Abstract

Abstract This study was the broadening of a previous action research. The purpose of this study was to increase the interest of the students to read literature. This study was also aimed to explore the appropriateness of the literature for the students, the type of the assignment given by the lecturer, and the quality of circulation of the literature. This action research was done in nineteen undergraduate and one graduate courses from different study programs. The respondents of the study were the students and the lecturers of the courses. The data were collected using questionnaire and observation. The questionnaire was used to collect data from lecturers and from the students of the courses, while the observation was used to collect data about the activity of the students and the librarians. The data collected were analyzed quantatively, to describe of the percentage the respondents responding every question. The result of this study indicated that the majority of the students read the literature 1.5 hours per day outside the examination period and 3.5 hours during the examination period. The special service provided by IKIP Yogyakarta library combined with a systematic assignment from the lecturer made it possible for the students to be interested in reading the literature. This can be seen from the responses of the students, who generally viewed that most of the literatures were interesting, relevant, and very useful for the students to deepen their knowledge and skills. However, there were many of the students who found difficulties in understanding literature in English. The types of assignment given to the students were writing a book  or report of reading, doing a discussion related to the literature, or writing a research proposal. The way the librarian handles the literature circulation was good. The condition of the reading room needed to be improved in order to be more comfortable. However that condition was better than the condition in the previous study. Keywords: reading interest, library service, and reserve literature.

Abstract

Abstract This study is aimed at describing the forms and the reasons of code switching in the Ekspresi Lisan teaching learning process through a naturalistic research. The data were collected by observation and interview. The data were analyzed continually while the data were collected as well as after the data were grouped and categorized. The finding of the research  suggests, that there are two forms of code switching in the Ekspresi Lisaan teaching learning process, namely from Javanese to Indonesian and from Jawa krama to Jawa ngoko. There are four reasons of the code switching found in this research. Those reasons are, (1) to express certain intention, (2) to make the topic clearer, (3) to reduce the level of formality in the teaching and learning process, (4) the mastery speech level of the students is not adequate. Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini  bertujuan untuk mencari: (1) wujud satuan majas apa sajakah yang terdapat dalam puisi-puisi yang terkandung dalam buku pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk SD kelas IV sampai dengan VI (2) macam majas apakah yang terdapat dalam puisi yang terkandung dalam buku pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk kelas IV sampai dengan VI (3) fungsi majas apa sajakah yang terdapat dalam puisi yang terkandung dalam buku pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk kelas IV sampai dengan VI. Subjek penelitian ini adalah puisi-puisi yang terkandung dalam buku pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia uuntuk SD kelas IV sampai dengan kelas VI terbitan Balai Pustaka, Yudhistira, dan INtan Pariwara jumlah puisi itu ada53 buah. Ada yng berupa syair, pantun danpuisi baru. Puisi-puisi ini semua dijadikan subjek penelitian. Metode atau teknik penelitian yang dipergunakan dalam menganalisa data yaitu interpretative, deskriptif namun juga menggunakan teknik kategorisasi dan kuantifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1) wujud majas ada tiga macam yakni majas larik, majas  bait, majas puisi (2) macam majas yaitu : simile, metafora, personifikasi, metinimia, sinekdok, hiperbola, litotes, eufemisme, dan paradox, (3) fungsi majas adalah untuk mengkonkretan, pengintensifan, pengekspresian, pemadatan dan keritmisan.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to portray the implementation and models of production units as partial characteristics of vocational high school in Yogyakarta Special Territory. The study is descriptive in nature, using documentation, questionnaire and interviews supplemented by casual observations involving five vocational high schools specializing in industrial and technological programs. The data was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study concludes that the concept of production units is not widely understood, needs more intensive socialization and more rigorous planning. The program has many constrains to overcome, especially in human resources factor. Prominent types of business found in school production units include manufacturing and maintenance service, applying both regular and contract system. Abstract

