Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the quality of services at the Manado Regional Dental and Oral Hospital (RSKDGM) by strengthening two essential aspects of healthcare delivery: the responsiveness and reliability of medical staff. The background of this activity stems from persistent patient complaints regarding service quality, including delays, ineffective communication, and a lack of empathy from some medical personnel. These issues are particularly concerning given that RSKDGM is widely recognized for its complete and modern dental facilities. The methods used in this activity included intensive training sessions for both medical and non-medical staff on excellent service delivery, simulations of daily service situations to enhance staff readiness in handling various types of patients, and participatory evaluation sessions involving patients and hospital management. These evaluations aimed to gather direct feedback from patients on the changes implemented and to serve as input for continuous improvement. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in staff awareness of the importance of providing fast, accurate, and empathetic service. Staff members became more communicative, responsive to patient needs, and demonstrated higher levels of professionalism. From the patients’ perspective, there was an improvement in satisfaction, particularly regarding the speed of service and the quality of interactions with medical personnel. This community service project made a tangible contribution to fostering a patient-centered service culture and strengthening the relationship between healthcare providers and the community. Furthermore, the approach used in this program can serve as a model for continuous training in similar hospitals, especially those specializing in dental care.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the utilization of elderly health posts (posyandu lansia) in Pasan Subdistrict, Southeast Minahasa Regency. The research used a quantitative analytic method with a cross-sectional approach involving 300 elderly respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using chi-square statistical tests. The results showed significant associations between the level of knowledge (p = 0.002), attitudes (p = 0.011), access to services (p = 0.021), family support (p = 0.003), and the role of health officers (p = 0.018) with posyandu utilization. Knowledge emerged as the most dominant factor influencing behavior. These findings support Green’s theory that predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors affect health behavior. The study recommends improving health literacy among the elderly, enhancing family involvement, and optimizing the role of health personnel to increase participation in posyandu services. Limitations of the study include its geographic focus and the use of quantitative design only.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing a triple burden of nutritional problems, including stunting, wasting, and obesity, as well as micronutrient deficiencies such as anemia. These issues are particularly prevalent among adolescents and adults, with common problems including undernutrition, overnutrition, and iron deficiency leading to anemia. This study was conducted in the Nutrition Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. It aimed to examine the relationship between macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, fats, and proteins), physical activity, and the nutritional status of students. A cross-sectional study design was employed to collect data at a single point in time and analyze the associations between variables. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between carbohydrate intake and nutritional status, as indicated by a p-value of 0.217 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.135. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted. However, a significant relationship was found between fat intake and nutritional status, with a p-value of 0.049, suggesting that fat consumption plays a role in determining the nutritional status of students. On the other hand, protein intake did not show a significant relationship with nutritional status, as indicated by a p-value of 0.470. Similarly, physical activity was not significantly associated with nutritional status, with a p-value of 0.228. In conclusion, the study found that among the variables examined, only fat intake had a significant effect on students' nutritional status. Carbohydrate intake, protein intake, and physical activity did not demonstrate meaningful associations. These findings can serve as a basis for evaluating and improving dietary patterns and healthy lifestyle habits among university students.

Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health challenge, particularly in remote areas. In 2023, 379 cases of malaria were recorded, with the highest number in Maibo Village (111 cases). To address this issue, a Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted, focusing on health checks and malaria screening in Maibo Village as a preventive and promotive effort in controlling the disease. This activity is expected to reduce the burden of malaria in areas with high prevalence rates. This PKM involved three series of activities: Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN), Malaria Prevention Counseling, and Health Checks. This activity was attended by various parties, including the UNIPA Faculty of Medicine Community Service Committee and Implementers, consisting of the Dean of UNIPA Faculty of Medicine and 15 others, 14 UNIPA Faculty of Medicine Community Service Students Class of 2020, as well as members of the 20/PPA Battalion (Yon Zipur 20/PPA) (24 people), the Aimas Police (9 people), and the Malawili Community Health Center Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) (5 people). The average age of the respondents who participated in this activity was 35 years, with an age range of 1 to 71 years, and the majority of participants were women (59 people, 39.74%). The examination results showed that 9 people (11.53%) were diagnosed with malaria, while the majority of respondents experienced other complaints, such as skin diseases (23.07%) and muscle pain (15.38%). This indicates an urgent need for integrated health services to address the various complaints that arise in the community. This activity had a positive impact in increasing awareness among the Maibo Village community regarding malaria prevention and the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS). It is recommended that education, regular check-ups, and active community involvement continue to be strengthened.

