Abstract

This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the AlveMint gel preparation containing Aloe vera powder and menthol for relieving pain and breast swelling in postpartum mothers with milk engorgement. The gel was prepared using five formulas with variations in Aloe vera concentration: F0 (0%), F1 (0.25%), F2 (0.5%), F3 (0.75%), and F4 (1%), combined with menthol (0.5%) as an active cooling agent. The preparation process included heating, mixing, and homogenization, followed by the addition of preservative and pH adjustment. The formulated gels were evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, stability, and irritation. All gel formulations exhibited white color, menthol aroma, and semi-solid consistency. The gels were homogeneous, with pH values ranging from 5.1 to 5.5, fulfilling the acceptable skin pH range (4.5–6.5). The spreadability values were between 5.9 and 6.6 cm, meeting the semi-solid dosage form requirements (5–7 cm). No irritation reactions were observed among 15 human volunteers during patch testing. The presence of menthol provided a cooling sensation, enhancing comfort during application. Increasing concentrations of Aloe vera slightly decreased pH values but did not affect the gel’s stability or homogeneity. In conclusion, the AlveMint gel formulation containing Aloe vera and menthol demonstrated good physical properties, acceptable skin compatibility, and potential for use as a topical preparation to alleviate breast engorgement symptoms in postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are a vulnerable group to reproductive health problems, one of which is caused by low knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene management. Video media was chosen as a health education tool because it combines visual and audio elements that attract attention, match adolescent characteristics, and facilitate comprehension of the material. This study aimed to determine the effect of video-based health education on adolescent girls' knowledge of menstrual hygiene management at SMPN 63 Batam. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design of the one-group pretest-posttest type. The sample consisted of 46 seventh-grade students who had experienced menstruation, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included a 14-item true-false menstrual hygiene management knowledge questionnaire and a 10-minute educational video. Data were collected through a pre-test before the intervention and a post-test after the intervention, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon nonparametric test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents were in the low knowledge category (54,3%), whereas after the intervention, the majority improved to the good category (91.3%). A p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) indicated a significant difference in knowledge before and after the intervention. In conclusion, video-based health education was effective in improving adolescent girls knowledge of menstrual hygiene management. It is recommended that schools utilize video media as an interactive and appropriate health education method tailored to the needs of adolescents.

Abstract

The aging process experienced by the elderly causes problems in their physical, mental, and behavioral development. The physical ability of the elderly decreases with age, which causes problems with decreased cognitive function in the elderly. One of the interventions that can be done in the elderly to stop the decline in cognitive function is Crossword Puzzle Therapy (CPT) which can improve cognitive ability, improve memory, and improve comprehension. To determine the effect of Crossword Puzzle Therapy (CPT) on the cognitive function of the elderly in the Working Area of the Tanjung Unggat Health Center, Tanjungpinang City. The research method used quasy experimental design with the One Groups PretestPosttest Design approach. The sample in the study was 33 elderly people who were treated at the Tanjung Unggat Health Center in Tanjungpinang City and the sampling technique was a purposive sampling technique. This study uses a normality test with a sig. > 0.005 and continued with a non- parametric test, namely the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study are known to have a P value which shows a number of 0.000 which means that the significant value is < 0.05 value so that Crossword Puzzle Therapy (CPT) on cognitive function has a significant influence, namely H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. There is an effect of Crossword Puzzle Therapy (CPT) on cognitive function in the working area of the Tanjungunggat Health Center in Tanjungpinang City with a P value of 0.000. it is hoped that the health center can apply Crossword Puzzle Therapy (CPT) in improving the quality of health of the elderly, especially in handling the cognitive function of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, beginning at the onset of puberty and continuing until maturity is reached. The use of smartphones can have both positive and negative impacts on teenagers. On the positive side, teenagers have access to resources for learning, the ability to communicate remotely, and the opportunity to learn online. On the other hand, they may experience a decrease in physical activity, which can lead to laziness in studying, eye strain, and disturbances in sleep quality. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone usage intensity and sleep quality among 10th and 11th grade students at SMAN 1 Kramatwatu. Method: This research employs a quantitative study design with a cross-sectional approach involving 261 respondents from SMAN 1 Kramatwatu. There are a total of 592 students in 10th and 11th grades, with 300 students in 10th grade and 292 students in 11th grade. The sampling method used is probability sampling, specifically simple random sampling. Respondents from each class were selected using the Stratified Random Sampling formula. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. Result: The univariate analysis revealed that the majority of respondents were in mid-adolescence, totaling 233 respondents (85.4%). Based on gender, most respondents were male, totaling 177 respondents (67.8%). The chi-square test analysis indicated a statistically significant relationship between smartphone usage intensity and sleep quality among adolescents, with a P value of 0.000. Abstract

Abstract. Tuberculosis remains a major global health problem and continues to be one of the leading causes of death from infectious diseases, even in developed countries. The administration of anti-tuberculosis drugs (OAT) is divided into two phases: the initial phase and the continuation phase. However, the use of OAT is not without side effects, as its duration of use may influence blood glucose levels. This study aimed to examine differences in blood glucose levels among tuberculosis patients undergoing the initial and continuation phases of treatment at X Hospital in Tangerang City. A comparative study design was employed to compare two groups with distinct treatment phases. Samples were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 30 participants: 15 in the initial phase and 15 in the continuation phase. Fasting blood glucose levels were measured using the POCT method, and data were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test. The percentage of abnormal fasting blood glucose results in the initial treatment group was 27%, compared to 67% in the continuation group. Based on the Mann-Whitney test, a p-value of 0.006 was obtained (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in blood glucose levels between tuberculosis patients in the initial and continuation phases of treatment

Abstract

Vaginal discharge (leucorrhea) is a common condition in women and may be physiological or pathological. Pathological leucorrhea often results from infections caused by microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria, associated with poor genital hygiene. This study aimed to isolate and identify the microorganisms causing leucorrhea symptoms in the urine of female students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Banten, emphasizing its relevance to preventive health efforts through cross-professional collaboration in microbiology and reproductive health. Twenty urine samples from second-year students showing premenstrual leucorrhea symptoms were collected using purposive sampling. Laboratory analyses included fungal culture on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), germ tube testing for Candida albicans, bacterial culture on Nutrient Agar (NA), catalase testing, and Gram staining. The results showed that 7 samples (35%) were positive for Candida albicans and 2 samples (10%) were positive for Staphylococcus aureus. Both organisms are recognized as causative agents of pathological leucorrhea and reproductive tract infections. The findings highlight the importance of maintaining genital hygiene and the integration of microbiological screening into health education to prevent infections related to women’s reproductive health. This study underscores the role of interprofessional collaboration in laboratory science and health education for early detection and management of infection-related conditions, contributing to the prevention of non-communicable complications through integrated health services.
