Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) was an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Factors that influenced the emergence of DHF were divided into three: agent factors (dengue virus), host factors (age, gender, population mobility, education), and environmental factors (physical, biological, and socio-economic environment). DHF diagnosis was confirmed through laboratory criteria, including platelet count and hematocrit increase. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age, gender, and platelet count with the incidence of DHF at GMIM Pancaran Kasih General Hospital Manado. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age, gender, and platelet count with the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever among patients at GMIM Pancaran Kasih General Hospital Manado. The research method used in this study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Statistical tests were conducted using the chi-square test. It used secondary data from 2024 with a total population of 141 patients. Based on the research results, there was a significant relationship between the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and age (p-value 0,025), platelet count (p-value 0.002), and there was no significant relationship between the incidence of DHF and gender (p-value 0.962) at GMIM Pancaran Kasih General Hospital Manado.

Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health challenge in endemic areas such as Jayapura District. Strengthening the capacity of health cadres through education and practical training is a strategic step in malaria prevention efforts. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of malaria cadres through health education and demonstration of how to prepare biolarvicide and repellent formulations using lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon citratus). The methods used included a pre-test, educational sessions, practical training, post-test, and skills evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with an average pre-test score of 77.39 and a post-test score of 97.39. All participants showed improvement in their scores, with the majority achieving the maximum score in the post-test. Additionally, participants demonstrated good to excellent practical skills in preparing the formulations, as observed directly. These findings indicate that an educational and hands-on approach in community engagement activities is effective in enhancing the capacity of malaria cadres in the Khomba Waliyauw Community Health Center area.

Abstract

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life, marked by the permanent cessation of menstruation due to declining ovarian function. Many women experience menopause-related symptoms that impact their physical and psychological well-being. This community service program aims to enhance knowledge among premenopausal and menopausal women about reproductive health through education. The methods used include lectures, interactive discussions, and pre-test and post-test assessments to measure participants’ knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge levels after the education program, with the “good” category increasing from 20% to 66.67%. Participants responded positively, stating that the provided information was highly beneficial for preparing for menopause. This program is expected to be sustainable with the involvement of healthcare workers and local communities to improve the readiness and quality of life of menopausal women

Abstract

Shivering is a common side effect after spinal anesthesia that can increase oxygen demand, the risk of cardiac complications. This condition is triggered by factors such as body temperature, operating room temperature, and urological surgery-related factors like dehydration, bleeding, and the effects of anesthesia that disrupt thermoregulation, potentially leading to shivering. This study aimed to determine the incidence of shivering after spinal anesthesia based on pre-anesthetic body temperature and operating room temperature characteristics in patients undergoing urological surgery. A descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 41 urological surgery patients selected using quota sampling from a total population of 71 patients. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula. The results showed that most patients with pre-anesthetic hypothermia (<36.5°C) did not experience shivering (43.9%), and a similar finding was observed in patients with normal body temperature (36.5–37.5°C), where 24.4% did not experience shivering. Only one patient (2.4%) with hyperthermia experienced grade 2 shivering. In terms of operating room temperature, 63.4% of patients in rooms with temperatures below the ideal range (<18°C) and 4.9% in rooms with ideal temperatures (18–22°C) did not experience shivering. It can be concluded that the majority of patients in this study did not develop shivering after spinal anesthesia, however, 31.8% of them did experience shivering, which requires proper attention and early management. Further studies involving more diverse variables are recommended to explore additional factors that may contribute to the incidence of shivering.

Abstract

This article is a literature review that systematically examines leadership strategies and managerial innovation applied in type C hospitals, with the aim of identifying effective approaches in improving the quality of health services. Type C hospitals as medium-level health facilities have an important role in the referral service system, but often face challenges in the management and provision of quality services. Therefore, strengthening leadership and innovation aspects is crucial to answer the need for sustainable service reform. This study uses a systematic literature review method by analyzing national and international scientific publications published in the 2020–2025 time frame. The focus of the study was directed to the themes of transformational leadership, managerial innovation, and service quality of type C hospitals. The results of the study show that transformational leadership has a strategic role in shaping an innovative and collaborative organizational culture. This leadership style encourages changes in organizational behavior, increased motivation of health workers, and openness to digital transformation. Managerial innovations, especially in the form of digitizing services and strengthening health information systems, have been proven to improve operational efficiency, medical data accuracy, and patient satisfaction. The synergy between visionary leadership and planned managerial innovation creates an adaptive and quality-oriented healthcare ecosystem. However, the implementation of this strategy still faces obstacles in the form of resistance to change, limited resources, and low digital literacy among health workers. Therefore, managerial commitment, human resource capacity development, and consistent policy support are needed to ensure the sustainability of healthcare transformation in type C hospitals.
