Abstract

This community service initiative, conducted under the Community-Based Empowerment Scheme, aims to enhance the economic independence of the Burai Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) through the implementation of biofloc technology in catfish cultivation and the utilization of maggots (Black Soldier Fly larvae) as an alternative feed source. The program was carried out from March to November 2025, comprising several stages: initial exploration, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), outreach, technical training, and field practice. The training focused on three key aspects: (1) biofloc-based catfish farming, (2) maggot cultivation as a high-protein feed, and (3) basic marketing and bookkeeping strategies. The outcomes showed a significant improvement in the capacity of village youth to manage productive, fisheries-based enterprises. However, challenges remained, including fish mortality rates of up to 30% due to unstable water quality and maggot mortality caused by high environmental temperatures. Corrective measures were implemented through regular water quality monitoring, improved feed management, and better control of maggot rearing conditions. Overall, this program successfully strengthened the technical and managerial skills of Karang Taruna members, fostered an entrepreneurial mindset, and opened up sustainable business opportunities utilizing local resources.

Abstract

Citronella is an essential oil commodity plant with enormous potential for development. The citronella Farmers Group, which includes members from Makroman Village, Sambutan District, Samarinda City, and Sidomulyo Village, Anggana District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, has citronella land that has not yet been processed into products. Among the products offered through this community service activity is essential oil. By taking an approach that focuses on enhancing community capacity, it is hoped that the training will motivate the development of citronella-based products. This activity includes training, practice, and evaluation. The training provided citronella. During the community practice activity, they directly practiced operating the distillation equipment to obtain essential oils. The activity evaluation was conducted to assess the participants' level of understanding through pre-tests and post-tests. The training activity proved effective based on the evaluation results, which showed improvements in the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains. This activity contributes to increasing public knowledge and has the potential for sustainable mentoring.

Abstract

Catfish is a highly sought-after fish farmed by the community. Cultivation takes approximately 4 months from maintenance to harvest. The Balai Mina Fish Farming Group (Pokdakan Balai Mina) is a catfish farming group located in Talang Kebang Village, Pangalan Balai Subdistrict, Banyuasin Regency. The group currently focuses on cultivating catfish to consumption size. The fish harvest reaches 50 kg per week, and the farming activities are carried out sustainably. High market demand requires innovation in developing fish farming activities. The aim of this service is to provide environmentally friendly fish farming solutions using biofloc technology to increase catfish production. Catfish farming with biofloc technology results in faster growth, good feed efficiency, and a shorter rearing period, namely 2.5 to 3 months for the catfish to be harvested for consumption. Catfish farming with biofloc technology can increase fish weight by adding natural food in the pond in the form of flocs, so that the catfish receive additional food. Catfish cultivation using biofloc technology can increase catfish yields from 50 kg per week to 80 kg per week. This increase in catfish yields indicates an increase in catfish production.

Abstract

High dependency on seasonal harvests and limited access to quality food are challenges for the agrarian community in Tanjung Baru Petai Village, Ogan Ilir. This community service program aims to overcome these challenges through shallot cultivation in home yards, focusing on the empowerment of the Women Farmers Group (KWT). The method used is a participatory approach which includes socialization, technical training on shallot cultivation in polybags, the application of simple technology (organic compost), and continuous mentoring. Through the training, the community, especially housewives, gained independent cultivation skills on limited land. The program is expected to result in self-sufficient shallot gardens in residents' yards, improve skills, and strengthen household food security. The sustainability of the program is supported by the formation of home-yard farmer groups and the involvement of the village government for the replication and diversification of horticultural crops.

Abstract

Chili peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) are an important vegetable crop in Indonesia. Proliga (Double Production) technology is a technology package that doubles chili pepper production both during the on-season and off-season. This technology includes the use of superior varieties, zigzag planting distances, balanced fertilization, and routine pest and disease prevention and control.  One of the superior varieties of curly chili is Neno IPB, which has obtained variety release legalization from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture with Decree 458./Kpts/PV.240/D/X/2023. This variety was then developed into Neno Tavi IPB, which is resistant to viruses. This chili is suitable for lowlands. Potential locations for curly chili pepper development are in Tanah Mas Indah Talang Kelapa Banyuasin through a partnership-based PKM program.  The implementation methods include: 1) survey, observation and identification of partner problems, 2) licensing, partner approach and socialization, 3) training, mentoring and assistance, 4) technology application/demo plot creation, and 5) monitoring and evaluation.  The results of the activities include three training sessions and the creation of demonstration plots. Currently, the chili plants have been harvested with fairly good yields. Following the PKM activities, there has been an increase in knowledge levels, as well as an increase in farmers' turnover and income.

Abstract

The PKK business group of Plaju Darat Village, as a partner in Community Service Activities has produced catfish floss but the quality is still low. Based on the initial moisture content of 4.10% and the initial oil content of 33.76% which causes the product to not last, the problems faced by partners are (1) lack of production tools (2) marketing is still done directly to consumers, (3) packaging is still simple (4) not doing business bookkeeping. The purpose of the community service activities is to improve the quality of catfish floss products and improve product marketing and financial management. The methods used are initial surveys, data collection of partner problems, training, counseling, providing tools and assistance in using fish meat presses, oil presses and bookkeeping as well as providing financial administration books. Another activity result was the addition of production equipment to the partner (in the form of a water press, spinner, vacuum sealer, and equipment for the fish floss production process). The partner has implemented online marketing and has maintained accounting records for the fish floss production business. Overall, the activity results achieved nearly 100% of the resolution of all the problems faced by the partner.

Abstract

MSMEs in Indonesia play a strategic role in supporting economic growth and job creation, but they still face various structural challenges. This prevents many MSMEs from optimally transforming in the digital era. This programme aims to provide assistance and encourage the transformation of the Zhofi handmade bag MSME through an integrated business development approach, including production, marketing, capitalisation, technology enhancement, and financial management. The programme was conducted from September to December at the Zhofi MSME in Talang Kelapa, Alang-alang Lebar District, Palembang City. Challenges faced included production management, digital marketing, financial record keeping, and access to capital. Activities included needs identification, field observation, training, implementation, and evaluation. This programme successfully increased production efficiency, strengthened digital marketing strategies, improved financial records, and increased MSME readiness to utilise technology and access financing. Results show that the integrated approach significantly improved MSME performance and served as a business development model for other MSMEs facing similar challenges. This transformation reflects the importance of sustainable mentoring in increasing MSME competitiveness in the digital era.
