Abstract

This study discusses self-acceptance in female correctional inmates (WBP) in the Kebumen Class IIB State Prison. Self-acceptance is an important factor that affects the mental and emotional well-being of women, especially in the face of social stigma, loss of freedom, and psychological pressure during the detention period. This study uses qualitative methods to explore factors that affect self-acceptance, such as social support, psychological conditions, and self-confidence. The study results show that social support from family, fellow inmates, and correctional officers plays a significant role in forming better self-acceptance. In addition, the age and duration of the sentence also affect a person's level of self-acceptance. Some WBPs, especially those new to detention, still have difficulty accepting their condition. Therefore, rehabilitation programs that strengthen psychological and social aspects are essential to help WBPs develop better self-acceptance.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of spiritual crises among university students, coupled with the limited accessibility of Islamic counseling services, calls for innovative technological solutions. This study explores the development of an Islamic counseling chatbot utilizing Natural Language Processing (NLP) for early detection of spiritual crises in Muslim students. It analysing the conceptual framework, technical requirements, and implementation strategies for developing an NLP-based Islamic counseling chatbot system for early spiritual crisis detection. This qualitative research employs a systematic literature review approach, analysing 127 relevant publications from 2018 to 2024 sourced from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Islamic databases. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 to identify key themes and patterns. Five core themes emerged: (1) Technological architecture integrating Islamic principles with NLP algorithms, (2) Specific indicators of spiritual crisis among Muslim students, (3) Culturally sensitive conversational patterns, (4) Ethical considerations in AI-assisted Islamic counseling, and (5) Implementation challenges and solutions. The proposed chatbot framework incorporates Qur’anic verses, hadith references, and Islamic psychology concepts into machine learning algorithms. The NLP-based Islamic counseling chatbot demonstrates significant potential for early detection and intervention in spiritual crises among university students. However, successful implementation requires careful consideration of Islamic ethics, cultural sensitivity, and technical resilience.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of Islamic psychopedagogical counseling to overcome student learning issues, including test anxiety and difficulty controlling learning routines, in Islamic-based private high schools. Data were gathered using qualitative case study methodologies, which included interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings revealed that counselors employed spiritually integrated psychopedagogical strategies such as psychopedagogy, guided reflection, dzikr practice, prophetic tales, and reflective activities (muhasabah). This approach aided in spiritual reframing, allowing pupils to see scholastic difficulties as part of tarbiyah ruhaniyah rather than as proof of failure. As a consequence, students' attitudes about learning improved, including lower academic anxiety, more emotional control, and increased learning engagement. Despite the cultural taboo associated with counseling services, contextual strategies received initial good responses. This study highlights Islamic psychopedagogical counseling as a contextually relevant framework for supporting student learning experiences in Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in-depth individual experiences utilizing the practice of dhikr (remembrance of God) as a spiritual and holistic method for managing anxiety. Using a qualitative approach and a phenomenological design, this research focuses on the subjective meanings and cognitive, emotional, and physical changes experienced by subjects in response to regular dhikr practice. The study involved individuals aged 18 to 50 who experienced mild to moderate anxiety and had been practicing dhikr regularly for at least six months. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and reflective journals. Interpretive thematic data analysis revealed that dhikr functions as a spiritually integrated coping mechanism and results in a transformation of the experience of anxiety across three domains. Cognitively, dhikr is experienced as a "cognitive barrier" that consciously shifts the focus of attention from excessive anxious thoughts to an awareness of the Greatness of Allah Swt. Physiologically and emotionally, participants reported that the regular breathing pattern and rhythm of dhikr created a calming (relaxing) effect that connected them to a sense of thuma'ninah (deep inner calm), while simultaneously alleviating physical symptoms of anxiety (such as rapid heartbeat and muscle tension). Behaviorally and spiritually, dhikr was interpreted as a significant adaptive spiritual management tool. This practice strengthened spiritual fortitude and fostered self-confidence as participants felt divine "help" and support, making them feel more empowered in facing life's challenges.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of stress and depression in modern society poses a serious challenge to mental health, particularly amid the complexity of social pressure and rapid lifestyle changes. In this context, Islamic spirituality offers a coping dimension that is not only psychological but also transcendental, grounded in values of iman (faith), sabr (patience), shukr (gratitude), and tawakkal (trust in God). This study aims to examine the role of Islamic spirituality as an adaptive coping mechanism for stress and depression using a qualitative-descriptive approach. Data were collected through a literature review and in-depth interviews with individuals who regularly engage in spiritual practices such as dzikrullah (remembrance of God), night prayer (qiyam al-layl), and Qur’anic recitation. The findings reveal that Islamic spirituality significantly enhances self-acceptance, gratitude, and inner peace, thereby fostering emotional resilience and reducing psychological distress. These spiritual values help individuals reinterpret life’s pressures positively and maintain mental balance through faith-based awareness. The study further contributes to the development of Islamic Counseling Practice by providing an evidence-based framework for integrating spiritual coping techniques, such as dzikrullah, sabr, and tawakkal, into therapeutic interventions aimed at strengthening Muslim clients’ mental well-being.

