Abstract

Increasing Vocabulary Mastery of The First Year Students of MTs Yasis At Taqwa Through Concept Mapping Strategy. This study is to see increasing vocabulary mastery of the first year students of MTs Yasis At Taqwa through concept mapping strategy..The subject of this research is VII B class which is consisted of 20 students. The sample was taken by using random sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The students did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. It aimed to know whether concept mapping strategy can increase the students’ vocabulary mastery. The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery. it was indicated by the students’ mean score of post-test (1,88) was greater than pre-test (3,27). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 19, and the value of table is 1,729, while the value of t-test is 27,22. it means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (27,22 ≥ 1,729). Thus, it can be concluded that the students vocabulary mastery is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.

Abstract

The research’s purpose is to analyze cultural reader response strategies which are used by the reader to respond Dan Brown’s the Da Vinci Code novel. The objectives of the study are to know how readers respond religious views in the novel. This study is a qualitative study, the primary data source of the study is the responses from amazon.com customers and the guest who drop responds to the Da Vinci Code novel in amazon.com. The responses are from the paperback version and the secondary data sources of the study are books, internet, journals or any information related to reader response strategy. In analyzing the data, the writer employs descriptive analysis. The outcome of the study shows the readers are against with the idea about religion views in the novel, some are agreed with the idea and the others have neutral views. The dominant issue which is raised by the reader is a debatable problem in the novel dealing with Jesus marriage and having children, there is a great possibility it becomes a problematic because Brown’s initial statement in the beginning of the novel, “All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate.

Abstract

This research applied quasi-experimental method with two groups pre-test and posttest design. There were two variables of this research; they were independent variable and dependent variable, while the independent variable was Flashcard and dependent variable was students’ speaking skill. The population of this research was the second years students of MA Yafallah year 2020 consisting of 352 students. The sample of the research consisted of 60 students which were taken by using Purposive Sampling technique.This reasearch used only one instrument. That was the oral speaking test. Futhermore, that instrument process was used pre-test and post-test. Moreover, the researcher collected the data with assessing student’s vocabulary and fluency. As the result, the data indicated that there was significant differences between students post-test in experimental class and control class. The mean score of post-test (4.1) in experimental class was greater than the mean score of post-test (2.9) in controlled class. From t-test, the researcher found that the value of t-test (2.29) was greater than t-table (2.00). Therefore, the researcher suggested that The Use of Flashcard is effective in teaching speaking

Abstract

Functional grammar is a widely used systemic functional grammar. There are three strands of meaning in clauses. They are ideational, textual, and interpersonal. This research focuses on the kind of clause as exchange. So, the researcher uses interpersonal meaning. Interpersonal meaning consists of mood and residue. And we use interpersonal meaning study in our daily activity. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. This research used spoken data collected from analyzing “Learn English with Taylor Swift Talk Show”. Based on analyzing the data, the result shows that all of the clauses in the talk show use mood structure with the form of subject + infinite / finite + subject. And the residue structure shows that not each clause uses the form of predicate, complement, and adjunct. Based on the data analysis, it is found out that the mood system consists of indicative and imperative. The indicative covers declarative and interrogative. There were 154 declarative clauses. Then, 8 clauses are included in interrogative clauses. It consists of 3 polar clauses and 5 wh-q clauses. The residue structure in the transcript of “Learn English Online with Taylor Swift Talk Show” consists of predicate, complement, and adjunct

Abstract

Communication is one way to express our minds, feelings, ideas, and emotions. There are speakers, messages or information, and listeners in communication. In giving information, we use language to make the listeners or the reader understand our information. The way someone convinces the listeners can be studied in speech act theory. So, the speech act is how to do something through word or utterance. This research aims to find out the types of directive speech acts and to find out the most frequent directive speech act used in the English textbook “Pathway to English” for senior high school grade X. The data was collected from the English textbook “Pathway to English” for senior high school grade X. This research is included in qualitative research. The result of this research showed that there are three types of directive speech act, they are command, request, and suggestion. The percentage was found highest in suggestion 82% or equals 29 suggestion.

