Abstract

Peatland fires in Jambi Province are recurrent, consuming above-ground vegetation and causing large-scale ecosystem damage. Peat ecosystem restoration efforts must begin with rewetting through the construction of canal blocks to inhibit water loss and keep peat soil moist during the dry season. The construction of canal blocks in peatlands has been carried out, including in Jatimulyo Village, Dendang District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. Semi-permanent canal bulkhead structures often break down if the water discharge from upstream is very large so that the bulkhead does not last long. The purpose of this activity was to design a model for strengthening canal bulkheads using endemic vegetation species including pulai, jelutong, and gelam planted on the bulkhead body structure. Endemic vegetation planting was carried out in four canals by planting pulai, gelam, and jelutong seedlings. Each canal was planted with a distance of 50x 50 cm so that there were approximately 74 seedlings planted in each canal bulkhead body. This PKM activity is expected to have an ecological impact on peatlands, especially in Jatimulyo Village, both in the short term to strengthen the canal structure and in the long term to maintain a wet state on peatlands.

Abstract

Cayenne pepper is one type of chili that is widely consumed. The variety of Indonesian cuisine that uses cayenne pepper as a raw material has increased the need for cayenne pepper in Indonesian society. Efforts to increase cayenne pepper production include using superior varieties and through extensification by utilizing suboptimal land. One of the superior cayenne peppers resulting from research by the IBA University team together with the IPB chili consortium is the Bonita IPB cayenne pepper which has received legalization of variety release from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture with Decree number 343/Kpts/SR.130/D/IV/2021 concerning the Issuance of a Registration Mark for Horticultural Plant Varieties Bonita IPB Chili dated April 26, 2021. This cayenne pepper is suitable for development in tidal land. One of the tidal areas that has the potential for the development of Bonita IPB cayenne pepper is located in Banyu Urip Village, Tanjung Lago District. The author's team seeks to provide solutions to the problems of production and marketing of agricultural products by increasing knowledge and capacity as well as improving the community's economy, especially in the Tani Mukti Farmer Group which is the target partner. The implementation method of the activity includes: 1) survei, observation and identification of partner problems, 2) licensing, partner approaches and socialization, 3) training, guidance and assistance, 4) application of technology/creation of demo plots and 5) monitoring and evaluation. The results of the activity have been carried out by making a demo plot on low land owned by Mr. Ponio, a member of the Tani Mukti farmer group located in Banyu Urip Village RT.04 Dusun 1 Jembatan 4. Currently the plants are 3 months old and have started to bear fruit. The farmers have been given training on the cultivation of Bonita IPB cayenne pepper plants, chili plant pests and diseases and control techniques and digital marketing of agricultural products.

Abstract

The international community service program organized by UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya students at the Indonesia Community Centre (ICC) Muar, Malaysia, aims to improve national insight and nationalism among children of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). These children face a national identity crisis because they grow up in a Malaysian environment with limited access to formal Indonesian education. The program includes several initiatives, such as creating nationalism-themed textbooks that introduce historical figures, ethnic cultures, and Indonesian tourist destinations, and are equipped with quizzes and assignments to measure students' understanding. In addition, a Sinanggar Tulo Dance workshop and a nationalism quiz competition were held to instill pride in Indonesian culture. This study used qualitative methods, collecting data through surveys, workshops, and group discussions. The results showed a significant increase in understanding Indonesian culture and history and strengthening national identity among PMI children. This program serves as an essential model for similar initiatives in the context of migration, focusing on maintaining nationalism through education and culture.

Abstract

One of the factors that affect student learning achievement is nutritional status. Poor nutrition that results in abnormalities in brain tissue has an impact, one of which is a decrease in cognitive function that affects student’s learning abilities. Optimal nutritional status is a benchmark for good health, so that students are expected to be fitter and more prepared for any conditions that occur, including disaster conditions. Community service activities in the form of nutritional assessments (assessment of nutritional status) of school children need to be carried out at Cancangan State Elementary School as a form of emergency response to natural disasters. The aim is to find out the nutritional status of students at Cancangan State Elementary School. The assessment of nutritional status began with anthropometric measurements, namely body weight and height, then continued with determined nutritional status using the Body Mass Index indicator according to Age (BMI/U) which was calculated using WHO-Antro software. Community service activities attended by 90 students and 11 teachers at Cancangan State Elementary School were carried out smoothly. The results of data analysis showed that there was no difference in nutritional status of BMI/A based on gender, both in students in the age group <10 years and the age group ≥10 years (p-value ≥0.05). Both female and male students were dominated by students with good (normal) nutritional status. Age and gender were not related to students' nutritional status based on BMI/A (p-value ≥0.05).

Abstract

Indihiang Village is one of the areas with the largest number of tofu maker in Tasikmalaya City. However, the number of tofu maker is directly proportional to the amount of waste produced. Tofu liquid waste that is not used properly then becomes an environmental problem because it causes an unpleasant odor. Apart from that, tofu liquid waste that is thrown into rivers can disrupt the aquatic ecosystem. The aim of this community service activity (PkM) is to increase public knowledge regarding the use of tofu waste and its processing into Nata De Soya in Indihiang Village, Tasikmalaya City. This training activity was carried out on September 19 2024 at the hall of the Indihiang Village Office, Tasikmalaya. Participants in this training activity were the Indihiang Village Family Welfare Empowerment Team. The PkM stages include problem identification, PkM location survey and coordination with the Indihiang Village as well as a demonstration on making Nata De Soya. The success of PkM activities was marked by increasing public knowledge regarding the use of tofu liquid waste to make Nata De Soya, which was marked by an increase in the score on the post test by 19 points. Abstract

Stunting is currently the main nutritional problem that occurs in toddlers. The impact can be seen in the disruption of children's growth and development, and in the long term, this nutritional problem can reduce the quality of human resources in Indonesia. Through the Fish Cultivation in Buckets (Budidamber) program, this is an innovation in the form of environmentally friendly cultivation techniques. The aim of this service activity is to meet the nutritional needs of animal protein for toddlers prone to stunting in the village of Teluk Tenggulang, Tungkal Ilir, Banyuasin through the Fish Cultivation in Buckets (Budidamber) program. The target to be achieved is that the community in Teluk Teggulang Village who have toddlers prone to stunting can meet their nutritional needs for animal protein through the Budidamber Program so that these toddlers will experience weight gain. The strategy used to achieve the goal is by conducting field surveys, providing Budidamber packages to families who have toddlers prone to stunting, providing education on how to cultivate Budidamber, and monitoring Budidamber activities so that the program can run and the results of fish farming can be enjoyed by families who are given the Budidamber package. The results obtained from this program are an increase in partners' knowledge and skills regarding cultivating fish in buckets (Budidamber), an increase in food independence for families with stunting-prone toddlers and an increase in the weight of toddlers who are stunting-prone.
