Abstract

Implementation of Competency Based Education (CBC) in Kenya: Challenges and opportunities Given the challenges associated with the 8:4:4 system of education CBC that is skill-based has been deemed appropriate to replace it. The first cohort students of CBC are currently in grade 8-junior secondary school that has been domiciled in primary schools. However, the implementation seems to be bedeviled by multiple challenges. It is against this backdrop that this paper purposes to look at implementation of CBC in Kenya: Challenges and opportunities. Objectives of the study were: to determine the human resource challenges facing implementation of CBC; to establish the Schools’ infrastructural challenges facing the implementation of CBC; to establish the financial challenges facing the implementation of CBC and to examine the opportunities that can be explored towards realization of the success of the implementation of CBC.The study explored empirical literature and it was underpinned by Provus Educational Evaluation Model (1973).The study established that there are a multiple challenges bedeviling CBC implementation including financial constraints towards funding the students’ fees, and for establishing infrastructure. That there is acute shortage of teachers for the CBC and more so the JSS and that even the few teachers employed requires continuous support through professional training and develop to make them competent enough towards effectiveness in the delivery. That there are serious gaps in infrastructure including science and computer laboratories and that there are opportunities available to improve on CBC delivery-including improvement on funding; hiring more teachers and giving them continuous professional development amongst others.

Abstract

Creative learning approaches have been the focus of a recent literature review in an effort to increase innovation in the classroom. This research highlights that the integration of creative methods such as technology, problem-based projects and collaborative activities can strengthen student engagement and improve the quality of learning. Students who engage in these approaches tend to be more motivated and can develop essential skills such as critical thinking and creativity. However, implementing these innovations faces obstacles such as resistance from educators and limited resources. Therefore, comprehensive support from various parties and a change in educational culture are needed to overcome these challenges. Thus, this research confirms that by addressing these constraints, creative learning approaches have great potential to enrich students' learning experiences and outcomes.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of multisectoral synergy in improving education quality through a comprehensive literature review. This approach involves collaboration between the government, private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to pool and utilise diverse resources, expertise and technology to address educational challenges. The results of the study show that inter-sectoral synergies not only contribute to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of teaching staff, but also introduce more interactive and contextualised learning methods. These partnership programmes are able to create learning environments that are inclusive and adaptive to local needs, and enable equitable access to education to remote areas. In conclusion, sustained collaboration between sectors is essential to achieve a comprehensive improvement in the quality of education and provide a long-term positive impact on students' future readiness

Abstract

This research explores the challenges and opportunities of implementing multisectoral education in disadvantaged areas through a literature review. The main findings identified barriers such as limited infrastructure, technology and human resources, as well as the complexity of inter-sectoral coordination and cultural barriers. However, there are significant opportunities that can be utilised, including the use of digital technology for distance learning, cross-sector collaboration to overcome funding and infrastructure limitations and the integration of local wisdom in the education curriculum. With the right strategies and collaborative efforts, the implementation of multisectoral education in disadvantaged areas has the potential to substantially improve education quality and community welfare. This study provides important insights for policymakers and education practitioners in designing and implementing inclusive and sustainable education programmes in these areas.

Abstract

This research analyses the challenges and opportunities in implementing inclusive education through sectoral collaboration. Inclusive education aims to provide a learning environment that can accommodate a diverse range of students, including those with special needs. However, there are a number of challenges that need to be overcome to realise this goal, such as limited resources, lack of teacher training and structural and policy barriers. Through a literature review, this research highlights the importance of collaboration between different sectors, including government, schools, non- governmental organisations and communities, to overcome these challenges. Sectoral collaboration can provide the necessary resources, improve teacher competencies and create policies that support inclusive education. The research also identifies opportunities that can be optimised through a collaborative approach, ultimately creating a more inclusive, equitable and quality education system for all students

Abstract

This article explores ways to address disparities in education through a multisectoral approach, drawing on a review of international literature. Disparities in education, which are influenced by socio-economic, geographical, gender and physical ability factors, require holistic solutions that involve various sectors such as health, economy and society. The review emphasises the importance of policies that not only focus on infrastructure and curriculum but also provide social and financial support for disadvantaged groups. In addition, sustainable and data-driven programme planning is needed to identify the groups most in need of interventions and the types of interventions that are most effective. By adopting this approach, education policy can be more dynamic and responsive to challenges, potentially significantly reducing educational disparities.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the importance and implementation of character education in a multicultural perspective through literature analysis. Multicultural character education focuses on teaching values that encourage respect for cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. The results of the literature review show that this education not only develops the cognitive aspects, but also the affective and social aspects of learners, in order to form individuals who are aware and sensitive to differences and able to interact harmoniously in a heterogeneous society. Challenges in its implementation, such as lack of understanding, awareness, resources and training, are obstacles that need to be overcome with supporting policies and ongoing training programmes. With a holistic approach and commitment from various parties, multicultural character education has great potential in forming a generation that is intelligent, empathetic, and able to coexist in a society full of diversity.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a current technological approach towards implementation of programs including education in an efficient practice. However, in Kenyan higher educational institutions it appears scanty. The purpose of this study therefore is to Assess the use of AI in the implementation of public universities’ academic programs in Kenya. Specifically, the study seeks to determine whether there are AI policy frameworks for the universities; to establish the extent of universities’ investment in AI in regard to running their programs; to establish universities’ extent of integration of AI in running their academic programs and to determine the way forward on integration of AI on university programs in Kenya. The study used survey design to collect primary data of which three Public universities were sampled, out of which 3 deputy vice chancellor academics,15 chairs of departments 5 from each of the selected universities,3 university directors of ICT and 45 undergraduate students drawn from the various faculties of the three universities selected for the study. The study will be underpinned by Technology Acceptance Model by Davis (1989). The findings of the study showed that in all the three universities surveyed there existed AI policy frameworks. However, there were minimal levels of invested and integration of AI into the mainstream university programs. The findings of the study have implications for all stakeholder engagement and sensitization in regard to the importance of investing into and integrating AI into the university programs as a way being in tandem with the current digitized, efficient, cost-effective, technologically innovative model towards globalized trends.

Abstract

The principal's leadership plays an important role in building an inclusive school culture to support social space-based education. Inclusive education emphasizes equal access, active participation, and an environment that supports student diversity. This literature review aims to analyze how principal leadership can create an inclusive school culture that encourages healthy social interactions and improves student well- being. This research uses a literature review approach with descriptive- qualitative methods to analyze inclusive educational leadership theories and best practices that have been implemented in various schools. The findings show that school principals who have an inclusive vision are able to implement strategic policies, build effective communication, and collaborate with various parties to create a friendly learning environment for all students. Case studies from various countries also reveal that a social booth-based approach can increase student engagement, reduce discrimination, and strengthen the values of tolerance in school communities. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of educational policies that support inclusive leadership training for school principals as well as strengthening regulations related to inclusive schools. In addition, school principals need to adopt a transformative and collaborative leadership model to ensure that an inclusive culture can be implemented sustainably. With the right strategy, schools can become spaces that not only provide academic education, but also shape the social character of students who are more empathetic, tolerant and ready to face life in a diverse society.
