Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping the character, morals, and spirituality of students in schools. Actualizing PAI involves more than just delivering material in the classroom, but also implementing Islamic values in real life within the school environment. This article discusses how the actualization of PAI can be realized through curriculum, learning methods, teacher role models, and school culture. It also discusses challenges faced, such as globalization, digital technology, and the diversity of student backgrounds. The study shows that PAI, when implemented holistically, can produce a generation that is not only intellectually intelligent but also possesses spiritual, social, and moral intelligence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problems of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teacher professionalism in the modern era, characterized by the development of information technology and complex socio-religious changes. This study uses library research methods by reviewing academic literature, government policies, and relevant previous research results. The novelty of this study lies in a holistic analytical approach that integrates four main aspects of teacher professionalism: qualifications and competencies, welfare, training and certification, and recruitment and development. The results show that the main problems lie in the low suitability of academic qualifications, welfare inequality between regions, a weak training and certification system that is still administrative, and a recruitment and development process that is not based on meritocracy and equal distribution of needs. To address these issues, this study recommends strengthening policies to improve academic qualifications through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Distance Learning programs, improving the allowance system and funding partnerships based on ZISWAF, reforming training based on field needs (need assessment), and continuous professional development through mentoring and professional learning communities.

Abstract

The Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum plays a strategic role in shaping the character, morals, and personality of students who are faithful and devout. This article aims to analyze the content of the PAI curriculum in schools to determine its alignment with the goals of Islamic education and the demands of modern times. The analysis covers curriculum development principles, foundational elements of preparation, and the transformation of the PAI curriculum in Indonesia across different eras. The results show that the PAI curriculum has undergone significant development, from a simple post-independence curriculum to the "Kurikulum Merdeka," which emphasizes the formation of the Pancasila Student Profile and religious moderation. The conclusion of this study reinforces that an ideal PAI curriculum must be adaptive, contextual, and able to balance cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects to address global challenges.

Abstract

Authentic assessment has great potential to measure students’ holistic competencies, going beyond the limits of traditional cognitive tests. In Islamic Religious Education (PAI), which emphasizes character formation and value internalization, the application of authentic assessment is essential to ensure that evaluation aligns with the spiritual goals of education. This study aims to examine the fundamental principles of authentic assessment, analyze their relevance to PAI evaluation, and formulate necessary modifications to enhance validity and reliability in the spiritual and affective domains. A comparative literature review method was employed, drawing from classical authentic assessment theories and the philosophy of Islamic educational evaluation. The findings indicate that the principles of contextuality and performance focus are highly relevant, while objectivity poses methodological challenges in assessing sincerity and moral character. The proposed solution involves applying spiritual data triangulation and continuous assessment. The study concludes that authentic assessment in PAI requires fundamental adaptation to maintain ecological validity without compromising assessment integrity.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) holds a strategic position in Indonesia's national education system because it plays a role in shaping character, morals, and national identity. However, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policies are not born in a neutral space, but are constantly influenced by political dynamics, state ideology, and the relationship between the state and society. This article aims to analyze the history and evolution of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policies in Indonesia from the colonial period to the Reformation era, and to examine the roles of the state and society in determining the direction of these policies. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research. Data were obtained from various written sources, such as laws and regulations, academic books, and relevant scientific journal articles. Data analysis was carried out through content analysis, examining PAI policies within their surrounding socio-political context. The results of the study indicate that Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policies in Indonesia have experienced fluctuating dynamics, ranging from marginalization during the colonial period, formalization and ideologization during the New Order era, to strengthening and democratization in the Reformation era. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policies are the result of a dialectic between the state as the regulator and controller of ideology and society as the primary actors and drivers of Islamic education. Thus, the direction of Islamic Religious Education policy in Indonesia is adaptive and continues to develop in line with changing times, but still faces the challenges of globalization, radicalism, and digital technology disruption.

Abstract

This study aims to re-examine the meaning of the Betapung Tawar tradition from an Islamic educational perspective and to analyze efforts to revitalize its spiritual values in the contemporary era. Betapung Tawar is one of the cultural heritages of the Banjar community that embodies religious and social values and reflects the integration of local culture with Islamic teachings. However, amid modernization and globalization, its spiritual meaning has shifted, particularly among younger generations who tend to perceive it merely as a cultural ceremony. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature review and cultural observation of the Banjar society. The findings indicate that the Betapung Tawar tradition contains core Islamic educational values, including tauhid (monotheism), prayer, moral discipline, and social solidarity, which align with the principles of Islamic law. The revitalization of these values can be implemented through Islamic cultural education in schools, culture-based da’wah, and the active involvement of younger generations in local wisdom-based activities. Thus, the Betapung Tawar tradition is not only preserved as cultural heritage but also functions as a medium for the internalization and transmission of Islamic educational values in contemporary Banjar society.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic education in the digital era brings both significant opportunities and challenges, particularly with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI can enhance learning efficiency, enable curriculum personalization to meet students’ needs, and expand access to education. On the other hand, its use raises fundamental ethical questions regarding the teacher’s role as a moral exemplar, students’ spirituality, and the potential dehumanization of the educational process. This study explores how AI can be strategically implemented in Islamic education while preserving moral and ethical values. Employing a qualitative method with a library research approach, it analyzes scientific literature, international journals, and scholars’ perspectives on AI in education. The findings reveal that AI has great potential as a tool for transforming Islamic education, but its use must be guided by Islamic ethical principles, including tawhid (divine unity), amanah (trustworthiness), and social responsibility. Therefore, AI-based transformation in Islamic education is not merely technological modernization, but an opportunity to strengthen humanistic values and moral development. Its implementation must balance innovation with nurturing students’ spiritual and ethical growth, ensuring that technology supports rather than replaces the teacher’s role and the core values of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the monitoring and evaluation (monev) system in improving lecturer professionalism in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at IDIA Prenduan. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, this study analyzed data from in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review with four key informants. The research findings indicate that the SIMASTER-based monev system successfully increased lecturer compliance with the RPS by 22% (from 65% in 2020 to 87% in 2023), while encouraging 45% of lecturers to adopt active learning methods. However, the implementation of this system faced obstacles in the form of technological resistance from 23% of senior lecturers and negative perceptions of student evaluations (30% of respondents). The uniqueness of this study lies in the integration of Islamic boarding school values (al-muhasabah and tazkiyatun nafs) which were proven to be effective in increasing lecturer acceptance of the evaluation process (85% of respondents). This study recommends the development of an integrated monitoring and evaluation model that combines a technocratic approach with the distinctive values of Islamic boarding schools, intensive training for senior lecturers, and the refinement of evaluation instruments based on 360-degree feedback. These findings provide an important contribution to the development of a quality assurance system in religious higher education institutions with a distinctive cultural approach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of e-learning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) through a literature review approach. The rapid development of information technology has significantly transformed educational practices, including the delivery of religious education, which has traditionally relied on conventional methods. E-learning emerges as an alternative learning medium that enhances flexibility, accessibility, and effectiveness in the teaching and learning process. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature study method by examining various sources such as academic journals, books, and relevant articles. The data were analyzed through systematic steps, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the use of e-learning in PAI learning offers several advantages, including promoting students’ independent learning, expanding access to diverse learning resources, and supporting more interactive and innovative teaching methods. However, several challenges remain, such as limited technological competence among teachers and students, reduced face-to-face interaction that may affect affective and spiritual aspects, and infrastructure limitations. Therefore, the implementation of e-learning in Islamic Religious Education should be optimized through improving teachers’ digital competencies, developing learning media aligned with Islamic values, and providing adequate infrastructure to achieve effective learning outcomes.
