Abstract

This study aims to analyze the terms and describe the lexical meaning contained in the term marriage of the Toba Batak tribe. The author uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The results of the analysis of myths in the umpasa above, it can be concluded that it is an oral literary work that comes from reason or the thoughts of previous ancestors. That is why the Toba Batak umpasa cannot be separated from the myths of the past. The myths that are still very developed in society, especially in umpasa, are a). Hula-hula has the highest authority in the Toba Batak culture. This myth applies depending on the context. Where realistically hula-hula is basically the same as other positions. There is no dominant position. All are equal before the law. b). Sahala is identified with magic, security, wisdom, and harmony. Where if judging in reality sahala is a spirit that has no control and supernatural powers. c). Padan is associated as a sacred covenant. The assumption that Padan is sacred because it is believed will bring disaster if it is not kept. d). Children are a symbol of wealth. The Toba Batak people fully believe that having many children will also have a lot of sustenance. This belief is no stranger to the ears. Those who do not have children will be considered poor by the local community, because no one will continue the lineage

Abstract

Language is the way of humans perceives their environment. This paper aim described the study of color semantics in Mandailing language. This is because color is one of the most important elements in human life to convey a certain impression and is an interesting topic to analyze because the vocabulary of color in each language is unique. On this occasion, the authors used the Natural Semantic Metal Language approach to describe Colors in Mandailing Language by using semantic studies of connotation. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method that produces word descriptions. The data technique uses the technique of recording, observing and because of the methods used to obtain data so that it is done by recording using language, both spoken language (Mandailing community speech) and writing related to naming color names. Basically, Mandailing culture recognizes 12 colors, namely red (rara), brown (coklat), gray (abu-abu), purple (bunga torung), orange (pinang), pink (merah jambu), green (rata), light green (rata bulung pisang), blue (rata ombun), white (bontar), black (lomlom) and yellow (gorsing). The function of color in the Mandailing language is also used as a means of communication and social adaptation. In terms of meaning, the color in the Mandailing language also has connotative meanings such as dysphemism and eupemism. The research was conducted in Matondang Village - Palas, North Sumatra with 100% ethnic population in Mandailing. The results of this study indicate that the naming of colors in the Mandailing community in Matondang Village is caused by experience in seeing an object so that when seeing the same color as the object, the naming of the color name appears with the object's name.

Abstract

This paper generally discusses and describes the Utilization of the Coal Tapai Party Tradition which aims to increase the cultural and educational values of students. This study is also expected to be a source of teaching materials in Indonesian subjects with local wisdom values and can provide strengthening character education for students. This study uses a type of descriptive writing with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include; literature study, which is a series of activities related to the methods of collecting library data, reading and taking notes and processing research materials. Further field studies which include; interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. In checking the validity of the data, the researcher uses a triangulation technique where this technique is used to check the validity of the data using something else. The results obtained in this study are by utilizing the Tradition of the Coal Tapai Party, the Cultural and Educational Values of Students, especially at MTs Nurhasanah Labuhan Ruku, are increasing. The Tapai Party tradition is one of the unique and interesting traditions that is celebrated every year by the Batu Bara Malay community to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. This tradition contains many values that can be taught to students, including cultural and educational values. By knowing and utilizing tapai party traditions as teaching materials, students can increase cultural and educational values, love local cultural wisdom and can preserve it for the next generation.

Abstract

This research paper is a keen observation of Odia Mahabharat which is commonly known as Saralamahabharata. It is a very interesting fact that a vast monograph with several novelties, this Mahabharat was authored by a Dalit poet of Odisha. He has depicted Jagannatha the Mass deity of Odisha as lord Krishna and tried to establish the inseparability within. His in-depth study and understanding of the mythologies indiscriminately establish the accessibility of each caste to the spectrum of knowledge and knowledge systems as well. His association with Jagannatyha Culture as well as with the Vaisnavite system and the famous Sanskrit epic Mahabharat confirms the association of each segment of Indian Social Order in each aspect of social and cultural life.

