Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies teachers use to instill disciplinary habits in students at Pittayaphat Suksa School, Thailand. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected from seven informants selected through purposive sampling, consisting of four subject teachers, two guidance counselors, and one school principal, via semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. Data analysis was based on the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The research findings indicate that teachers employ five mutually integrated strategies: modeling as the primary moral foundation; habit formation through structured daily routines; positive reinforcement tailored to students’ characteristics; dialogic educational sanctions; and participatory classroom management. The implementation of disciplinary habits encompasses three dimensions: time discipline, study discipline, and behavioral discipline. Supporting factors include the principal’s leadership commitment, a collaborative culture among teachers, and active parental involvement. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include inconsistencies in rule enforcement among teachers, the influence of social media and technology on student behavior, and cultural diversity that demands different approaches. This study concludes that the successful internalization of disciplinary values requires a holistic, consistent, and humanistic approach involving all components of the educational ecosystem.

Abstract

Indonesian children in Medina, Saudi Arabia face serious obstacles in accessing formal education with a national curriculum due to administrative limitations, cross-border regulations, and high private school fees. This descriptive qualitative study aims to analyze the role of POKJAR Madinah in supporting Package A, B, and C equivalency education, describe the implementation of its programs, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors through direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation validated by triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. POKJAR Madinah, which has been officially affiliated with PKBM Sekolah Indonesia Jeddah since 2018, provides a combination of online and face-to-face learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum with local Arabic content, and has proven to be the only legal education alternative for Indonesian children in Madinah. The dedication of volunteer tutors and community support are key enabling factors, while the absence of post-pandemic government institutional funding is a critical obstacle. This study concludes that the sustainability of POKJAR Madinah is highly dependent on systematic government funding policy interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine students’ experiences in facing harsh parental discipline and its implications for their attitudes toward Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to understand students' subjective experiences in depth. The study was conducted at SMPIT Al Fajar in Sei Mencirim Village involving one class as the research subject. The research informants consisted of several students, one Islamic Religious Education teacher, and a homeroom teacher. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that some students experience harsh parental discipline such as being scolded with a loud voice, being compared with peers, and receiving light punishment when neglecting religious obligations or when their academic performance decreases. These experiences generate various emotional responses among students, including fear, sadness, and psychological pressure. Such conditions also influence students’ attitudes in the Islamic Religious Education learning process at school. Some students tend to show low self-confidence, become passive during learning activities, and feel afraid of making mistakes, especially in religious practice activities such as prayer, ablution, and Qur’an recitation. This study highlights that parenting patterns in the family environment have an influence on students’ learning attitudes and their interpretation of religious education at school.

Abstract

Indonesian diaspora children, particularly those residing in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, face complex educational challenges, including cultural dominance and limited access to formal standard Indonesian education. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) for Indonesian children abroad through the International Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive case study approach, data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that university students effectively acted as agents of educational change by adapting the Merdeka Curriculum flexibly and differentiating instruction to foster the Pancasila Student Profile among diaspora children. Personal approaches and learning media innovations were the primary supporting factors, whereas limited infrastructure and local volunteer teachers' lack of understanding of the curriculum served as the main inhibiting factors. The sustainability of this educational innovation heavily relies on systematic synergy between universities and the government.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low academic achievement of students in the subjects of Islamic Religious Education and Character Education at SMP Negeri 2 Jati Agung. This issue is believed to be influenced by the use of learning models that lack variety and the suboptimal use of engaging learning media. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a learning model that can enhance student engagement and understanding, one of which is through the Kahoot-based Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Kahoot-based TPS learning model on student learning outcomes, specifically on the cognitive indicators C4 (analyzing) and C5 (evaluating). The research method used is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the post-test only control group type. The research subjects consisted of two eighth-grade classes, namely Class VIII-D as the control class and Class VIII-F as the experimental class, with a total of 60 students. Data collection was conducted through achievement tests, which were analyzed using a pooled variance t-test after conducting preliminary tests for normality and homogeneity. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students using the Kahoot-based Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model and those using conventional learning. This is evidenced by a p-value of 0.036 < 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the Kahoot-based Think Pair Share learning model has a significant effect on student learning outcomes in the subjects of Islamic Religious Education and Character Education.

