Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and is known as a silent killer. It is a major health problem due to its role as a risk factor for stroke and heart disease in the elderly. In Bengkulu City, the prevalence of hypertension is considered high, with 261,621 individuals diagnosed according to the 2022 Health Office data. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of ergonomic exercise and alternate nostril breathing exercise on reducing blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension at the Lingkar Timur Public Health Center, Bengkulu City. Method: This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, using a pre-post test design with intervention group. A total of 43 participants were selected using random sampling based on inclusion criteria: aged 55–65 years with blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg. Instrument reliability was tested by conducting two blood pressure measurements. Results: The results showed a significant difference in the average systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the intervention on blood pressure reduction. Conclusion: Ergonomic exercise and alternate nostril breathing exercise are effective in lowering blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. These interventions can be applied independently by the elderly as a non-pharmacological effort to control blood pressure.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Breast milk is the primary source of essential nutrients for infant growth and development, while also functioning as a natural antibody that strengthens the immune system. The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. However, breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia remains below the national target of 80%, with Kaliwungu Subdistrict, Kudus Regency, reporting a low coverage of only 34.9%. One factor influencing breastfeeding behavior is maternal self-efficacy, which refers to a mother’s confidence in her ability to breastfeed. Self-efficacy may be affected by employment status, as working mothers often face challenges such as limited time, insufficient lactation facilities, and lack of workplace support, all of which may reduce confidence in exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal employment and self-efficacy in breastfeeding among mothers in Kedungdowo Village, Kaliwungu Subdistrict, Kudus Regency. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 46 breastfeeding mothers with children aged 0–2 years, selected through stratified random sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale–Short Form (BSES-SF). Statistical analysis was performed using the Pearson Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The bivariate analysis showed a p-value of 0.223, which was higher than the significance level (α < 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between maternal employment and breastfeeding self-efficacy. The findings suggest that both formally and informally employed mothers have comparable levels of breastfeeding self-efficacy. Conclusion: Maternal employment is not the sole factor determining self-efficacy in breastfeeding. Other factors such as knowledge, social support, and prior breastfeeding experience may play more significant roles in influencing mothers’ confidence in breastfeeding.

Abstract

Hypertension during pregnancy is a common obstetric complication and a major contributor to both maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to identify factors affecting the occurrence of hypertension in pregnancy within the Pasar Ikan Community Health Center’s service area. Employing an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, the study involved 50 pregnant women in their first and second trimesters, selected through total sampling. The findings revealed that 32% of the participants experienced hypertension during pregnancy. Significant correlations were found between maternal age and hypertension, as well as between caffeine intake and hypertension occurrence. Conversely, gravidity showed no significant relationship with hypertension incidence. Caffeine consumption emerged as the most influential factor, with a sevenfold greater impact compared to other variables. It is advised to enhance educational efforts targeting pregnant women about their consumption habits and the associated hypertension risks.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases that can be influenced by lifestyle and dietary patterns, including the consumption of herbs or spices. This study aims to determine the effect of administering herbal drink decoctions on total cholesterol levels and random blood glucose in patients with hypercholesterolemia. This study uses a Quasi-Experiment method with control and treatment groups design. The research subjects were divided into two groups: one group received the herbal drink decoction and the control group received no treatment. The parameters measured were total cholesterol levels and random blood glucose through laboratory tests before and after the treatment. The results of this study showed that the average cholesterol level in the treatment group before the intervention was 220 mg/dL, and after the intervention to 210 mg/dL. The results of total cholesterol levels in the control group before the intervention amounted to 173 mg/dL, for after the intervention to 185 mg/dL. The results for blood glucose levels in the treatment group before the intervention were 92 mg/dL and after the intervention to 97 mg/dL. Then for the results of temporary blood glucose levels in the control group before the intervention amounted to 88 mg/dL and after the intervention amounted to 90 mg/dL).The results of the statistical tests showed that H0 was accepted, which means there was no significant effect of administering herbal drink decoctions on total cholesterol levels and random blood glucose. Thus, the herbal drink infusion was not proven effective in lowering both parameters in patients with hypercholesterolemia. This study was conducted in the Pondok Kacang Barat area.

Abstract

Ketonuria, the presence of ketones in urine, occurs when the body breaks down fat as energy due to a lack of carbohydrates. This process produces ketone bodies (acetone, acetoacetic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid). This condition often occurs in people with tuberculosis (TB) due to decreased appetite and side effects of medications that cause a lack of carbohydrate intake. Tuberculosis is a global infectious disease, where Indonesia has the second highest cases in the world. In Bengkulu City, tuberculosis cases are increasing, with the Telaga Dewa Health Center recording the most cases. Tuberculosis is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis which is airborne and is risky for all ages. This study aims to find out the description of urine ketone in tuberculosis patients at the Telaga Dewa Health Center, Bengkulu City in 2025. The sample in this study was 27 people using the accidental sampling method. The examination was carried out using the rothera method. The results of the distribution of urine ketone frequency in tuberculosis patients were obtained with 15% positive urine ketone and 85% negative urine ketone results. Based on the results of the research on Urinary Ketone, overview in Tuberculosis Patients at the Telaga Dewa Health Center, Bengkulu City in 2025 on 27 samples, the following results were obtained 15% were positive for urinary ketone. The results of this study are expected for the community, especially tuberculosis patients, to maintain good health and diet.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases have shown a changing trend, marked by a continuous increase in morbidity and mortality rates, with stroke being one of the leading causes. Among stroke patients, approximately 21% to 38% experience aphasia, a disorder that affects communication skills, particularly in understanding and expressing language. Effective rehabilitation is crucial to restoring these functions. Two non-pharmacological interventions, Oral Motor Exercise and Semantic Divergent Therapy, have been recognized for their potential to enhance speech ability in stroke survivors. This study aimed to determine the effect of combining Oral Motor Exercise and Semantic Divergent Therapy on improving speech ability in stroke patients. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was used, involving 40 participants selected through purposive sampling. The intervention group received both therapies, while the control group underwent AIUEO therapy. Results showed that the mean speech score of the intervention group increased from 15.40 to 20.85, while the control group's score rose from 15.30 to 19.45. The Independent T-test analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between groups. These findings demonstrate that Oral Motor Exercise combined with Semantic Divergent Therapy effectively enhances speech ability in stroke patients. Therefore, this combined approach is recommended as an effective non-pharmacological rehabilitation intervention to support recovery and improve communication functions after stroke.