Abstract

Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS), widely recognized as shin splint, is a prevalent musculoskeletal disorder among adolescent runners. This condition often arises due to excessive training loads, repetitive high-impact activity, poor running mechanics, and the use of footwear that does not provide adequate support. If left unaddressed, shin splints can progress into more severe injuries, potentially limiting physical performance and increasing recovery time. This community service program was conducted with the aim of identifying early signs and providing appropriate management for shin splint complaints in members of the Physical Gunners Running Club. A musculoskeletal physiotherapy approach was applied, integrating multiple strategies: health education sessions to raise awareness of injury mechanisms and prevention, lower limb strengthening exercises to improve muscle endurance and stability, functional assessments using the Hop Test to detect potential symptoms, and personalized discussions and consultations to address individual needs. A total of 33 participants took part in the program. Assessment results revealed that 17 individuals (54.8%) presented positive Hop Test outcomes, indicating the presence of shin splint symptoms. These findings underscore the importance of early screening and prompt intervention, especially for physically active adolescents engaged in repetitive running activities. The implementation of this program demonstrated that physiotherapy interventions combining structured educational content and tailored exercise programs can effectively increase awareness, promote safe training habits, and reduce the risk of injury recurrence. Additionally, the program fostered active participation from the community, encouraging sustainable lifestyle changes. Overall, this activity shows promise as a preventive model that can be adapted and applied to other adolescent running communities, contributing to long-term musculoskeletal health, enhanced performance, and the promotion of healthy and active behavior.

Abstract

Patient safety is a key aspect in modern healthcare that has a significant impact on quality and patient satisfaction. This study aims to determine the relationship between the implementation of patient safety and the level of inpatient satisfaction in the Aisyah Room of Sekarwangi Hospital, Sukabumi Regency. The research design used was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 91 inpatients were selected at random and asked to fill out a structured questionnaire. The results showed that 96.7% of patients rated the implementation of patient safety in the good category and 94.5% stated a high level of satisfaction. The results of statistical analysis using the Pearson Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship (p = 0.000) between patient safety implementation and patient satisfaction. This indicates that improving the quality of patient safety implementation can directly increase patient satisfaction during hospitalization. These findings emphasize the importance of consistent safety strategies and patient-centered nursing services. Hospitals are advised to continue to strengthen patient safety culture through regular training, a transparent incident reporting system, and oversight of standard operating procedures. In addition, management involvement in fostering a work climate that supports safety is needed. The use of information technology in safety reporting and monitoring can also speed up risk identification and follow-up. By prioritizing the principles of prudence and effective communication between medical personnel, the quality of service can be improved comprehensively. This study also implies that efforts to improve safety not only have an impact on reducing medical risks, but also on increasing patients' positive perceptions of hospital services. Periodic evaluations, patient education, and active involvement in medical decision-making are important factors in maintaining and improving the quality of safe, effective, and satisfactory health services.

Abstract

Back pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint among pregnant women, particularly in the second and third trimesters. This complaint is caused by anatomical and hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. Given the negative impact that back pain can have on the comfort and quality of life of pregnant women, non-pharmacological interventions are an effective option. One approach that has proven beneficial is Prenatal Yoga, which can help reduce back pain and improve maternal comfort. This Community Service Program (KKN) aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in Pademonegoro Village, Sukodono District, Sidoarjo, in performing Prenatal Yoga movements as a participatory, promotive effort. The methods used in this activity included educational counseling, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice of safe yoga movements for pregnant women. This activity was designed to help pregnant women understand and apply yoga movements appropriate to their physical conditions during pregnancy. Evaluation conducted after the activity showed encouraging results. 85% of participants understood the material presented, while 90% were able to imitate the main Prenatal Yoga movements, namely the cat-cow pose and pelvic tilts. This second movement is known to be effective in reducing back tension and increasing body comfort. The evaluation results indicate that a practice-based educational approach can improve pregnant women's understanding and equip them with the skills to perform yoga independently at home. This program not only contributes to improving maternal health but also supports a promotive approach within the community. By providing the appropriate knowledge and skills, pregnant women can become more independent in maintaining their health during pregnancy, thereby improving their quality of life and supporting a smoother delivery.