Abstract

Mustahik families facing economic pressure have generally been unable to optimally carry out Islamic character education due to limited time, energy, and resources for guiding their children's moral development. This study aims to analyze Islamic character education practices within mustahik families receiving productive zakat and to identify the Islamic character values that develop through the Community Independent Livestock Program (Program Masyarakat Ternak Mandiri) at LAZISMU East Lampung. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, collecting data through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, with subjects purposively selected from mustahik families families enrolled in the LAZISMU East Lampung program. The findings indicate that the program indirectly contributes to Islamic character education through habituation, modeling, and experiential learning in facing challenges, with four character values identified: responsibility (amanah), patience (sabr), gratitude (shukr), and hard work and professionalism (itqan), although structured character education has not been consistently implemented as mustahik still prioritize the success of their livestock business which remains in a developing stage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of education in fostering savings habits from an early age through the introduction of basic concepts of Islamic banking to children at Tadika Tinta Khalifah Al Fikh Orchard, Malaysia. Financial literacy is a crucial aspect that needs to be introduced from an early age so that children can understand the value of money and develop responsible financial behaviors. However, in reality, many children still lack a consistent understanding of and habit of saving. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the learning process and the role of teachers in fostering saving habits among young children. Data were collected through direct education, semi-structured interviews with teachers, documentation of activities, and a literature review. The results indicate that implementing savings programs aligned with Islamic banking values—such as trustworthiness, discipline, and frugality—can help foster saving habits in children. Additionally, the roles of teachers and the learning environment are crucial in providing financial explanations that are easy for children to understand and engaging for them. This study concludes that integrating Islamic financial values into early childhood education can support the development of saving habits and financial awareness from an early age

Abstract

The governance transformation of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in the contemporary era demands a leadership model capable of synergistically reconciling classical Islamic values with the imperatives of modern organizational management. The gradual shift from centralized authority structures toward more participatory and inclusive approaches has emerged as a strategic concern in sustaining the institutional development of Islamic educational institutions. This study aims to characterize the democratic leadership practices of the kiai, examine the facilitating and constraining factors of its implementation, and assess its consequential impact on the institutional advancement of Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Ulum Centren Pangtonggal Pamekasan. A qualitative methodology was employed through a case study design, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentary analysis, with validity established via source and methodological triangulation. The findings reveal that the democratic leadership of the kiai manifests across six practical dimensions: institutional deliberation (musyawarah), authority delegation, bidirectional communication, moral exemplariness, administrative transparency, and human resource empowerment. This model constitutes a meaningful synthesis of the Islamic values of syura, justice, and amanah with the principles of participatory, transformational, and ethical leadership, ultimately producing a pesantren governance framework that is inclusive, accountable, and adaptive, while preserving the spiritual legitimacy of the kiai as the institution's central authority.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Ki Hajar Dewantara’s perspective on the Mantu Kucing tradition in Purworejo Village, Pacitan Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency; to examine the process of conducting this traditional ceremony; and to identify the role of Islamic education in shaping the community’s understanding of this tradition. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation, involving community leaders, religious figures, and village officials as research informants. Research findings indicate that the residents of Purworejo Village view the Mantu Kucing tradition as a cultural practice aimed at invoking rain during prolonged dry seasons. This tradition is carried out in several stages, including village deliberations, preparation of ritual paraphernalia, and a procession featuring two cats treated as a bride and groom, accompanied by various traditional arts. The implementation of this tradition involves collective community participation, thereby fostering values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and social solidarity. From Ki Hajar Dewantara’s perspective, the Mantu Kucing tradition can be understood as a form of culture-based education that takes place informally within the community and aligns with the concept of the Tri Pusat Pendidikan. Additionally, Islamic education plays a role in shaping the community’s understanding that this tradition is a cultural symbol accompanied by prayers to Allah SWT. The values of monotheism, patience, tawakkal, and social solidarity are reflected in the practice of this tradition. Thus, the Mantu Kucing tradition functions not only as a cultural ritual but also as a medium for social and religious education that contributes to the character development of the community and the preservation of local culture.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE), as a cornerstone of character and moral development for students, faces complex challenges in the digital age, particularly regarding curriculum content, teaching methods, and assessment systems. This research employs a qualitative literature review to formulate an innovative, adaptive, and contextual learning model. The findings indicate that the integration of information technology through the use of digital media such as animated videos, learning management systems (LMS), and interactive platforms along with the application of constructivist approaches, blended learning models (such as the flipped classroom), and the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) framework can create learning that is more interactive, personalized, student-centered, and meaningful by shifting the assessment paradigm from merely cognitive to holistic through project-based assessment, portfolios, and observations to measure the internalization of values and spiritual-social applications. Thus, this design not only contributes theoretically to enriching the instructional repertoire of Islamic Education but also addresses the practical challenges of learning effectiveness and digital literacy ultimately serving as a strategic transformation to shape a generation of Muslims who are religious, of noble character, critical, and technologically competent, with the caveat that its success depends heavily on infrastructure readiness, improved teacher competence, and a balance ensuring that technology remains a means of instilling Islamic values, not an end in itself.
