Abstract

The high incidence of outbreaks of snack poisoning among elementary school students in 2024 reflects the impact of systemic problems in Indonesia's educational environment. Increasing students' knowledge at school is one of the important steps to empower them to choose safe and healthy snacks for consumption. The health literacy activity through snakes and ladders game at SDN Jatinangor aims to improve students' health literacy regarding the importance of choosing safe and healthy snacks. This game is a refinement of Literaga 1.0 which was previously tested and successfully increased students' knowledge of a clean and healthy lifestyle in 2023. The activity involved 35 Padjadjaran University students as facilitators and 89 Jatinangor Elementary School students. The method used was game-based learning, which integrates learning about healthy eating patterns in a game format. Evaluation results using pre-test and post-test showed a significant increase in student knowledge (t Stat = -22.38, P-value <0.05). These results indicate that the Literaga 2.0 educational game board is effective in increasing students' knowledge about safe and healthy snacks. In the future, further support from schools and families is needed to provide safe and healthy food/snack alternatives for school students.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition when hemoglobin levels are below normal, disrupting the oxygen supply to body tissues. This study aims to determine the effect of chicken egg and citrus fruit consumption on hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with mild to moderate anemia at SMAN Darmaraja in 2025. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 30 adolescent girls who had hemoglobin levels between 8–11.9 g/dL were divided into treatment and control groups. The intervention was in the form of giving boiled chicken eggs and citrus fruit for six consecutive days. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significant increase in hemoglobin levels in the treatment group, while the control group did not experience significant changes. The Mann-Whitney test also showed a significant difference between the two groups after treatment. These results prove that consumption of chicken eggs and citrus fruit has a positive effect on increasing hemoglobin levels. The protein, iron, and vitamin content in both ingredients play an important role in improving hemoglobin levels. The implications of this study indicate that this simple food combination can be an alternative non-pharmacological nutritional therapy for adolescent girls with anemia..

Abstract

During pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester, anatomical and physiological changes occur that lead to both physical and psychological discomforts, such as sleep disturbances and anxiety before childbirth. Anxiety is a normal response in the adaptation process, characterized by feelings of worry or uneasiness about uncertain outcomes. If left unaddressed, anxiety can trigger depression. One non-pharmacological method to reduce anxiety is aromatherapy, a therapeutic approach using essential oils known for their calming effects and ability to improve physical and psychological well-being. Essential oils possess various pharmacological properties, including antibacterial, sedative, and vasodilator effects. However, interviews revealed that the community especially pregnant women has not yet utilized natural remedies such as aromatherapy to manage pregnancy discomforts. Through community service activities, educational sessions and demonstrations were conducted on the benefits of aromatherapy in reducing anxiety before childbirth in third-trimester pregnant women. The results showed an increase in health cadres' knowledge. Prior to the intervention, only 35% of cadres had good knowledge, which increased to 65% after the intervention. Meanwhile, those with poor knowledge decreased from 40% to 10%. This indicates that educational sessions effectively enhanced understanding of the use of aromatherapy for pregnant women.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of obesity education videos on knowledge and attitudes towards obesity and their effectiveness in non health workers at Dr. Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta. The research method used was quasi experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The intervention test was carried out by giving obesity education videos to the intervention group. The results showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group after giving obesity educational videos (p = 0.000), while in the control group there was no significant change (p = 0.083). However, in the aspect of attitude, both intervention and control groups did not show significant changes (p> 0.05). This shows that educational videos are effective in increasing knowledge, but do not significantly affect changes in attitudes towards obesity. The conclusion of this study is that educational videos can be used as an effective medium in delivering health information to improve knowledge, but to achieve attitude improvement, comprehensive methods are needed, including social interaction and direct experience

