Abstract

The rapid growth of social media use among adolescents has raised questions about its psychological impact, particularly in relation to self-regulation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between motivation in social media use and self-regulation behavior in adolescents. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 204 adolescent respondents through online questionnaires. The instruments used included the Social Media Motivation Scale (Pertegel et al., 2019) and a Self-Regulation Scale based on Zimmerman’s theory of self-regulated learning. Due to the non-normal distribution of one of the variables, Spearman’s Rho correlation analysis was used. The results showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.456, p < 0.05) between motivation in social media use and self-regulation, indicating that adolescents with stronger and more purposeful motivations for using social media tend to demonstrate higher levels of self-regulatory behavior. These findings suggest that social media, when used with clear intent, can support the development of self-regulation in adolescents. Implications for education, parenting, and further research are discussed.

Abstract

The budget efficiency policy instructed by the government has triggered a wave of rejection from student elements in various regions of Indonesia, one of which is manifested in the Semarang Sues Action (Aksi Semarang Menggugat). This study aims to understand the motivation and manifestation of college students' collective action in the Semarang Sues Action. This study uses a case study approach and collects data from in-depth interviews with eight participants, participatory observation, and digital documentation. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis. The results show that college students in Semarang interpret the budget efficiency policy as a form of government injustice towards the education sector. The perception of this injustice arouses anger, which encourages them to be involved in collective action, both digital activism and demonstrations. Demonstrations delineate actions that completely organized by college student organizations, while digital activism is more fluid and not completely organized by them. College students use both forms of action to express emotions and demand the government to change the policies. This study contributes to political psychology by emphasizing the relationship between identity, perceptions of injustice, and anger in driving college student collective action. In addition, the study highlights the role of college student organizations as pressure groups that drive the mobilization of action, and the role of digital media as a free space that escalates the mobilization of ideas in the digital era.

Abstract

In a dimension of life, there are many phases passed and faced until the end of life. The elderly period is a phase of life where individuals begin to evaluate their life journey in every experience that has been passed. However, not all aged can easily find the meaning of life, especially those who live in nursing homes. This study aims to explore the description of the meaning of life in the elderly who live in nursing homes using a qualitative approach method with descriptive phenomenology research type. Data were collected through interviews and observations of three elderly individuals who have lived in a nursing home for more than one year. The individuals are able to communicate effectively, maintain good health, and are free from significant health problems such as dementia or psychotic disorders. The data collected was then analyzed using phenomenological analysis using Giorgi's five stages. The results showed that there were variations in the experience of finding the meaning of life; participants M and A showed success in achieving the meaning of life through meaning of life, self-commitment, directed activities and social support, so that participants M and A feel happy and have positive social relationships. On the other hand, participant M does not succeed in finding the meaning of life and experiences life in the orphanage as suffering, characterized by feelings of alienation, disconnection, and loneliness. This study used a small sample size (only 3), and perhaps the findings cannot be generalized, but these findings are expected to provide an overview of the meaning of life in elderly retirees living in a nursing home, and can contribute to the development of psychology, especially topics related to the meaning of life. A suggestion for the future: the researcher can examine how social support in nursing home relates to increasing the meaningfulness of life for the elderly.

Abstract

Vocational education, especially at the Vocational High School (SMK) level, plays an important role in preparing young workers who are ready to face the challenges of the world of work. Despite this, SMK graduates have been contributing to Indonesia's Open Unemployment Rate in recent years. One of the contributing factors is students' inadequate work readiness. Previous research found that internal factors have the greatest contribution to work readiness. Hardiness and optimism are two of the internal factors that are still limitedly studied in work readiness. This study aims to determine the relationship between hardiness and optimism in job readiness in vocational students. This study used quantitative methodology, with a research sample of 69 students in class XI at a vocational school in Surakarta obtained through a simple random sampling technique. The measuring instruments used are the Work Readiness Scale (?=0.944), Hardiness Scale (?=0.891), and Life Orientation Test-Revised (?=0,760). The multiple regression analysis results showed a significant relationship between hardiness and optimism in job readiness in vocational students. Hardiness and optimism together contribute an influence on work readiness of 59.7%. When tested partially, only hardiness showed a significant relationship with work readiness, while optimism did not. Educational institutions are advised to increase students' hardiness and optimism to be ready to enter the world of work.