Abstract This research aims to find out the influence of employment-world information and industry practice experience toward the readiness of work-mental of the students in vocational school. The population of this research is all the third grade students of electrical engineering, SMK N 3 Yogyakarta. The data obtained was analyzed by using the technique of two predictors’ double regression with significant rate of 5%. The analysis result shows that: (1) the level of work mental readiness of the third grade students of Electrical Engineering, SMKN 3 Yogyakarta is very high with mean value 82.32; (2) There is influence of employment-world towards the readiness of work-mental at the significance rate of 5% with the regression coefficient of (b) = 0.418 and the amount of the effective information contribution of employment-world is 16.956%; (3) Ther is influence of industrial practice experience towards the readiness of work-mental at the significance rate of 5% with regression coefficient (b)= 0.641 and the amount of the effective information contribution of work-world is 25.725%; (4) There is a united influence between employment-world information and industrial practice experience toward the readiness of work-mental at the significance rate of 5% with the determination coefficient of 0.427. analysis result of two predictors regression found F=39.842. Abstract

Abstract This research was aimed at resolving two problems: (1)What Indonesian Language subject matters are appropriate for the students of non-Indonesian Language major? (2) What kind of instructional method is appropriate the students of non-Indonesian major? The subjects of this research are 100 students of non-Indonesian Language major, who have taken the Indonesian Language course at the Sanata Dharma University. The result of this research is as follows: (1)most of the 100 students have the opinion that the Indonesian Language course should be emphasized more on the lesson on writing scientific compositions, and (2)the instructional method used should give the students ample opportunity to conduct individual learning and to do exercise. Abstract

Abstract For most Elementary School students, problem solving is the most difficult topic. Therefore, we have to use an instructional approach that is effective to increase the student’s problem solving ability. Contextual approach and the use of open-ended problems are expected to be effective to increase problem solving ability. This research is intended to investigate whether the approaches are more effective than the traditional one. The data are analyzed and tested by Analysis of variance, followed by LSD multiple comparisons. The result indicates that contextual teaching and learning approach and the use of open-ended problem are more effective than the traditional instruction and contextual teaching and learning approach is as effective as the use of open ended problems for improving problem solving ability. Abstract

Abstract Education budget is assumed to have a strong relationship with quality improvement and opportunity equalization  especially at the basic education level. Therefore, it is necessary to identify an education-financial model that can improve uthe quality and accessibility of education. This research was an  evaluative type of survey, 36 Public Elementary Schools and 18 Private Elementary Schools were included, and 162 respondents were purposively selected to find out the profile of education budget at basic education level and then a model of education budget was explored. The results of this study indicated that most  of public  elementary schools revenue mostly came from the parents and community sources. The biggest portion of expenditure was allocated for teacher salary , and only a small portion was allocated for instrumental activities and for procurement of facilities. The direct and indirect cost paid the parents was bigger than in private schools, and most of which was the direct cost. The unit cost for private school was bigger. This study also found out that  there was relationship between the quality and accessibility  on the one side, and the revenue and expenditure compositions at the school level on the other side. Based on the result of this study, basic policies are needed to decrease the school dependency on government sources, and to increase the community sources for increasing the basic education quality and accessibility. Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate students’ understanding of 1994 high school economics curriculum. The problems of this study are formulated as follows: (1) What economics curriculum materials are difficult to understand?; (2)What curriculum concepts or materials are difficult to teach when students would assume teaching position after they graduated? This exploratory study utilizing survey design has been done in the Department of Cooperative Economics, Faculty of Social Studies Teaching, Institute of Teaching and Educational Sciences Yogyakarta. The sample of this study is drawn by using convenient sampling technique. From this technique, eighty seven students can be determine as the sample in this study. This sample consists of those students who are in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th semester. Data analysis is done with univariate and bivariate descriptive method by using SPSS computer software. The finding of this study are: (1) students’ understanding in 1994 high school economics curriculum generally are low both in terms of teaching context and in terms of economics structure; (2) Curriculum materials which are the most difficult to understand and also difficult to teach, are the ones of the third quarter of the third grade of economics high school classes. Those materials consist of (1) Simple Linear Regression; (2) The Application of Regression in Economics; (3) Time Series (4) The analysis of Time Series Data; (5) Linear Secular Trend: (6) The Use of Time Series Analysis in Economics. Those difficulties arise because the majority of students do not fully master the concept themselves and the method how to teach those concepts.
