Abstract

Background: Indonesia's national blood supply still faces a structural deficit of 1.5 million bags per year. Generation Z (Gen Z) students are positioned as the primary target for addressing this shortage, but their participation is hampered by low blood donor literacy and psychological factors. This study aims to determine the Blood Donor Literacy Profile among Gen Z students in Yogyakarta by shifting the paradigm from traditional cognitive testing to mapping modern, gender-responsive health literacy. Methods: This study involved a population of 207 individuals, with a purposive sampling technique involving 68 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire that had previously been validated. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis with a frequency distribution. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that the respondents were predominantly male (51.5%) compared to female (48.5%). From a cognitive perspective, no respondents (0%) were found with insufficient knowledge; the entire sample was evenly divided into the good (50%) and sufficient (50%) categories. However, there was a cognitive asymmetry, with females outperforming males in the good knowledge category (26.4% compared to 23.5%). This was influenced by female students' higher health consciousness and critical approach to filtering online information, while male students tended to be pragmatic and less aware of the long-term biological benefits of blood donation. Conclusion: This study's conclusions confirm that digital blood donation campaign strategies on campus should be designed asymmetrically; the approach for male students emphasizes direct digital push marketing based on concrete actions, while for female students, it focuses on strengthening donor nutrition literacy.

Abstract

Background: Temporary rejection of potential blood donors due to ineligibility can impact blood availability. This study aims to describe the incidence, contributing factors, and characteristics of the percentage of temporary rejections of potential blood donors at the Gunungkidul Regency PMI Blood Donor Unit (UDD) in 2025 based on donor requirements. Methods: This descriptive quantitative study used a cross-sectional approach. Secondary data was collected from the Gunungkidul Regency PMI Blood Donor Management Information System (SIMDONDAR) for the period January–December 2025. Using total sampling, a sample of 3,133 potential donors who experienced temporary rejections was obtained. Data were analyzed using frequency distributions and percentages. Results and Discussion: The majority of potential donors who were temporarily rejected were in the 25–44 age group (1,528 people (48.8%), and 1,829 were female (54.8%). The main factors causing rejection were medical history (hypertension, hypotension, medication use, and post-surgery) in 1,145 people (36.5%), followed by low hemoglobin (HB) levels in 1,070 people (34.2%), and high HB levels in 509 people (16.2%). Other factors included other reasons in 151 people (4.8%), failed blood sampling in 140 people (4.5%), high-risk behavior in 64 people (2.0%), weight less than 50 kg in 35 people (1.1%), age under 17 years old in 19 people (0.6%), and travel history to high-risk areas in 0 people (0%). Conclusion: Temporary rejections of potential blood donors at the Gunungkidul PMI Blood Donor Unit (UDD) were dominated by productive age groups and women, with the main contributing factors being medical history and hemoglobin level issues.   Keywords: Blood Donation; Donor Selection; Temporary Refusal.

Abstract

Background: Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) play a crucial role in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services. To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health management, the Umbulharjo I Community Health Center launched an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in April 2023. This study evaluates the system's implementation using the PIECES framework—which encompasses Performance, Information, Economics, Control, Efficiency, and Service—to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Methods: This study adopted a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through interviews, direct observation, and document review involving healthcare workers using the system, then analyzed across the six dimensions of the PIECES framework. Results and Discussion: Results indicate that the EMR generally improves service delivery and data management. The system is easy to operate and supports work efficiency, although its performance is highly dependent on stable internet connectivity. The information generated is relevant but not entirely accurate or complete, especially for population-based reports. Economically, the system reduces operational costs and administrative workload. However, limited supporting facilities—such as laptops, scanners, and electronic signature devices—remain a challenge. Security is maintained through user authentication and an internal network, but data backup is still performed manually. Although the EMR facilitates services, technical glitches and incomplete implementation in some units, including maternal and child health services, continue to pose challenges. Conclusion: The implementation of the EMR at Umbulharjo I Community Health Center has made a positive contribution to health management and service quality. However, improvements in infrastructure, user training, and system features are needed to achieve more effective and comprehensive use.

