Abstract

Abstract

The rise of global value chains (GVCs) has made the relationship between exchange rates and exports difficult to predict. The increased of imported raw materials used in production due to GVC causes disconnection between exchange rates and exports. However, global financial crisis (GFC) that occurred in 2007-2009 has caused trade patterns shifted from GVC to regional value chains (RVC). Using panel fixed effects method, this study analyzes the effects of GVC and RVC on the export elasticities to exports in the European Union and ASEAN in the pre and post GFC period. The results show that GVC has a significant effect on the relationship between exchange rates and exports in the European Union in both periods. Meanwhile, RVC only has a significant effect in the period after the GFC. These results indicate a shift from GVC to RVC in the European Union. On the other hand, neither GVC nor RVC had a significant effect in ASEAN in both periods.

Abstract

The downstream policy for several industries in Indonesia is articulated in the 2020-2024 RPJMN, which outlines plans for each area to develop leading commodities. This study aims to determine the predominant industries downstream of the primary sector in Papua Island. This study utilizes the 2016 Indonesian Inter-Regional Input Output (IRIO) Table issued by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as its data and models. The primary industries can be determined by computing the backward linkage index and the forward linkage index. The study's findings indicate that the predominant sector in Papua Island is the fisheries industry. The analysis reveals that the fisheries sector possesses both backward and forward linkage indices exceeding one. This signifies that the fishing sector significantly influences the advancement of other businesses that utilize its products as inputs. The fisheries business extensively employs outputs from various other industries as inputs for its operations.

Abstract

This study examines the key determinants of crude death rates (CDR) in selected Countries within Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, emphasising statistical correlations, policy implications, and regional disparities. Using econometric analysis, the study finds that increased life expectancy, higher government healthcare expenditure, and GDP per capita growth significantly reduce mortality rates. Labour force participation and access to potable water further influence mortality trends. However, African and some Asian nations experience higher CDRs due to weak healthcare infrastructure and economic constraints. The findings underscore the need for sustained investment in healthcare systems, human capital development, and policy-driven interventions to mitigate mortality risks and improve public health. This study provides empirical evidence to guide policymakers in designing targeted health policies that enhance healthcare equity and long-term health outcomes.

Abstract

This study seeks evidence of whether the issuance of green bonds can affect carbon emissions in developed and developing countries. Identifying this link is crucial in reducing emissions and mitigating climate change. However, empirical evidence on the impact of green bonds is often limited because the data year series covers only a few years. Using the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM), the analysis in this study covered dynamic data from 16 countries between 2016 and 2021. The finding shows that the issuance of green bonds significantly impacted carbon emissions in both developed and developing countries. The more green bonds issued, the lower the carbon emissions. The results also show that green bond issuance in developed and developing countries differs. In developed countries, large investment-class issuers within the banking sector primarily benefit from greenium linked to green bonds. Meanwhile, developing countries face barriers to green bond development, including a lack of proper institutional arrangements, minimum volume requirements, and high transaction costs. Aside from addressing these barriers, the government must focus on improving facilities and infrastructure to increase the impact of issuing green bonds in order to transition to a green economy

Abstract

Poverty alleviation requires a sustainable multidimensional strategy encompassing empowerment, welfare, and investment. This study applies the Analytic Network Process (ANP) to evaluate poverty reduction strategies in Tasikmalaya City, Indonesia. Data were collected through pairwise comparisons from experts and analyzed using the SuperDecisions software. The results indicate that Entrepreneurship Empowerment is the top priority (34.7%), followed by Social Security (29.0%), Regional Investment (24.8%), and Provision of Basic Needs (11.5%). Sensitivity analysis confirms the consistency of results, where empowerment remains dominant under various parameter scenarios. The novelty of this study lies in integrating empowerment and welfare strategies with contextual sub-criteria in a city-level ANP model. These findings support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 1) and emphasize empowerment as the foundation for sustainable poverty alleviation in Indonesia.
