Abstract

Linguistic landscape is a practice of using language in public spaces. This research describes the use of language found in the labeling of historical heritage objects, especially those stored at the Madura Mandhilaras Pamekasan Museum (MMP), using a linear landscape approach. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods which will explain the use of language along with the percentage of language variants at the Mandhilaras Pamekasan Museum. The objects taken from this museum are 200 photographs that have been captured. of these photos, the number of labels that use monolingualism is 23, then those that use bilingualism are 35, while those that use it are 0. These photos will later be discussed from two discussion elements, namely Monolingualism, Bilingualism and Multilingualism to be used as an analysis. The research results show that the language used is dominantly monolingual. In essence, language use that uses one language is considered monolingual, while those that use two languages include bilingual, and finally if you use 3 languages, it is considered multilingual. The results of the research show that the language used is predominantly monolingual. Keywords: Language; museum; pictures; reasearch

Abstract

There is a lot of potential of Syaikhona Kholil, a religious tourism in Bangkalan in attracting both domestic and foreign tourists. By providing a unique cultural appeal and promoting local identity, speaking Madurese might improve tourism (Sukardi, 2022). However, despite having a large vocabulary, Madurese is still underused in this regard. Through local language and cultural exchange, this research seeks to maximize the use of Madurese in religious tourism at Syaikhona Kholil. This strategy encourages the preservation of Madurese culture while increasing visitor participation (Purnama, 2023). To evaluate the influence of language on visitor experience, the study included stakeholder interviews, site surveys, and visitor surveys. The main objectives of this study are to identify the extent to which Madurese is used in the development of religious tourism at Syaikhona Kholil, assess the impact of its use on the tourist experience, and develop optimal strategies to increase the use of Madurese in the tourism sector. Findings are expected to significantly contribute to the enhancement of religious tourism in Bangkalan, especially through language and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Communication in human interaction often involves meanings that are not explicitly stated but inferred through context, a phenomenon known as conversational implicature. This study examines conversational implicature in the animated film “Up” (2009), focusing on the dialogues of the main characters, Carl Fredricksen and Russell. Drawing on Grice’s theory of conversational implicature, this research distinguishes between generalized conversational implicature and particularized conversational implicature. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the data were collected from selected dialogue transcripts and analyzed based on their contextual meanings. The findings reveal that both types of conversational implicature occur in the film; however, particularized conversational implicature appears more frequently than generalized conversational implicature. This dominance indicates that the interpretation of meaning in the film’s dialogues largely depends on specific situational and relational contexts. The study demonstrates that conversational implicature plays an important role in conveying character relationships, emotional depth, and narrative development in animated films.
