded in a robust Islamic epistemology.

Abstract

The low level of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among students in Islamic education learning is a pressing problem that requires innovative solutions. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of technology-based assessment innovations in improving students' HOTS in Islamic education subjects. A quasi-experimental research design with pre-test and post-test control group was employed involving 240 students at eight madrasah aliyah in East Java. Results show that the group receiving technology-based assessment experienced a significant increase in HOTS scores with an N-Gain value of 0.67 (medium-high category), far surpassing the control group with N-Gain of 0.28. The most improved HOTS dimensions were analytical ability and critical evaluation of Islamic texts. The conclusion confirms that technology-based assessment is proven effective in improving HOTS and can be recommended as an innovative assessment model in Islamic education.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping the character of the younger generation to become morally responsible and competitive individuals. However, the 3T regions (frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped areas) still face significant challenges, including limited access to education, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient human resources. This study aims to formulate a strategic management design for Islamic education that is adaptive and applicable in 3T areas. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of problems and strategic solutions. The findings reveal that the success of Islamic education in 3T regions depends largely on synergy among government institutions, local communities, and educational organizations. Key strategies include strengthening teachers’ capacity through continuous training, utilizing both online and offline learning technologies, and optimizing the role of local communities. This study highlights the importance of inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable educational policies to improve Islamic education quality in 3T regions.

Abstract

Kitabah (writing) instruction in Islamic higher education faces challenges due to the complexity of jamak taksir (broken plurals) and limited digital tool integration. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a jamak taksir digital dictionary in enhancing students' Arabic writing skills. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 20 Arabic Language Education students through Likert-scale questionnaires and observations, then analyzed via SPSS. Results indicate the digital dictionary is highly effective, earning an overall mean score of 4.23 (84.6%), categorized as "Excellent." Specific scores include ease of use (4.20), improved understanding (4.35), and learning efficiency (4.15). Observations showed 85% student active engagement, with 80% demonstrating improved accuracy in applying broken plurals. Despite minor hurdles like varying digital literacy, the findings prove that this digital medium significantly supports Arabic morphology mastery and student autonomy. Consequently, developing interactive digital tools is essential for modernizing Arabic language pedagogy in the digital era.

Abstract

The development of global management thought has profoundly influenced educational governance in Islamic institutions. Purpose: This study aims to examine how Islamic leadership values can be integrated with modern management principles in the administration of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia. Method: The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, involving 12 principals and educational managers from Islamic schools and madrasas across three provinces. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. Results: Findings indicate that effective Islamic educational leadership combines prophetic values (shura, amanah, adl) with contemporary management functions (planning, organizing, actuating, controlling), resulting in a distinctive hybrid leadership model that enhances both institutional performance and spiritual culture. Conclusion: The integration of Islamic values and modern management principles is not contradictory but complementary, producing a contextually relevant and spiritually grounded leadership paradigm for Islamic educational institutions.