Abstract

Gunungkidul Regency is one of the regions in Indonesia known to have a relatively high rate of suicide, with a tendency for individuals who have previously attempted suicide to be at significant risk of repeating the behavior. This study aims to explore the role of social support systems in preventing the recurrence of suicide attempts among individuals who have previously attempted suicide. The study employed a qualitative approach involving five respondents, all of whom had a history of suicide attempts and were in a recovery phase at the time of the research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that all respondents consistently identified social support—particularly from family, peers, and the community—as a key factor in sustaining their will to live and reducing the urge to repeat suicidal behavior. Social support operates through mechanisms such as strengthening life meaning, reducing social isolation, and enhancing a sense of belonging and social connectedness. These findings underscore the importance of family- and community-based suicide prevention approaches in socially vulnerable areas such as Gunungkidul.

Abstract

Conventional carceral rehabilitation frameworks often prioritize institutional discipline and vocational skills while marginalizing the spiritual dimension, despite inmates frequently experiencing existential crises, loss of self-concept, and severe carceral stress. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the structured spiritual guidance program at the Class IIB Kebumen State Detention Center, its challenges, and its impact on inmate character building. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered via participant observation, documentary reviews, and semi-structured in-depth interviews with five purposively selected key informants, including institutional authorities, external religious mentors, and active inmates. Data trustworthiness was established through technical and source triangulation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings demonstrate that the detention center has systematically integrated a structured spiritual curriculum—including communal sermons, collective dhikr, and Quranic literacy—by forging strategic partnerships with external religious and academic bodies. Operationalized through planning, execution, and monitoring phases, the program utilizes an adaptive, tripartite approach (individual, group, and collaborative) that accommodates diverse inmate backgrounds. Active participation in the program successfully catalyzes positive behavioral modification, enhances emotional regulation, and reconstructs a resilient, prosocial self-concept, thereby elevating inmates' psychological readiness for social reintegration. However, long-term efficacy is hindered by systemic bottlenecks, including fragmented scheduling, varying baseline religious literacy, and a lack of integrated curricular alignment with vocational tracks. This study concludes that a collaborative, multi-dimensional ecosystem combining institutional support, staff engagement, and inmate motivation is paramount to sustaining faith-based correctional rehabilitation.

Abstract

Indonesia is undergoing a rapid demographic transition toward an aged society, shifting the long-term caregiving burden heavily onto the informal family structure. Within the local sociocultural context of filial piety, the family is the primary pillar of eldercare. However, modern socioeconomic pressures have eroded domestic capacities, trapping productive-age individuals within a highly stressful dual-obligation matrix known as the "Sandwich Generation." This study aims to evaluate the multidimensional caregiver burden experienced by the Indonesian sandwich generation and explore the effectiveness of transforming the Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) [Family Development for the Elderly] program through digitalized, contextual social counseling interventions. Operating as a systematic literature review and qualitative metasynthesis, this study comprehensively analyzed empirical, peer-reviewed literature (n = 25) published between 2015 and 2025. Data selection strictly followed the PRISMA protocol, extracting variables linked to family support, caregiver burden (via the Zarit Burden Interview framework), and social work counseling models. The synthesis demonstrates a critical geriatric competence gap within households. Traditional top-down medical interventions routinely fail because they ignore the caregiver's psychosocial ecosystem. Applying the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), this study reveals that digitalizing social counseling (e.g., via asynchronous psychoeducational platforms and interactive peer support groups) effectively bypasses caregiver time poverty, reduces social isolation, and significantly lowers perceived caregiver burden scores. Social counseling acts as a transformative mechanism that shifts the family’s role from a passive, overwhelmed shelter into a highly competent, resilient support system. To sustain this framework, macro-level policy adjustments are urgently required, including the institutionalization of community-based respite care, targeted fiscal incentives for low-income caregiving households, and the structural revitalization of the BKL curriculum to incorporate stress management and digital health literacy.

Abstract

Generation Z faces unprecedented psychological stress driven by complex academic and professional demands in a fast-paced digital era. Consequently, modern self-care strategies are vital to safeguard their mental health. This study aims to investigate how Generation Z utilizes self-reward as a contemporary self-care strategy to enhance their psychological well-being. Employing a qualitative case study design, this research examined two distinct Generation Z subjects within the same urban area: a university student (MS) and an employed professional (AS). Data were systematically analyzed using the interactive qualitative model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that self-reward modalities are highly contextual and phase-dependent. MS applies spontaneous, short-term rewards (e.g., entertainment, casual dining) as an immediate coping mechanism against academic burnout. Conversely, AS adopts structured, reflective rewards (e.g., travel, self-development workshops) to establish professional boundaries and maintain emotional stability. When practiced mindfully, self-reward effectively satisfies the core psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, thereby reinforcing environmental mastery and self-acceptance. However, without self-regulation, it risks devolving into destructive consumptive behavior and task procrastination. This study concludes that mindful and proportional self-reward serves as a resilient, adaptive mechanism that harmonizes productivity with sustainable psychological well-being for the digital generation.
