Abstract

Somatic symptoms such as headaches or indigestion in university students are serious problems that often exacerbate mental health deterioration and impair academic performance. Unfortunately, non-pharmacological interventions such as spiritual approaches are still rarely considered as practical solutions. Despite numerous studies attesting to the link between spirituality and physical health, there has been no systematic synthesis of research in the past 5 years (2020-2025) that addresses how spiritual practices, such as meditation or religious rituals, can mechanistically reduce these symptoms, especially among culturally diverse university students. This systematic review addresses this gap by analyzing multiple studies from Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, and Proquest selected through PRISMA guidelines after screening 4.132 articles. Inclusion criteria focused on studies that measured the impact of spirituality on university students' somatic symptoms, rather than on mental health in general. Systematic review revealed three key findings: (1) Mindfulness-based spiritual practices (e.g., yoga, prayer) lower biological stress markers (e.g., cortisol), directly alleviating symptoms through mind-body integration; (2) Group spiritual rituals (e.g., congregational meditation) are more effective in non-Western contexts, emphasizing cultural alignment; and (3) Long-term spiritual engagement enhances physical resilience, whereas brief interventions yield only temporary relief. Notably, stable spirituality rooted in strong beliefs reduced physiological stress responses, while uncertain spiritual exploration exacerbated symptoms. Cross-cultural studies highlighted spirituality’s role in boosting positive affect and social support, indirectly mitigating somatic complaints. However, reliance on self-reported data and inconsistent spirituality measurement tools limit causal inferences. This review underscores spirituality’s potential as an adaptive intervention for students’ physical health, contingent on standardized measurement frameworks, culturally sensitive approaches, and longitudinal studies. Universities should prioritize integrating spirituality into holistic well-being programs, fostering both individual practices and community-based rituals to sustain psychophysiological resilience.

Abstract

The advancement of technology has led to the increasing popularity of social media across all ages in this digital era due to its diverse benefits in daily life. Notably, 60% of social media users are adolescents. Emotional instability in adolescents frequently gives rise to developmental issues, including behavioral problems such as aggression. A prominent behavioral issue emerging in this digital age is online aggressive behavior, commonly referred to as cyber-aggression. Prior research has demonstrated that adolescents active on social media have engaged in cyber- aggression. This study aims to identify the factors influencing cyber-aggression behavior among adolescents in the digital era. The research design employed is a scoping review. Articles were searched using three databases: Scopus, SpringerLink, and Semantic Scholar. The initial search yielded 10.176 articles, and subsequent screening based on inclusion criteria resulted in 6 eligible articles. The review findings indicate risk and protective factors. Risk factors that come from adolescent’s personal include such as cyber moral disengagement, tendency to worry about others' thoughts and opinions, aggression traits, and also the level of adolescents' perception of threat. Situational factors include such as authoritarian parenting, level of internet exposure, and the amount of time adolescents spend on the internet. While protective factors, identified come from adolescent’s microsystem, such as parents, peers and school climate. Further research is warranted to investigate spesifically the potential protective factors to mitigate cyber-aggression among adolescents in the digital era.

Abstract

This article outlines a protocol for conducting a scoping review on the use of clinical hypnosis in chronic illness management. Chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer contribute significantly to global morbidity, mortality, and healthcare burden. While management strategies typically include medication, lifestyle changes, and psychological interventions, clinical hypnosis has emerged as a promising complementary approach. Clinical hypnosis, which involves techniques of deep relaxation, focused attention, and therapeutic suggestion, has shown potential in alleviating both psychological and physical symptoms associated with chronic illnesses. However, the body of evidence remains fragmented, particularly in terms of high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs). This scoping review aims to systematically map existing RCTs that examine the application of clinical hypnosis in chronic illness management. The protocol follows the PRISMA-ScR framework and will involve comprehensive searches across PubMed and Scopus. Studies will be included if they are RCTs involving adult patients with clinically diagnosed chronic illnesses and utilize clinical hypnosis as an intervention. Key data to be extracted include intervention characteristics, outcomes measured, and methodological features. The results of this review will identify current evidence trends, gaps in the literature, and implications for future research and clinical practice in the field of integrative chronic care.

