Abstract

Wasathiyyah is a central concept in Islamic teachings, reflecting the values of balance, justice, and moderation in all aspects of life. This study aims to explore the understanding of Wasathiyyah from the perspective of Al-Azhar scholars through a hermeneutical approach. The research method used is library research with a qualitative approach and philosophical hermeneutic analysis of the works of scholars such as Dr. Muhammad al-Madani, Dr. Ali Muhammad Shalabiy, and Dr. Nour ad-Din Mukhtar al-Khadimiy. The findings show that Wasathiyyah is not merely a middle position, but a principle of divine justice rooted in the Qur’an and Hadith. Al-Azhar scholars apply contextual interpretations blended with universal values to keep Islam relevant and inclusive amid contemporary challenges. This study affirms the importance of hermeneutics in grounding the values of religious moderation so that Muslims can act justly, tolerantly, and with balance in their socio-religious life.

Abstract

Spiritual transformation in Sufism is a process of purification and inner enlightenment that guides humans toward true closeness with Allah. In the Sufi perspective, human beings are not merely physical and intellectual entities; they also possess a spiritual dimension that forms the core of their existence. This process unfolds through three essential stages: takhalli (cleansing the self from blameworthy traits), tahalli (adorning the self with noble character), and tajalli (the manifestation of divine light in the heart). These stages are not merely theoretical constructs but serve as a spiritual roadmap, especially relevant in addressing the existential and moral crises of the modern age. In a fast-paced, materialistic world, spiritual transformation offers a vital path to achieving inner balance and social harmony. Through this process, Sufism not only strengthens an individual's spiritual integrity but also contributes to the formation of a more compassionate and ethical society. Therefore, spiritual transformation through takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli becomes the key to attaining purity of the soul, gnosis of God, and a more meaningful life amidst contemporary challenges.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the educational values within the dhikr nazam (recitation of the zikir) culture in Sambas Regency. This is because the dhikr nazam culture in the Malay community of Sambas Regency has been passed down from generation to generation. Currently, dhikr nazam has become prominent in wedding ceremonies, including aqiqah (aqiqah). The research method used by the researcher is descriptive. In descriptive research, the researcher develops concepts and gathers a description of the problem based on the facts. The subjects of this study are Malays who actively attend invitations and enjoy dhikr. The results conclude that the educational values within the dhikr nazam culture of Sambas Regency are a traditional practice in Sambas Malay weddings. The Sambas Malay community carries out this tradition by holding the Majelis Walimatul Ursy (Assembly of Religious Gatherings), which includes traditional events and rituals, such as the recitation of dhikr nazam and dhikr al-barzanji in an area called Tarup. From the perspective of educational values within the culture of dhikr nazam in Sambas Regency, several aspects are identified, such as religion, faith, morals, and worship. Abstract

Tahalli is an essential stage in the process of purifying the soul (tazkiyatun nafs) that plays a crucial role in the formation of noble character in Islam. Essentially, tahalli is the effort to beautify the soul with virtuous qualities after cleansing it from reprehensible traits through takhalli. Tahalli requires individuals to consciously and consistently instill values of goodness, both in their relationship with Allah and with fellow human beings. In practice, tahalli has a significant impact on both individual life and society. This process begins with strengthening faith and habituating oneself to practice virtuous character traits, such as sincerity, patience, trust in Allah, gratitude, and humility. The positive impacts of tahalli not only encompass inner peace but also improve social relationships, create a harmonious environment, and promote the development of a civilization based on moral values. Therefore, tahalli becomes a fundamental foundation in building an outstanding individual and a prosperous society.

Abstract

This article examines Christian theology from the perspective of Paul's evangelism as an effort to interpret the Gospel and build congregations amidst the challenges of the socio-cultural context. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods, examining New Testament texts, especially Paul's letters, as well as contemporary theological and missiological literature in Indonesian. The results of the study indicate that Paul's evangelism emphasizes the integration of fidelity to the core of the Gospel, the transformation of congregational life, sound teaching, and harmonious community relations. Paul's contextual and inculturative evangelism strategy is relevant for the church today, as it allows for the delivery of the Gospel that is sensitive to the culture and needs of the congregation without compromising theological truth. Congregational development through teaching and community relations demonstrates that evangelism is not only doctrinal, but also practical and relational, forming a strong Christian character and an inclusive community. This study provides theoretical and practical contributions to the modern church in developing relevant evangelism strategies and building strong congregations in a pluralistic and dynamic society.