Abstract

Different societies and cultures have varying values and norms in interpersonal and intergroup interaction. Where the communication is intracultural, the norms hardly constitute any hindrances, but in intercultural communication, the varying values could pose serious challenges. Along with the rapid globalization of the era, the public is increasingly paying attention to intercultural communication as an important component of success, both in life and at work. It is general knowledge that human beings cannot live without communication and due to the influence of globalization; communication is no longer confined solely to a community and national level but also on an international scale. Thus, intercultural communication is now more important than it ever was in every facet of society. Yet the effective intercultural communication needed for the aforementioned success is difficult to achieve. The paper adopted the library research method used to interrogate literature by getting data from secondary sources which will provide valuable useful materials for the study. The paper also conceptually discusses intercultural communication, obstacles, and possible solutions to these challenges in a multi-cultural state. Finding from the study suggests that working intercultural communication skill cannot only assist in eliminating communication issues like conflicts and misunderstanding but also promote a mutually beneficial relationship with parties involved in the communication process.

Abstract

The history of civilization of the Ohoi Ngefuit people proves that the majority of the Ohoi Ngefuit people are the result of the migration of the Balinese people in ancient times, this can be seen from the cultural similarities and the performances of traditional rituals that are similar to the traditional Balinese culture and rituals. This Panah Dance originally came from a war dance, using bows and arrows as properties that can inspire and inflame the courage of men, but it is different from the Panah Dance in the ohoi ngefuit Panah Dance which is used by using ynayian instruments by the dancers. The Panah Dance of the ohoi ngefut community is different from the Kei people in the Kei islands. This research uses a descriptive method. The purpose of this study is to find out how much the Panah Dance culture of the Ohoi Ngefuit community is maintained until now.

Abstract

In order to develop or train students' characters through introduction and character development in the fundamental education, the Longko culture must be effectively utilized. One example is the application of speaking with older people as elementary school students or as adults when speaking or interacting with seniors. Utilize standard vocabulary to make yourself understood in conversations. The deskriptiv-qualitative methodology used in this study. The methodology used to analyze the data using Miles and Huberman's model consists of data collection, data reduction, data visualization, and the identification and verification of conclusions.

Abstract

The writing of this article is to understand Papuan people and their culture starting from the form of race, hair, skin, population distribution, customs manifested in the marriage system. This research method is socio-ethnographic, namely to provide an illustration that Papuans have one identity and a structured culture that is different, although not all of them with other ethnic groups in Indonesia. Based on the results of the study, it was found that race, hair, skin and the type or pattern of leadership as well as the existing marriage system were increasingly changing following the flow of globalization. Not all aspects of Papuan identity should change, some have to be authenticated and therefore traditional leaders need to play a maximum role in caring for, maintaining so that the values and aesthetics of cultural life can be seen and preserved.

Abstract

This research finds out how far the noble values are contained in the Bangka Belitung folklores. These values are the result of the human mind reflection which will indirectly be revealed in folklore. Through the analysis of the noble value's description of each folklore, then it is simply sorted and observed which values are the most prominent. Qualitatively, there are 28 types of noble values with a total of 103 occurrences of noble values from the combination of the five Bangka Belitung folklores. The more dominant noble values are 20 social values, 11 hard work values, 10 compassion values, religious values, 8 culture and caring values. As for honesty and tenacity, they have 4 values. The noble values contained in the Bangka Folklore is relevant in the current state of individualism. The spirit of social care, hard work, compassion, and religious values persists in rural communities in Bangka Belitung.

Abstract

Myth in Maya ethnic, West Papua, Indonesia is an old story contained truth element that is truly believed as a story that ever happened in the past time because it is supported by inheritance culture feature in society. Myth is a source of important information used to dig and understand the way of local people think which is combined and facilitate in the form of verbal narrative. Raja Ampat kingdom Mythology talks about the origin of Raja Ampat name and Maya ancestor as well which is believed comes from Maleo bird egg. This story is considered as a holy story by the owner and it preserves in Kali Raja ritual in South Waigeo. This ritual is done annually with the purpose of cleaning and changing “cloth” of king’s stone or seventh ancestor of Maya that has aleready become a stone and chooses to live at the place where they ancestors were born that is Kali Raja. The belief of the truth of the element of Maya story can be seen from the dancer and ritual actor as well. This writing used verbal literature of sociology. The source of the data is the script document of Raja Ampat myth with an object of this study is the viewpoint of live and worldview.
