Abstract

Introduction and objective: Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement is important in diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) is regarded as the ’’gold standard’’ for measuring IOP. The non-contact tonometer (NCT) commonly used in ophthalmological practices and has potential advantages as the minimum risk of infection. This study was undertaken to compare IOP measured by GAT and NCT in different range of IOP. Methods: This was a cross sectional, observational analytic study wherein glaucoma patients visiting a hospital were included. IOP measurements were performed using GAT and NCT. Subjects were grouped into lower (<21 mmHg) IOP and higher (≥ 21 mmHg) IOP. The tonometer inter-method for IOP values were compared and analyzed. Results: IOP of 82 glaucomatous eyes were measured (46 eyes in the lower IOP group and 36 eyes in the higher IOP group). The mean of paired difference between GAT and NCT in the lower IOP group was 0.22±2.5 mmHg (p>0.05) and in the higher IOP group was 1.68±4.1 mmHg (p<0.05). The NCT underestimated GAT measurement in 67% eyes in higher IOP level group. Bland-Altman plot showed a good NCT-GAT agreement in the lower IOP group. Conclusion: Pressure readings of GAT and NCT was comparable in the subjects with lower IOP range

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is still occurred among medical students worldwide, with a prevalence range of 34,38% to 97,9%. Acne vulgaris, which affects the pilosebaceous unit, is suspected to be related to sleep quality because it involves many hormones, including melatonin, which is associated to sleep. Melatonin can suppress androgens, which play a crucial role in Acne vulgaris pathogenesis. Besides, some studies said that melatonin has a role to suppress inflammation. Medical students also often experience poor sleep quality. Previous studies on the correlation between sleep quality and Acne vulgaris have shown varied results. Objective: This research was conducted to confirm the correlation between sleep quality and Acne vulgaris. Methods: A total of 195 medical students from Tarumanagara University classes of 2021 and 2022 participated in this study by answering the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Acne vulgaris questionnaires. Samples were taken using non-random consecutive sampling. This research used an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Results: The study found that 92 respondents (47,2%) had good sleep quality, while 103 respondents had poor sleep quality (52,8%). A total of 123 respondents (63,15) experiences Acne vulgaris. Chi-square statistical analysis using SPSS software showed a significant correlation between sleep quality and Acne vulgaris (p-value <0,05; PRR = 1,261; 95% CI = 1,261-1,576). Abstract

Background: Recent studies highlight the therapeutic potential of yoga and meditation in pregnancy, particularly for managing anxiety, nausea, and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP). Although some clinical research has established yoga’s benefits, the specific effects of Kundalini Yoga on anxiety and NVP during early pregnancy remain underexplored. Objective: This study examines the effectiveness of Kundalini Yoga in reducing anxiety and NVP levels among pregnant women in their first trimester. Methods: A true experimental study with a pre-posttest randomized controlled design was conducted. A total of 50 pregnant women attending Polindes Mancon, Nganjuk, were randomly assigned to either the treatment group (receiving Kundalini Yoga intervention) or the control group (receiving standard prenatal care). Anxiety and NVP levels were measured using validated questionnaires before and after a four-week intervention period. Results: The treatment group exhibited significant reductions in anxiety (p = 0.039) and NVP levels (p = 0.000) compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Within-group analysis showed that anxiety levels significantly decreased in the treatment group (p = 0.002), while no significant change was observed in the control group (p = 0.102). Additionally, both groups demonstrated improvements in NVP from pre- to post-intervention, though the effect was more pronounced in the treatment group (p = 0.000) compared to the control group (p = 0.013, p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that Kundalini Yoga is an effective intervention for reducing anxiety and NVP during early pregnancy, potentially improving both the psychological and physical well-being of expectant mothers. Future research should explore long-term effects and optimal implementation strategies for integrating Kundalini Yoga into prenatal care programs.