Abstract

Background: Grade 2 hypertension is one of the main causes of blood donation rejections, as blood pressure exceeds the recommended limit. This condition poses a health risk to donors and can impact blood availability at the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit (UTD PMI) in Yogyakarta City. Objective: This study aims to determine the rejection rate of male donors with grade 2 hypertension based on age, blood type, and donor status (new or repeat) in 2025. Methods: This quantitative descriptive study used a retrospective study design. The study population included all 37,887 male donors at the UTD PMI in Yogyakarta City in 2025. The sample was drawn using a total sampling technique, including all 1,270 male donors rejected due to grade 2 hypertension. Data analysis used a frequency distribution in percentage form. Results and Discussion: Donor rejection due to grade 2 hypertension was most common in the 46–60 age group (701 donors (55.2%), with blood type O (507 donors (40.0%), and with repeat donor status (1,185 donors (93.3%). Conclusion: In 2025, rejections of male donors with grade 2 hypertension at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Blood Transfusion Unit (UTD) in Yogyakarta City were dominated by the 46–60 age group, blood type O, and repeat donors. Screening efforts, ongoing health education, and promotive and preventive programs are needed to reduce the rate of donor rejections.

Abstract

Background: Lack of physical activity in teenagers due to technological developments risks disrupting blood pressure stability, such as triggering hypertension. Preliminary studies at SMF Indonesia Yogyakarta Vocational School show that students' physical activity is still relatively light. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and blood pressure in class XI students at SMK SMF Indonesia Yogyakarta. Method: This quantitative research uses a cross-sectional design. The research sample consisted of 43 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Physical activity was measured using the GPAQ (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire) questionnaire in MET units, while blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data analysis was carried out using the Kendall's Tau test because both variables are on an ordinal scale. Results and Discussion: The majority of respondents had a level of physical activity in the light category (58%) and blood pressure in the normal category (86%). The results of statistical tests show that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and blood pressure ($p = 0.042$) with the strength of the correlation being relatively weak ($r = 0.298$). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and blood pressure in class XI students of SMK SMF Indonesia Yogyakarta. Adolescents are advised to increase physical activity to maintain blood pressure stability.

Abstract

Background: Inaccuracy in diagnostic coding of the top ten outpatient diseases at Puskesmas Ngaglik II Sleman, compromises health data quality. This issue is driven by coding practices that deviate from established policies and suboptimal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Methods: This descriptive qualitative study utilized a cross-sectional design to evaluate physicians, medical records staff, and 95 medical records from December 2025, selected via the Slovin formula and simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews, then analyzed using a fishbone diagram (5M framework) and the CARL method for problem prioritization. Results and Discussion: Diagnostic coding was performed directly by healthcare providers without verification by medical records professionals. Coding inaccuracies were attributed to man (competence), method (unspecific (SOP)), machine (incomplete diagnostic codes in the SIMPUS health information system), and money (lack of budget for training). The CARL method successfully determined the primary priority problem requiring immediate intervention. Conclusion: Improving coding accuracy requires enhancing staff competence, refining specific SOP, and conducting regular evaluations and training. Abstract

Background: The accuracy of diagnosis codes significantly impacts morbidity statistics, epidemiological studies, and clinical decision-making. However, a preliminary study at Nur Hidayah Hospital, Bantul, showed that the rate of diagnosis code inaccuracy remained high, reaching 60% (6 out of 10 medical records), even though the treatment code inaccuracy was 0%. This study aimed to analyze the coding process, the percentage of accuracy, and the factors causing inaccurate diagnosis and treatment codes in perinatal inpatients at the hospital. Methods: This descriptive, qualitative, cross-sectional study was conducted in February–March 2025. Subjects included coding staff and the head of medical records (triangulation), with 26 medical records of perinatal inpatients from 2023–2024 as subjects. The coding process was conducted post-assembly and was regulated by the official SOP of Nur Hidayah Hospital. Results and Discussion: Implementation of inpatient perinatal case coding at Nur Hidayah Hospital, Bantul, is suboptimal in the diagnosis sector (inaccuracy reached 53.8%), although the treatment sector is very good (100% accuracy). This high rate of inaccurate diagnosis codes is rooted in a combination of internal management factors (People, Method, Money), including a lack of uniformity in staff competency and accuracy, a lack of support from specific coding procedures, and the hospital's failure to allocate a budget for capacity building (training). Conclusion: Perinatal case coding at Nur Hidayah Hospital, Bantul, is suboptimal, with a diagnosis code inaccuracy rate reaching 53.8%, despite 100% accuracy in the treatment codes. This problem is caused by factors such as People (staff have not been trained, are not thorough, and have different understandings of lead terms), Method (the new SOP regulates the technical aspects of the electronic ICD, not the coding method), and Money (a training budget exists but has not been realized).   Keywords: Coding Inaccuracy, Perinatal; Hospital.