Abstract

This research aims to get an overview of a strong family system from the perspective of Minangkabau women. A qualitative interview method id used to achieve the research objective. Two types of participants were involved in this research: Bundo Kanduang and ethnic Minangkabau wives. The number of participants in this study were 4 Minangkabau ethnic wives and 1 Bundo Kanduang. As for getting participants, the researcher used snowballing sampling. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews via mobile phone and Zoom and then analyzed using inductive thematic analysis using data analysis software MAXQDA. The study’s result revealed differences in the ideal and factual family systems of ethnic Minangkabau women. However, two ideal aspects still exist in Minangkabau ethnic families, namely the application of Islamic values and the Qur’an in Minang family life, as well as the division of men's roles as breadwinners and the dominance of women in the household. The extended family in the results of this study is the samande family, which has a crucial role as a strong batih family support system. In other words, it can be said that the Minangkabau family does not necessarily only become a nuclear family today.

Abstract

The profession of correctional officers is classified as a high-stress occupation with significant task complexity. In addition to being responsible for the security of correctional facilities, officers are also tasked with the social rehabilitation of inmates under demanding, dynamic, and emotionally challenging working conditions. These multifaceted demands can lead to psychological fatigue and ultimately result in burnout, a chronic psychological condition characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism toward work, and reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout is shaped by the interaction of various risk and protective factors, stemming from both individual and organizational domains. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach guided by the PRISMA framework. Articles were retrieved from major databases including Scopus, Science Direct, EBSCO, and SAGEpub using the following keywords: ("burnout" OR "emotional exhaustion" OR "cynicism" OR "depersonalization" OR "reduced personal accomplishment") AND ("correctional officers" OR "correctional staff" OR "prison staff" OR "prison officers")). Inclusion criteria comprised English- language articles published between 2015 and 2025, utilizing quantitative research designs, involving correctional officers as participants, and addressing risk or protective factors related to burnout. Analysis of the selected studies revealed that burnout among correctional officers is influenced by a range of individual and organizational factors. The most commonly reported risk factors include work– family conflict, insomnia, and prolonged occupational stress. Conversely, resilience and social support emerged as prominent protective factors. These findings emphasize that burnout among correctional officers is not solely the result of high work pressure, but also reflects the inadequacy of psychosocial resources within the work environment.

Abstract

One of the developmental tasks of adolescence is making career decisions. High school students are at the stage of making career decisions. Many high school students are still unsure and unable to make career decisions. Career Decision Making Self-efficacy based on Bandura's (1986) Social Cognition Theory provides an understanding of how self-efficacy plays a role in making career decisions. This article aims to show the variables that are the antecedents and consequences of career decision self-efficacy. For this reason, the method used is a Scoping Review to map the antecedents and consequences of Career Decision Making Self-efficacy. PRISMA is used to assist the selection process of articles to be studied. The scope and review were conducted using the PRISMA approach and three databases: Springer Link, Scopus, and GARUDA. The search and selection process was finalized after determining the included and excluded criteria. The search and selection process resulted in 14 empirical articles published in 2014-2024. A study of 14 articles found nine CDMSE antecedents and four CDMSE consequences. The results of this literature study can be used by parents, counselors and guidance and counseling teachers to assit high school and vocational school students in making career decisions. In addition, the results of this study can be used as a basis for further CDMSE research.

Abstract

Sociability is a fundamental element of Indonesian culture that emphasizes mutual acceptance and respectful presence in shared social spaces. This study explores how sociability is established and experienced by male students living in shared student housing, with a particular focus on both architectural and psychological dimensions. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach, data were collected through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 30 male residents occupying multi-user bedrooms. Participants described their everyday interactions and spatial experiences within the housing environment. The findings reveal that sociability is cultivated through shared routines, local socio-cultural practices, and communal norms, which foster interpersonal closeness among residents. Importantly, the spatial layout, such as openness, proximity, and availability of communal areas, plays a critical role in enabling social encounters. From a psychological perspective, students’ perceived person–environment fit emerged as a key factor influencing their comfort, engagement, and sense of belonging. This research contributes to the understanding of sociability in student housing by integrating architectural and psychological insights. It also underscores the importance of designing student living environments that promote cultural congruence, social connectivity, and psychological well-being, especially within Indonesian collectivist societies.