Abstract

Nowadays, worldwide still struggling with a pandemic of a virus that is called novel coronavirus. This virus has expanded from 2019 till now. Subsequently, governments decide on modifying each single scope including on education. Government restricts face to face meeting toward cutting off Covid 19 expanses. Government has to provide a new rule of teaching the learning process. This situation has an enormous encounter between teacher and student; they should conduct a teaching learning process by online. Thus Google classroom by Google is one of one stop platforms in the electronic learning process. It assists both teacher and student to conduct online class and they can arrange assignments generously by utilizing Google classroom. The method that was employed in this research was a library research. Arikunto stated that literature studies in research are methods of collecting data by seeking information through books, newspapers, magazines and other literature that aims to form a theoretical foundation (Arikunto, 2006). The entire research stands on discussing the effectiveness of Google Classroom by Google both qualitative research and quantitative research. This condition defines that online learning has a significant role in pandemic. Since the research collects the entire journal, the researcher obtained that this research clearly clarifies that Google classrooms effectively support online learning in Covid 19 pandemic.

Abstract

Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange. Same as with the problem of this film one of the sociological problem of this film is the father have no money to give his children some happiness, homeless and always confused to eat everyday as we know economical problem is the big problem.While Marx and Engels wrote little on education, the educational implications of Marxism are clear. Education both reproduces capitalism and has the potential to undermine it. With respect to reproduction, it is informative to look at key texts by Althusser and Bowles and Gintis (and the latter’s legacy). As far as challenging capitalism is concerned, considerations are given to both theoretical developments and practical attempts to confront neoliberalism and enact socialist principles.

Abstract

The conflict theory has been used to explain a wide range of social phenomena, including wars and revolutions, wealth and poverty, discrimination and domestic violence. It ascribes most of the fundamental developments in human history, such as democracy and civil rights, to capitalistic attempts to control the masses rather than to a desire for social order. The theory revolves around concepts of social inequality in the division of resources and focuses on the conflicts that exist between classes.focused on the conflict between two primary classes. The bourgeoisie represents the members of society who hold the majority of the wealth and means. The proletariat includes those considered working class or poor. With the rise of capitalism, Marx theorized that the bourgeoisie, a minority within the population, would use their influence to oppress the proletariat, the majority class.The uneven distribution within the conflict theory was predicted to be maintained through ideological coercion where the bourgeoisie would force acceptance of the current conditions by the proletariat. Marx further believed that as the working class and poor were subjected to worsening conditions, a collective consciousness would bring the inequality to light and potentially result in revolt. If conditions were subsequently adjusted to address the concerns of the proletariat, the conflict circle would eventually repeat.

Abstract

This research discusses violating conversational maxim found in a movie entitled Fast and Furious 1 movie. This research has two main purposes which are finding the types of violating conversational maxim in that movie and explaining why the violations appears. The writer uses the theory of cooperative principle by Grice (1975). The source of this research is Fast and Furious 1 movie. In completing this research, the writer applies data collection method with an uninvolved conservation observation technique and analytical method with sorting determinants technique. The result of this research found that violating conversational maxim occurs when speaker does not fulfil a proper maxim during conversation to make certain meaning and is the discovery of all types of violating maxim purposed by Grice (1975). The analysis found 3 violations maxim of quantity, 9 violations maxim of quality, and 2 violations maxim of relation

Abstract

This study is to explore the use of STAD (Student Teams-Achievement Division) to improve listening comprehension. The participants are the second grade students of SMKN 1 Demak which consists of 34 students. This research design is classroom action research. It is aimed to improve students’ participation and comprehension in listening. This research was done in six meetings with the different types of material. There are two cycles in every cycle include two meetings; those are cycle I, and cycle II. The data collection techniques used in this research are documentation and test, the researcher took a test of their improvement in each cycle. In the mean of preliminary assessment was 6.9, in the first meeting of cycle I was 7.3, the second meeting was 7.6 then in cycle II; the first meeting was 7.8, the second meeting was 8.0 and the final assessment was 8.4. The result of the research showed that the students’ listening comprehension skill improves significantly and the students also enjoyed in teaching listening comprehension using STAD
