Abstract

This research explores the importance of communicating with empathy as an ethical practice on social media. In an increasingly globalised digital era, interactions on social media are often marked by conflict, misunderstanding and unethical behaviour. Through an empathic approach, users can better understand and appreciate others' perspectives and feelings, which in turn reduces potential tensions and enriches the quality of interactions. Empathic communication supports honesty, transparency and inclusiveness, and promotes a more welcoming and safe digital environment. This research shows that empathy not only improves interpersonal relationships but also contributes to the formation of a more solid and harmonious online community. Thus, implementing empathic communication on social media is a key step in achieving better digital ethics and creating more humanised and meaningful interactions.

Abstract

This paper will discuss the criminal provisions of data privacy law and anatomy of cybercrime law in Indonesia before the amendment of ICT Law and its implementation. During pandemic time, cyber incidents have increased over time. Indeed, cybercrime law in Indonesia regulates prohibition of hacking, phishing, illegal interception, carding, pornography, defamation and so on in accordance with the Electronic Information and Transactions Act (Undang- Undang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik, UU-ITE hereinafter also referred to as ‘Indonesia ICT Law), Law No. 11 of 2008 which later on revised into Law No. 19 of 2016 and currently became Law No. 1 of 2024. At the same time, Law No. 27 of 2022 (Personal Data Protection/ PDP Law) concerning data privacy protection also stipulated criminal provision and already used in case law. This law can be a part of cybercrime law system in Indonesia side by side with Indonesia ICT Law. Back to Indonesia ICT Law, the implementation of this law can be seen in 210 case law which I have collected and analysed in this paper. I have found that cases are dominated by online defamation, hate speech on social media, pornography, and extortion. Meanwhile, these cases are relatively similar with ‘ordinary crime’ which is regulated in criminal code. The high technological crimes such as hacking, phishing, illegal interception, carding, are less shown, hereby. The highest case number is online defamation which it was also triggered by some human rights activists sued to judicial review through the constitutional court to eliminate the article concerning online defamation. The reason of judicial review concerning online defamation is because this article may potentially oppress the freedom expression, freedom of speech, and freedom of press. The anatomy of cybercrime law in Indonesia still remains some problems in legal norms and legal practice.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of different leadership styles on employee work engagement, with a focus on identifying effective leadership practices that foster high levels of engagement. The research examines three primary leadership styles— transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire—and their influence on work engagement dimensions, including vigor, dedication, and absorption. A mixed- methods approach was used, combining quantitative surveys from 450 employees across various industries and qualitative interviews with 25 organizational leaders and HR professionals. The results reveal that transformational leadership is the most effective in driving work engagement, as it encourages employee empowerment, motivation, and personal development. Employees under transformational leaders reported high levels of engagement, particularly in terms of dedication and absorption. In contrast, transactional leadership showed moderate effects, with employees reporting engagement primarily related to performance and target achievement, but lower levels of emotional involvement. Laissez-faire leadership, characterized by minimal involvement and guidance, had the most negative impact on employee engagement, leading to feelings of disconnection, disengagement, and low morale. The study highlights the importance of adopting transformational leadership practices to cultivate an engaged workforce, while suggesting that organizations should limit the use of transactional and laissez-faire leadership approaches. By focusing on leadership development that promotes trust, innovation, and personal growth, organizations can improve work engagement, resulting in enhanced productivity, job satisfaction, and long-term organizational success.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze changes in social values in a multicultural society through a comparative study between generations, based on a comprehensive literature review. In the context of globalization and increasing social mobility, social values tend to undergo significant transformation from one generation to the next. This literature review explores how values such as tolerance, coexistence, inclusion, and cultural identity are perceived and implemented by the older generation compared to the younger generation. The research results show that the younger generation tends to be more open to cultural diversification and more adaptive in integrating new values, while the older generation often maintains traditional values, but still shows the ability to adapt in the face of social change. This research concludes that intergenerational dialogue and multicultural education are the main keys in creating social harmony and reducing the potential for value conflict in a multicultural society. With a deep understanding of the dynamics of changing social values between generations, social policies and strategies can be more effective in supporting sustainable social integration and cohesion.

Abstract

Classical Quranic interpretation is a way of interpreting the holy book of Islam that comes from the research of previous scholars, based on traditional principles including the scope of the Arabic language, the historical context of the revelation of verses, and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, among other sources that are considered authentic and authoritative. While modern tafsir is a contemporary approach to understanding the Quran that applies hermeneutics, social analysis, and cutting-edge scientific perspectives to answer new issues and the dynamics of today's life, while still adhering to the basic principles of Islam and often trying to connect classical texts with modern realities. The research method used in this study is the literature study method. The results show that despite the differences between classical and modern tafsir, they have great potential to complement each other. Classical tafsir, with its rich historical roots and methodology, provides the basis for a deep and authentic understanding of the teachings of the Quran. On the other hand, modern tafsir, through a more flexible and responsive approach to the times, offers insights that are adaptive and relevant to the current social, political and scientific context. The combination of these two approaches not only enriches the understanding of Islam, but also facilitates the application of Quranic teachings in the context of contemporary life.