Abstract

The participation of women today is not limited to demanding equal rights, but also demonstrating their functional significance in contributing to societal development in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the influence of training Mindfulness-based stress reduction on stress levels among female task force members in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research employed a non-equivalent control group design. The participants consisted of 10 women assigned to the Yogyakarta task force, divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received an intervention in the form of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, while the control group received no intervention. The instrument used to measure stress levels was the Perceived Stress Scale-10, which had a reliability of 0.83. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results indicated a significant difference in stress levels between the experimental group and the control group, with Z = -2.627 and p = 0.009 (p < 0.005). Additionally, there was a significant difference in stress scores within the experimental group before and after the MBSR intervention, with Z = -2.041 and p = 0.041 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction has a significant effect in reducing stress levels among female task force members in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, thereby helping them to manage their stress more effectively in daily life.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer experienced by women in Indonesia, with incidence rates continuing to rise. Early detection through the IVA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) test is a crucial step in reducing mortality rates from this disease. The aim of this activity was to educate the community about early detection of cervical cancer through IVA testing and to improve participants' knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of routine screening as a preventive measure against cervical cancer. This community service activity was conducted on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Buay Nyerupa Public Health Center, involving 20 participants. The activity sought to raise public awareness about the importance of early detection of cervical cancer through the IVA test. The program began with an educational session for participants about early symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of early detection of cervical cancer. Following the educational session, participants underwent IVA testing, conducted directly by healthcare professionals. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge. Before the educational session, out of 20 participants, 40% had poor knowledge, 35% had moderate knowledge, and 25% had good knowledge. However, after the educational session, 40% of respondents had moderate knowledge, and 60% had good knowledge. This indicates that after the education, there were no respondents with poor knowledge. It is hoped that this activity will continue to expand its reach and improve reproductive health in the community. Additionally, regular IVA screening can be conducted.

Abstract

Lung health plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic functions and individual productivity, particularly during adulthood. Undetected pulmonary dysfunction may significantly reduce work capacity and overall quality of life. This community service initiative aimed to conduct early screening of lung function using spirometry among the adult population at Asisi Church, South Jakarta. The program was implemented through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle, involving health education, spirometry assessment, result evaluation, and the provision of medical follow-up advice. A total of 62 participants took part in the activity. The spirometric examination revealed average values of vital capacity (VC) at 69.53%, FVC at 61.58%, FEV1 at 68.69%, and FEV1% at 114.13%. All participants were classified as “normal/at risk,” indicating a need for continued monitoring despite the absence of clinical symptoms. This program highlights the importance of early detection of pulmonary dysfunction and the critical role of health education in preventing chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD. Through collaborative efforts between academic institutions and the local community, this initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of community-based preventive strategies in raising awareness of lung health and encouraging healthy lifestyle practices for sustainable quality of life. Abstract

Fine motor skills are one of the crucial dimensions in child development, playing a significant role in supporting various basic daily activities such as writing, drawing, and using cutting tools (e.g., scissors). However, various data indicate that a considerable number of preschool children experience delays in developing this aspect. This study aims to examine the effect of paper folding activities (origami) on enhancing fine motor skills in preschool children aged 4–5 years at TK Muslimat NU 11 Malang. The study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest model. A total of 20 participants were selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection instrument used was an observation sheet developed based on fine motor skill development indicators. The analysis using the Wilcoxon test revealed a statistically significant difference after the origami game intervention was applied (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Prior to the intervention, the majority of participants were in the "Starting to Develop" category (70%), while after the intervention, 50% of the children had progressed to the "Developing Very Well" category and 40% to the "Developing as Expected" category. Therefore, it can be concluded that origami play activities are highly effective in stimulating the development of fine motor skills in preschool-aged children.

Abstract

Free association among adolescents is often interpreted as social interaction that is no longer controlled by religious, social, and cultural norms. It can take the form of free sex, alcohol use, smoking, and drug abuse. This not only has an impact on the physical and psychological aspects of adolescents, but also increases the risk of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Juvenile delinquency often occurs due to association, unhealthy friendships, lack of attention from the family supporting the occurrence of this delinquency. There are many forms of juvenile delinquency, such as drug abuse, free sex behavior. To prevent juvenile delinquency, it is necessary to provide knowledge about this theme. Knowledge can be obtained formally or informally. Informal knowledge can be provided through several methods such as counseling. This activity has succeeded in equipping adolescents with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to stay away from drugs and HIV. An approach that involves active participation and creativity has proven effective in building productive adolescent character. Continued collaboration between schools, families, and communities is needed to support the sustainability of the program.
