Abstract

Breast engorgement is a frequent postpartum complication that can interfere with breastfeeding and maternal comfort. This study aimed to examine the association between hemoglobin levels, breast milk production, psychological factors (measured by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale/EPDS), and blood group with breast engorgement among postpartum mothers. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 100 postpartum mothers within the first seven days after delivery. Data were collected through clinical examinations, questionnaires, and laboratory tests. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression was applied with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results showed significant associations between breast milk production (p = 0.004) and EPDS scores (p = 0.021) with breast engorgement. Conversely, hemoglobin levels (p = 0.118) and blood group (p = 0.378) were not statistically significant predictors. Mothers with inadequate milk flow and higher EPDS scores were more likely to develop engorgement. The study concludes that breast engorgement is a multifactorial condition influenced by both physiological and psychological elements. This highlights the necessity of integrated postpartum care that includes mental health assessment, anemia screening, and breastfeeding education to improve lactation success.

Abstract

Obesity is an emerging health problem among adolescents and can have long-term health consequences. One innovative approach to improving knowledge and attitudes toward obesity prevention is through the use of educational games. The MOLETAS (Monopoly Obesity) educational media was developed to deliver health messages in an engaging and interactive way. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education using the MOLETAS media on improving knowledge and attitudes toward obesity prevention among adolescents. This research employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 70 students were selected using random sampling in Senior High School 10, Jambi City. Data were collected using validated questionnaires on knowledge and attitudes. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, as the distribution was non-normal according to the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. The results showed a significant increase in the mean knowledge score (P < 0.001; MD = 1.7) and mean attitude score (P < 0.001; MD = 14.09) after the intervention. These findings indicate that the MOLETAS educational media effectively improves students’ knowledge and attitudes toward obesity prevention.

Abstract

Postpartum due to indication of Cephalopelvic Disproportion is an abnormal condition where the size of the mother's pelvis is not proportional to the size of the fetus. Cephalopelvic disproportion is characterized by the fetal head not entering the upper pelvic inlet at 40 weeks of gestation, so a cesarean section must be performed. After a cesarean section, there is severed tissue, which causes pain, and to reduce the pain, a combination of endorphin massage therapy and lavender aromatherapy is performed. The purpose of this scientific paper is to provide an overview of the effect of a combination of endorphin massage therapy and lavender aromatherapy on reducing pain with post-cesarean section indication of cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD). The research method of this paper uses a descriptive case study approach on mothers post-cesarean section. The study was conducted on April 29 - May 1, 2025, at the hospital. The results of the study obtained patient assessment data saying, "Pain: the patient appeared to be grimacing with a diagnosis of acute pain." Actions taken to overcome pain problems include endorphin massage therapy and lavender aromatherapy. The results of the evaluation after being given endorphin massage and lavender aromatherapy for 3 days for 15-20 minutes showed a decrease in pain from a scale of 4 to a scale of 1 when assessed using digital pain mapping (pain quilt). Recommendations for non-pharmacological therapy with endorphin massage and lavender aromatherapy are effective in reducing pain so that it can be applied to post-cesarean section patients

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical phase in a woman’s life cycle and may be accompanied by complications that threaten maternal and fetal health. The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook, known in Indonesia as Buku KIA, functions as both a documentation tool and an educational medium for pregnant women. However, its utilization remains suboptimal, and many mothers still lack adequate knowledge of pregnancy danger signs. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the use of the MCH Handbook and pregnant women's knowledge of danger signs during pregnancy in the Telaga Dewa Health Center area, Bengkulu City, in 2025. A quantitative analytical survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 73 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with a Chi-square test applied at a 95% confidence level. Results showed that 58.9% of respondents used the MCH Handbook, while 41.1% did not. Additionally, 52.1% of respondents demonstrated poor knowledge of pregnancy danger signs. Bivariate analysis confirmed a significant association between MCH Handbook utilization and maternal knowledge (p = 0.000). In conclusion, the MCH Handbook significantly contributes to improving maternal knowledge regarding pregnancy danger signs. Strengthening mothers’ engagement with the handbook and ensuring continuous support from health workers are recommended to optimize its effectiveness.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a harmful type of bacteria. Infectious diseases caused by these bacteria are boils, acne, and skin infection. Sembung leaves (Blumea balsamifera) have secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and steroids that have potential as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Sembung leaves (Blumea balsamifera) with concentrations of 10%, 25%, and 50% against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with the disc method. This type of research is Quasy experimental antibacterial tests carried out by making paper disks that are dripped with extracts with concentrations of 10%, 25%, 50% and to determine the concentration with the greatest inhibitory effect. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Inhibition testing of ethanol extract of Sembung leaf (Blumea balsamifera) was done by disc method. Positive control used chloramphenicol. The results showed the average number of inhibition zones of 10% concentration (11.6) mm, 25% concentration (13.3) mm, 50% concentration (14.6) mm, the positive control produced an inhibition zone of 20 mm categorized as very strong, while the negative control did not form an inhibition zone. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the inhibition at a concentration of 50% gives the greatest inhibitory effect.
