Abstract

Plastic waste and the high unemployment rate among young people remain significant challenges that require innovative and sustainable solutions. This community service program aimed to develop the creativity of students and youth through the utilization of used plastic bags to create decorative flower crafts with economic value. The method employed was Project-Based Learning (PjBL), which actively involved participants in the stages of planning, implementation, and product evaluation. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and simple interviews. The program involved 7 participants who successfully produced 3 decorative flower arrangements made from used plastic bags as the final products of the training. The results showed that participants were able to transform plastic waste into products with aesthetic and economic value. In addition, participants acquired practical skills in plastic waste utilization and improved their understanding of waste management based on the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R). The activity also fostered environmental awareness and entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging participants to view plastic waste as a valuable resource for creative and marketable products. Therefore, the utilization of used plastic bags into decorative flower crafts can serve as an alternative community empowerment strategy that supports plastic waste reduction while promoting the development of the creative economy among young people.

Abstract

Malaria remains a significant public health problem in endemic regions, including Central Sulawesi. School-age children are particularly vulnerable due to outdoor activities and limited knowledge of prevention. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and conduct malaria screening at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi. The methods included health education through lectures, discussions, and leaflets, as well as laboratory examinations using thick and thin blood smears. The activity was conducted on June 20, 2025, involving 30 students as respondents. The results showed that thin blood smear examinations identified 26 students (86.7%) as positive and 4 students (13.3%) as negative, while thick blood smear examinations revealed 27 students (90%) positive and 3 students (10%) negative. The high number of positive cases indicated that malaria remains a serious health problem among students. Abstract

The fish dimsum training program in Kulolu was implemented to improve the utilization of local fish resources and increase economic value through product diversification. The activity involved five community cadres and focused on processing mackerel into nutritious dimsum enriched with vegetables to enhance both sensory quality and nutritional content. The training was conducted through demonstrations followed by hands-on practice, covering ingredient preparation, mixing techniques, shaping, and steaming procedures. The results showed that participants successfully produced 25 pieces of fish dimsum, and all cadres expressed strong interest in developing fish-based home enterprises. These findings are consistent with previous studies demonstrating that training in fish processing can enhance skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial motivation among coastal communities. Overall, the program had a positive impact on participants’ capacities, strengthened local economic potential, and supported national efforts to increase fish consumption. Further program development through training in packaging, digital marketing, and product certification is recommended to expand market opportunities and ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Good nutrition is crucial during the first 1,000 days of life, influencing a child’s physical and cognitive development. In Indonesia, malnutrition—particularly stunting—poses a significant public health problem, with 21.6% of children under five affected in 2022. Stunting leads to long-term consequences such as learning difficulties and reduced productivity, requiring a cross-sectoral approach that involves improving maternal nutrition and healthcare services. This community service program aims to enhance the awareness and skills of parents and healthcare workers in utilizing digital technology for the early detection of nutritional status and stunting risk. The activity employed a quantitative–descriptive design through training sessions, direct observation, and nutritional status assessments conducted before and after the intervention. A total of 31 children under five were evaluated using anthropometric indicators such as weight-for-age (W/A), height-for-age (H/A), and weight-for-height (W/H). The intervention involved training and the implementation of a digital application, which significantly improved the efficiency of data collection and analysis. Findings indicated a 90% improvement in cadres’ digital recording competencies and a reduction in data entry errors from 15% to 2%. Most children demonstrated good nutritional status (67.75%), while 35.48% were classified as mildly stunted and 3.22% as severely stunted. The program’s impact included enhanced data accuracy and increased parental awareness of child growth monitoring. Challenges encountered during implementation included limited internet connectivity and varying participants’ digital literacy. It is recommended that similar programs be conducted regularly with continued mentorship and technical support to ensure sustainability.
