Abstract

The background of the general and specific division of the verses of the Qur'an and Hadith is to understand in depth the Islamic teachings contained therein, because the verses of the Qur'an are often general (global) and the Hadith function as detailed explanations (bayan). Without knowledge of the general and specific, understanding can be wrong and will be trapped in misinterpretation, so that an appropriate interpretation method is needed to combine the verses of the Qur'an, clarify their meaning, and ensure their suitability with the broader context of sharia. This study aims to provide information to readers clearly without being convoluted so that readers can understand easily. In this study, the method used is library research, with a qualitative research approach. In this article the author discusses 7 points of discussion, namely general and specific definitions of Al-Qur'an verses and Hadith, examples of verses and Hadith that show general and specific, characteristics of general and specific pronunciation, specialization of the Al-Qur'an with the Al-Qur'an, specialization of the Al-Qur'an with Hadith, specialization of Hadith with the Al-Qur'an and specialization of Hadith with Hadith. Al-Qur'an verses are general and specific, for example, a mufassir examines and interprets the Yasin letter. Then, based on his study, he said that the letter can be divided into three parts, each part of which is interconnected, continuous and leads to one meaning (problem). Meanwhile, there are 3 hadiths which indicate general and specific, namely: authentic hadith, hasan hadith, and dhaif hadith

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contribution of religious leaders in implementing da'wah (Islamic outreach) oriented toward flood mitigation in Rupit District, North Musi Rawas Regency. The frequent flooding in this area not only causes physical and economic losses but also impacts the social and spiritual well-being of the community. In this context, religious leaders play a crucial role as agents of change, capable of raising awareness, instilling religious values, and guiding the community to be alert and wise in facing the threat of disaster. The study used a qualitative approach, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation with religious leaders and local residents. The research findings revealed that da'wah conducted by religious leaders emphasized three main aspects: (1) raising awareness of environmental sustainability as part of religious teachings, (2) internalizing the values of patience, solidarity, and social awareness in the face of disasters, and (3) encouraging community preparedness through preventive measures and active involvement in mitigation efforts. Thus, the da'wah of religious leaders is not only spiritual in nature but also serves as an effective social instrument in strengthening community resilience in the face of flooding in Rupit District.

Abstract

The cold lava disaster in Nagari Bukik Batabuah caused physical damage, loss of property and family members, as well as profound social and psychological impacts. In this crisis, the community showed an increase in religiosity as a way of searching for meaning and a source of strength to face adversity. This study aims to examine the factors that influence the religiosity of the community and the forms of religiosity that developed after the disaster. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that there are four main factors that influence the religiosity of the community, namely education, experience, life, and intellect. This increase in religiosity is reflected in the emergence of social solidarity and a stronger sense of togetherness through disaster command posts, trauma healing, and religious activities that strengthen social and spiritual bonds. Thus, the disaster, which initially caused suffering, has become a turning point for the community to build a more religious, optimistic, and united life.

Abstract

This study discusses the dynamics of Islamic spirituality through historical and sociocultural studies of Sufi orders and their development in Muslim communities in the Indonesian archipelago. Sufi orders, as spiritual institutions in the Sufi tradition, play an important role in shaping the religious, social and cultural dimensions of Muslim communities in various regions. Through a historical approach and social analysis, this study traces the process of dissemination, adaptation, and transformation of Sufi teachings that occurred in conjunction with interactions with local cultures and changes over time. The results of the study show that Sufism not only functions as a vehicle for spiritual guidance, but also as a social and moral network that influences the religious structure, education, and cultural dynamics of Muslim communities in the Indonesian archipelago from classical times to the modern era.

Abstract

This article examines in-kind offerings in the church as a phenomenon that lies between two poles: an expression of faith and the potential for economic commodification. Using a qualitative approach based on literature, this research examines the theological meaning of in-kind offerings as a response of the congregation to God, the risk of misappropriation when offerings are treated as economic assets, and the relevance of the Cleansing of the Temple narrative as a critique of religious practices that deviate from the purpose of worship. The analysis shows that in-kind offerings are a manifestation of spirituality rooted in gratitude and obedience, but can lose their meaning when the church fails to maintain integrity in its governance. The Cleansing of the Temple narrative provides an ethical foundation for rejecting all forms of commercialization in worship spaces. This article emphasizes that transparency, accountability, theological education, and service orientation are key principles for ensuring offerings are managed according to the values of the Kingdom of God. Thus, in-kind offerings are not only part of liturgical rituals but also a field for character formation and the church's witness in the world.

