Abstract

The Special Branch of Muhammadiyah Malaysia accommodates Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMW) from the Kampung Bharu, Kampung Pandan, and Kepong areas. The main problem that arises for IMW is the economy. One activity that can help the IMW economy in Malaysia is entrepreneurship through fish farming. Freshwater fish farming has good prospects for development and can be used as a source of income. However, feed costs can reach 60-70% of fish production costs, so it is necessary to find alternatives to replace commercial feed with good nutritional quality and lower prices, including maggots. This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of partners in cultivating maggots as an alternative feed in fish farming. This activity is research-based community empowerment as a transfer of knowledge and technology to target partners to improve knowledge and skills about maggot farming. Community service activities are carried out using participatory and collaborative approaches; partners actively participate in activities and collaborate. Community service activities are carried out in 5 stages: coordination of activity preparation with partners, counseling on maggots, potential and how to cultivate them, maggot farming training, mentoring, and activity evaluation. The program's success rate was measured using the one-group pre-test and post-test. The results of the activity showed that 85% of partner members understood the potential of maggots and how to cultivate them from the previous 52.5% (exceeding the target of 80%); 85% were able to implement maggot cultivation from the previous 40% (exceeding the target of 80%). The evaluation showed that this community service activity could help partners overcome the problem of providing cheap and potential alternative fish feed and fish cultivation problems. Based on the evaluation, there needs to be a continuation of the program to assist partners in overcoming various problems to improve the economy, one of which is through fish cultivation.

Abstract

Sangatta Selatan Village is one of the village names in Sangatta Selatan District, East Kutai Regency. This village has a freshwater fish farming village fostered by the STIPER Kutai Timur Community Service (PKM) team. Training in making fermented fish feed is an activity that aims to provide skills to fish farmers and the community in Sangatta Selatan District. Providing fermented feed is one way that can be done to increase the growth of tilapia. Training in making fermented fish feed in this activity uses easily available materials, namely commercial feed, molasses and EM4 (effective microorganisms 4). This method was chosen because the process is quite simple and easy to practice, but has enormous benefits for saving production costs. This PKM activity is carried out by providing several theories regarding the methods and benefits of fermented feed which are continued with the practice of making it. The results of this activity are easy to implement by tilapia farmers and are recommended in tilapia cultivation for more optimal and efficient results so that they can save production costs.

Abstract

Rice washing water (commonly called air leri) is a household waste that is often discarded, even though it can be used as a liquid organic fertilizer. This water contains a significant amount of essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), vitamins, and minerals that support the growth of vegetable crops. When consumed by humans, it may also improve overall health. The objective of this community service activity is to enhance public knowledge about the benefits of rice washing water for plant growth and human health, to encourage behavioral changes in environmentally friendly waste management, and to improve community skills in making and using rice washing water as a liquid organic fertilizer for home gardening. The method of implementation includes three main activities: (1) education and outreach on the benefits of rice washing water for plant growth, soil fertility, health, and environmental sustainability; (2) hands-on training to teach the community how to collect, store, and apply the water efficiently to vegetable crops; and (3) mentoring, by assisting residents in applying rice washing water to home garden plots. The results show that 75% of participants experienced increased understanding and skills in managing household waste into eco-friendly agricultural inputs. There was also increased interest in home gardening. This activity contributes to food security, family health, and the reduction of household waste.

Abstract

One of the freshwater fish that has been successfully cultivated by the people of Macang Sakti village is tilapia. However, the high cultivation is not in line with its marketing, which is still relatively low. In addition, high feed costs are also an obstacle to raising tilapia. Therefore, education on innovation in processing tilapia seeds in the form of nutritious food is very necessary to be provided to the community by empowering women's groups as business actors. This effort also aims to increase family economic income. The location of community service was carried out in Macang Sakti Village, Sanga Desa District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The methods used were survey methods, counseling, discussion and demonstration (practice) of processing tilapia seeds into crispy babyfish. The implementation of the activity was attended by more than 16 participants from among housewives with great enthusiasm. The results of this Community Service show that community service activities can increase participants' knowledge and skills about nutrition and processing tilapia seeds into healthy snacks (crispy babyfish) and motivate them to actively consume fish.

Abstract

The focus of this activity is psychoeducation aimed at sustaining mental health in preparation for students' future job orientation. The progression of contemporary society aligns with advancements in technology, resulting in the creation of increasingly competitive employment opportunities. Students, as future job seekers, have significant demands for career success and maintain high expectations of their parents. This is a significant burden and responsibility for a student to bear. According to developmental theory, individuals in the early adult stage are characterized as students, who are tasked with the responsibility of independently determining their future career paths. As a student, formulating a career plan will be associated with the educational process undertaken, particularly at the university level. The objective is to facilitate the development of individuals following the phases of life that they will encounter in the future through the educational process. The stages of development in students are in late adolescence and early adulthood when viewed from the developmental spectrum. During this stage, the individual's mental condition is unstable, and they may experience conflicts, demands, and mood swings. This condition can impact the academic journey of students, particularly through the experience of depression stemming from a decline in academic performance. Therefore, it is essential to recognize that the mental health of students plays a crucial role in anticipating potential negative impacts on students, educational institutions, families, the surrounding environment, and future career paths.  Mental health is a critical issue that requires focused attention.

Abstract

Online teaching and learning have become commonplace in educational institutions since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even after the pandemic subsided, many institutions continued to adopt online or hybrid learning because of its flexibility, allowing education to take place from virtually anywhere. However, limited teacher skills in conducting online instruction can negatively affect the quality of the learning process and outcomes. This international community engagement initiative aimed to analyze the enhancement of teacher capacity through innovative online teaching training at the Sasnupatam School, Pattani, Thailand. The program was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Islam Indonesia. The methods employed in this initiative included remote observations and interviews with key stakeholders at the Sasnupatam School. The program’s main concept focused on providing high school teachers with online teaching techniques. Based on the results of the observations and interviews, the proposed solution was to conduct an online teaching training program for teachers. The training outcomes indicated that teachers improved their skills in utilizing educational applications, classroom management, and motivation-based teaching approaches. The three main topics covered in the training were motivation-based instructional design, selection of appropriate learning media, and active learning methods in online teaching contexts. The program was successfully implemented and contributed to teachers’ improved capacity in designing engaging online lessons through motivation-based approaches, effective media selection, and active learning practices.

Abstract

Education plays an essential role in producing quality graduates, and the right to quality education is guaranteed by law, including for people with disabilities. To realise quality education, teachers need to update their knowledge to equip students with the skills to understand environmental issues and, hopefully, obtain decent jobs, thereby contributing to sustainable, environmentally friendly economic growth. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct community service for visually impaired teachers on the Sustainable Development Goals for Visually Impaired Teachers using an audio-based gamification learning method, which is an innovative, inclusive learning method. Sixty special needs schoolteachers attended this community service activity, but only 65% participated in the assessment. The percentage of correct answers was relatively high, and the completion time was adequate. From each multiple-choice and true/false evaluation, five winners were selected based on the number of correct answers and the fastest completion time. The results of the audio-based assessment indicate that the learning materials and methods used were well absorbed.