Abstract

This article presents a critical analysis of the role of academics as judges in the 2025 Cilacap Regency Regional Innovation Competition (LINDA), focusing on the health sector. The study details the judging mechanism, which took place in two stages: an administrative selection to ensure completeness and suitability of documents, and a presentation assessment that explored the innovations' substance, sustainability, and potential for replication. Field observations revealed a wide variety of proposed innovations, ranging from the use of information technology for health services, village health cadre empowerment programs, to cross-sector partnership models. These innovations have been shown to have a significant impact on service efficiency, increased access, and strengthened community participation in maintaining health. However, various challenges remain, including limited competent human resources, minimal sustainable funding, and suboptimal supporting information systems. This analysis places these innovations within the framework of national innovation policy and compares them with good practices from case studies such as PUSTAKA and Mobile JKN, which serve as references for measuring the relevance, scalability, and sustainability of innovations at the regional level. The jury's role is positioned not merely as an assessor, but also as a mentor, facilitator, and validator of science-based innovative solutions. The involvement of academics in this process is a form of community service that has a direct impact on improving the quality of public policy, while strengthening the culture of innovation within local government. The findings of this study confirm that the active involvement of the jury can provide valuable empirical input for formulating strategies for developing regional health innovations.

Abstract

Ports serve as strategic entry points with a high potential for the transmission of infectious diseases and outbreaks, thus requiring the effective implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by port health officers. This community service activity aims to provide SOP education for officers to prevent potential outbreaks at ports, based on the latest literature review. The method used involves delivering educational sessions supplemented by discussions drawn from various academic sources, government regulations, and technical guidelines relevant to the 2011–2024 publication period. These include Minister of Health Regulation No. 2348/2011, Ministerial Decrees from 2015–2023, and scientific publications related to outbreak prevention at ports. The results indicate that comprehensive SOP education encompasses seven key components: understanding the strategic role of ports in border control, mastery of the officers’ multidimensional tasks, outbreak surveillance and control components, effective health information communication methods, the central role of health personnel as educators, integration with the national health system, and continuous evaluation of the educational program. The discussion highlights that the success of SOP implementation is highly dependent on the quality of education provided to the officers, with an emphasis on ongoing training, emergency simulations, and cross-sector coordination. Optimal SOP education will enhance officers’ preparedness to detect, prevent, and control potential outbreaks, enabling ports to function as effective barriers in protecting public health from infectious disease threats, in line with Indonesia’s commitment to the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005.

Abstract

Several toddlers in Indonesia face developmental challenges, including delays in fine and gross motor skills, hearing impairments, speech delays, and cognitive issues. One of the main factors contributing to these problems is the limited ability of families to provide the proper stimulation needed for child development. In this context, the role of Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (Posyandu) cadres becomes essential. Cadres with good skills, high motivation, and consistent enthusiasm are needed to support the success of the Posyandu program, especially in early childhood developmental screening. This community service activity was designed to provide basic training for Posyandu cadres, with a primary focus on enhancing their ability to stimulate and detect early signs of developmental delays in children. The training was held on May 4, 2025, at the Mu'thi Jaya Indonesia Foundation Meeting Room and attended by 30 Posyandu cadres. An evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-test questionnaires to assess the knowledge and skills of the participants before and after the training. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in the cadres' knowledge and skills related to early detection and stimulation of child development. Data analysis revealed a p-value of 0.074, indicating a substantial increase in understanding after the training. However, continuous support is necessary to ensure that early detection practices and child stimulation continue to be implemented effectively in the field. Routine monitoring and evaluation are also crucial to assess the long-term impact of this program on children's development in the community, as well as to ensure that the Posyandu program continues to function effectively in supporting the growth and development of children, particularly during the critical early years of life.