Abstract

This study analyzes how the spiritual identity of the Torajan people in Lembang Benteng Mamullu was formed in a hybrid manner through the historical encounter between Aluk Todolo and Christianity, particularly in death rites such as Rambu Solo', which are still practiced but reinterpreted in light of the Christian faith. Using a qualitative historical-historiographical case study approach, this study explores the narratives of local actors across generations to show that Aluk Todolo now functions more as a cultural identity and communal ethos, while the theological and salvation dimensions are primarily referred to Christian teachings, resulting in the birth of a dynamic "Torajan-Christian" identity amidst the currents of modernization and globalization.

Abstract

The terminology bayani refers to a concept of knowledge within the Islamic intellectual tradition that emphasizes the authority of sacred texts, particularly the Qur’an and Hadith, as the primary sources of truth. From the perspective of Islamic epistemology, bayani is understood as a normative-deductive approach oriented toward literal, analogical, and textual interpretations of revelation. This approach gave rise to a strong methodology of law and ethics, as reflected in the classical tradition of Islamic jurisprudence. In modern developments, however, bayani is often debated for being less responsive to dynamic social realities. Nevertheless, bayani remains relevant as a normative foundation that safeguards the authenticity of religious teachings, while also being open to integration with other epistemological frameworks such as burhani (rational) and ‘irfani (intuitive). Thus, the terminology bayani not only represents a textual mode of thought in Islam but also constitutes an essential part of the comprehensive dialectic of Islamic knowledge.

Abstract

This study discusses burhani epistemology as one of the rational methods for acquiring knowledge in the Islamic intellectual tradition. The aim of this research is to understand the concept, philosophical foundations, and relevance of burhani epistemology to the development of knowledge and Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach by analyzing various scholarly works and the thoughts of figures such as Al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, and Abed Al-Jabiri. The findings indicate that burhani epistemology emphasizes the use of reason, empirical experience, and rational logic as the basis for discovering truth. This approach plays an important role in shaping critical, analytical, and contextual ways of thinking in understanding Islamic teachings. In education, the application of the burhani concept can enhance rational thinking skills, foster a balance between faith and reason, and shape the moral character of learners. Although it has strengths in providing a rational foundation for knowledge, burhani epistemology also has limitations, as not all truths can be reached by reason alone. Thus, burhani epistemology makes a significant contribution to the formation of a rational, ethical, and contextual paradigm of Islamic scholarship.

Abstract

Humor is one aspect of the Prophet Muhammad’s communication that frequently appears in hadiths but is often understood partially and rarely examined through a thematic approach. This article aims to analyze humor from the perspective of hadith by exploring its forms, ethical boundaries, and impacts using a thematic hadith methodology. This study employs a qualitative approach with library research as its main method. Data were collected from primary hadith compilations through thematic searching using keywords related to humor and were analyzed through classification and content interpretation techniques. The findings indicate that the Prophet’s humor appears in two main forms: verbal and nonverbal. Verbal humor is manifested through expressions, wordplay, and rhetorical language that carry educational and empathetic values, while nonverbal humor is expressed through facial expressions, smiles, laughter, and actions reflecting relational warmth. Moreover, the hadiths establish clear ethical guidelines for humor, including the prohibition of lying, humiliating others, causing harm, and excessive laughter. In terms of impact, humor practiced in a proportional manner contributes positively to emotional balance, social harmony, and the quality of interpersonal interactions. Therefore, humor in the perspective of hadith represents an integral part of prophetic communication ethics and can serve as a normative reference for contemporary social humor practices.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of solidarity from the perspective of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ hadiths using a thematic (maudhū‘ī) hadith approach. The research is motivated by the decline of social solidarity in modern society due to increasing individualism and pragmatic social relations. Employing a qualitative library-based method, the study draws upon authentic hadith sources such as Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, and Sunan al-Tirmidhī, supported by relevant academic literature. The analysis involves thematic inventory, classification, and interpretation of hadith texts. The findings reveal that solidarity in hadith encompasses spiritual, social, moral, and humanitarian dimensions rooted in faith, brotherhood (ukhuwah), mutual assistance (ta‘āwun), compassion, justice, and collective responsibility. Solidarity is thus understood not merely as a social ethic but as a manifestation of faith that strengthens social cohesion and enhances spiritual well-being, making it highly relevant as a framework for social ethics in contemporary society.