Abstract

This article examines the relevance of Christian theology in addressing the challenges of modern life characterized by secularization, individualism, a technological ethical crisis, cultural pluralism, and environmental degradation. This research uses a qualitative method with a library study approach, through a critical analysis of Christian theological literature, church documents, and relevant academic works. The results of the study indicate that Christian theology not only has a doctrinal function but also a practical role in the daily lives of the people. Christian theology serves as a basis for faith reflection that strengthens the relationship with God, while strengthening human solidarity amidst the dynamics of modern society. In the face of secularization, Christian theology affirms faith as the center of the meaning of human life. In the face of individualism, theology emphasizes love and social solidarity. In the face of developments in science and technology, theology presents an ethical framework rooted in the word of God. Meanwhile, in the face of cultural and religious pluralism, Christian theology emphasizes the importance of open dialogue while remaining rooted in faith in Christ. Similarly, in the face of the environmental crisis, Christian theology encourages ecological spirituality as a manifestation of faith's responsibility. Thus, contextual, critical, and transformative Christian theology has proven relevant as a guide for the lives of people in building a more just, peaceful, and civilized world.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Christian theology as a foundation for the renewal of faith and ethics in order to realize the transformation of individuals, the church, and the social life of society. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library study method through analysis of theological literature, Christian ethics, and relevant academic writings. The results of the study indicate that Christian theology functions not only as a dogmatic reflection but also as a practical guideline for believers. First, Christian theology strengthens faith by deepening understanding of salvation in Christ, which encourages personal renewal. Second, the integration of theology and Christian ethics makes faith manifest in acts of love and moral responsibility in daily life. Third, theology plays a crucial role in the transformation of the church, both in renewing spirituality, strengthening fellowship, and affirming the prophetic role amidst global challenges. Fourth, Christian theology emphasizes the social responsibility of the congregation in building a just, peaceful, and solidary society. Thus, this article confirms that Christian theology has a significant contribution not only in the development of personal faith but also in bringing about meaningful social change in society.

Abstract

Exploring the concept of religious moderation and its relevance in contemporary society, aiming to distinguish it from fundamentalism, extremism, and liberalism. I provide a conceptual framework for understanding religious moderation, examining its etymology, historical context, and interdisciplinary interpretations. The core values of moderation—tolerance, empathy, dialogue, and inclusivity—are analysed alongside the principles of contextual interpretation of religious texts and the role of ethics and social justice. Through concrete examples from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religious traditions, I highlight how these principles are manifested in practice. Furthermore, I discuss the challenges and criticisms faced by religious moderation from conservative and secular perspectives, emphasising the delicate balance between religious belief and inclusivity in a diverse society. This comprehensive analysis aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how religious moderation can promote peaceful coexistence and social justice in an increasingly polarised world.

Abstract

Memorising the Qur'an is a form of worship that began during the time of the Prophet Muhammad and has continued to develop to the present day. The process of memorising the Qur'an implemented by career women at the Ahlul Qur'an Institute involves several methods recommended by Qur'an memorisation experts, namely the wahdah, bin-nazar, sima'i, talaqqi, takrir, tahfiz, tasmi', and kitabah methods. Of the various methods of memorising the Qur'an, these can make it easier and faster for career women to memorise. The purpose of this study is to determine the methods, implementation steps, and supporting and inhibiting factors in the application of the Qur'an memorisation methods used by career women at the Ahlul Qur'an Institute in Sebawi Village, Sebawi District, Sambas Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative. The location used for this study is the Ahlul Qur'an Institute in Sebawi Village, Sebawi District, Sambas Regency, while the research subjects are four career women and one informant, who is the head of the institute. The reason for using this method was to explore, observe, or find more accurate data on the methods used by career women to memorise the Qur'an at the Ahlul Qur'an Institute in Sebawi Village, Sebawi Subdistrict, Sambas Regency. Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) the methods used by career women in memorising the Qur'an are the verse-by-verse memorisation method, the reading observation method, and the repetition method. (2) The steps in applying the method of memorising the Qur'an among career women at the Ahlul Qur'an Institute in Sebawi Village, Sebawi District, Sambas Regency, are reading verses during prayer, submitting new memorisation, and understanding the verses to be memorised. (3) Supporting and inhibiting factors are the presence of a mentor and the use of the right method. Abstract

This journal article aims to systematically explore the doctrine of the Bible (Bibliology) as the foundational pillar of the Christian faith and its relevance for believers today. The central problem addressed is the waning acknowledgment of the Bible's authority in the postmodern era, marked by rationalist skepticism, liberal interpretations, and a practical neglect of Scripture in daily life. Employing a qualitative literature research method, this study draws upon theological works from figures such as Louis Berkhof, Henry C. Thiessen, and Paul Enns. The findings indicate that the Bible, composed of the Old and New Testaments written over 1,500 years by more than 40 authors, demonstrates a remarkable unity centered on God's salvation plan through Jesus Christ. As God-breathed Scripture (theopneustos), it possesses divine attributes: authority, inerrancy, sufficiency, clarity, necessity, and eternality. The study concludes that Bibliology is not merely an academic discipline but a crucial doctrine that shapes the believer's faith, provides ethical standards, offers comfort, and motivates mission. Its application in personal, family, church, and societal life ensures that the Christian faith remains robust and relevant amidst contemporary challenges