Abstract

Cyberbullying has increased alongside the rise of internet penetration during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to negative consequences that necessitate protective factors. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is linked to the ability to manage emotions, especially in stressful situations such as cyberbullying. This study aims to analyze research on Emotional Intelligence (EI) in it’s role that influence and mitigate cyberbullying behaviors. This study employs a Scoping Review method, with data sourced from three databases (sciencedirect, scopus and springerlink), focusing on studies examining the relationship between EI and cyberbullying from 2019 to 2024. The findings indicate that Emotional Intelligence (EI) is key in understanding and preventing cyberbullying. These findings highlight the importance of promoting EI to foster a healthier online environment. However, this study does not comprehensively explore the effects of EI on cyberbullying due to limitations in population scope and time frame. Future research is expected to delve deeper into this topic and include a broader range of populations and study periods.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between cyberbullying victimisation and self-harm behaviour among adolescents in Surakarta, Indonesia. Cyberbullying victimization, as a form of online aggression, has been linked to various adverse psychological outcomes, including self-harm. Methods: A quantitative research design was employed, using cluster sampling to select participants. The sample consisted of 803 adolescents aged 12-18 years. Data were collected using the Self-Harm Behavior Scale (? = 0.841) and the Cyberbullying Victimization Scale (? = 0.932). A simple linear regression analysis was conducted to test the hypothesis. Results: The study revealed a significant positive relationship between cyberbullying victimization and self-harm behavior (F = 12.256, p = 0.000). Cyberbullying victimization had a moderate correlation with self- harm (R = 0.4) and accounted for 15.7% of the variance in self-harm behavior (R² = 0.157). Conclusions: Cyberbullying victimization is significantly associated with self-harm behavior among adolescents in Surakarta. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to reduce cyberbullying and support adolescents at risk of self-harm. The study contributes to the literature on adolescent mental health and provides a basis for future research and policy recommendations.

Abstract

Entering the education revolution 5.0, the digitalization of learning in higher education is growing increasingly massive, but on the other hand there are still many students who have problems in Self-Regulated Learning (SLR) which has an impact on achieving learning outcomes that are not optimal. This study aims to describe student's application of SRL in digital learning along with things that influence student’s SRL in their learning practices. This study is a scoping review sourced from the ScienceDirect and EBSCOhost databases. Population (P) in this literature study are college students, Concept (C) that will be studied is self-regulated learning (SRL) and Context (C) in this study is digital learning. The publication year limit is between 2019-2024, resulting in a total of 71 articles. Duplication testing was carried out using Zotero and Rayyan to obtain 12 articles that met the inclusion criteria, then continued with the charting process using the Elicit application which was then validated using manual analysis from the author. From the results of the study it can be concluded that student's implementation of SRL strategies is reflected in their independence in using various digital learning tools. The form of SRL strategy in student digital learning includes personal functions, behavioral functions and environmental functions. Apart from that, there is the role of individual meaning of the learning environment which also influences the interaction of these three functions in forming students' SRL. Things that influence SRL in student digital learning include internal factors and external factors. In this study, the dynamics of SRL function and its determinants are discussed using a multi-perspective approach.

Abstract

The prevalence of the phenomenon of quarter life crisis (QLC) among fresh graduates has become increasingly evident in the context of contemporary social and economic challenges. QLC is characterized by a state of confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty regarding the transition to adulthood. This psychological distress is further exacerbated by the prevailing economic instability and high unemployment rates in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to identify the causes, impacts, and coping strategies of QLC among fresh graduates. The study will be guided by a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method that adheres to the PRISMA guidelines. The findings indicated that social support, social media use, and economic conditions exerted a substantial influence on the QLC experience. The emotional distress experienced by the subjects was mitigated, to some extent, by the support provided by family and friends. Conversely, excessive social media use had a deleterious effect on the subjects' stress levels and self-confidence issues. The repercussions of the QLC encompassed elevated levels of emotional distress, familial discord, and uncertainty in discerning a vocational trajectory. This study underscores the necessity for suitable interventions to assist young adults in coping with the challenges posed by QLC and cultivating effective adaptation strategies.
