Abstract

Green construction (GC) is a concept aiming at reducing the negative environmental impacts of construction activities during construction planning and implementation stages. The Public Service Mall Building Project in Tegal City is a building project that requires costs from planning to maintenance. The construction project certainly requires substantial costs. This research aims to evaluate the achievements and determine the cost efficiency of green construction. This research was conducted through a preliminary survey of the involved parties who understand the green construction concept to identify the most applied categories: the use of refrigerants without Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP), regional materials, environmental control over cigarette smoke, and pollution from construction activities. The type of research is qualitative, with data collection techniques carried out through interviews and direct observation. The data analysis for cost efficiency involves comparing green construction projects with non-green construction projects. The results of the benchmark measurements for using refrigerants without Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP), regional materials, and environmental control over cigarette smoke in the green construction projects achieved 100%, while the benchmark measurement results for green construction concerning pollution from construction activities achieved 50%. Based on the cost usage analysis of the upper structure construction of the Public Service Mall Building in Tegal City, the cost usage of the GC project is 9.25% more efficient than that of the conventional one.

Abstract

The Kerupuk Sehati Factory produces and sells cooked and raw crackers. The production capacity of raw crackers is 1000 kg per day for 8-9 working hours with 17 employees. The problem is that workers feel an excessive physical workload, so worker performance decreases and workers cause errors, namely, products become defective. This research aims to measure workers' mental and physical workload and make improvements so that workers' workload is reduced. Workers' mental workload was measured using the NASA-TLX method, and workers' physical workload was measured using the CVL method. Measurement results based on NASA-TLX revealed that the average mental workload is in the high category of eleven workers and the very high category of six workers. The calculated CVL values showed that the two greatest physical workloads were felt by Respondent A, with a CVL value of 31.36%, and Respondent L, with a CVL value of 38.93%. Reducing physical and mental workload is recommended by adding exhaust fans, checking machines and equipment before production, using conveyance, organizing training, and providing rest areas.

Abstract

Converted electric motorcycles are the outcome of transforming motorcycles that run on fossil fuels into electric ones. This conversion aims to promote the growing adoption of electric vehicles, prolong the lifespan of motor vehicle products, and mitigate carbon emissions in the transportation sector. Hence, the objective of this study is to ascertain and evaluate the market position of the converted electric motorcycle industry by utilizing Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT), and Business Model Canvas (BMC) analysis. Primary data collection involved conducting interviews and utilizing brainstorming approaches with professionals from electric vehicle manufacturers and academia. Nine business strategy models for converted electric motorcycles were derived from the investigation using the BMC technique. According to the examination of the Internal Factor examination Summary (IFAS) and External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) matrices, a growth strategy has been selected. This approach indicates that the business possesses strengths and opportunities. Therefore, it requires policies that promote rapid expansion through comprehensive, integrated, and diversified methods. Recommendations for further research include exploring company strategies that use a circular and sustainable approach.

Abstract

Traffic signs are essential in maintaining smoothness and safety on the road. However, many drivers still violate them, causing various negative impacts. Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) is a technology that detects and identifies various types of traffic signs by utilizing artificial intelligence in the domain of computer vision. TSR has been applied in various vehicle applications, such as the Advance Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving System (ADS). This system integrates camera sensors with the YOLOv8 algorithm, which has high accuracy and fast data processing. The data used were 2093 images and annotated through Roboflow. Then, data were trained through Google Collaboratory with a mAP evaluation result of 95.5%, showing that the system can detect objects accurately. The precision of the model in detecting objects was 93.5%, while its success rate was 93.3%. The testing results of the system can utilize images, videos, and cameras in real time.

Abstract

This research was conducted in light of a planned investment for residential housing construction in West Jakarta, given the minimal availability of land in the area in terms of land size, price, shape, and other factors, necessitating an investment feasibility study. The purpose of the investment feasibility study is to analyze the viability of this investment. Besides the limited land availability, there is often uncertainty during the sales stage. Thus, this study employs a two-stage stochastic programming model. The houses to be built are divided into two types: houses with a width of 4 meters and houses with a width of 4.5 meters. The two-stage stochastic programming model created consists of 2 stages: stage 1 during housing construction and stage 2 during sales. The objective function is to get the maximum net present value (Zmax). The overall time required for this investment is 4 years. After creating a two-stage stochastic programming model, the analysis was carried out using the Solver Add-in in Microsoft Excel. The analysis concluded that the maximum net present value expected in this investment is 4,092.036 million Rupiah; with a positive net present value, this investment is acceptable. This analysis was added with the calculation of IRR as a supporter of the net present value, resulting in an interest rate of 23.63%. Given a large enough IRR, it can be concluded that this housing development investment is acceptable.

Abstract

At the Fish Auction Place (TPI) of Sadeng Beach, Gunung Kidul, fish are manually transported using wooden bearers and pieces of plastic drums used as fish containers. The weight of the transported fish ranged from 90 - 110 kg for each transfer. The fish transport was carried out on the shoulders of two workers of different heights and ages. During fish transporting, the workers had awkward working postures. The worker's posture was characterized by flexion, inclination, and torsion. The Nordic Body Map (NBM) survey revealed reports of stiffness and pain in the shoulders, lower back, and knees. This study aims to evaluate the potential risk of injury in the process of fish transporting. The evaluation used the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) technique. The findings indicated that both workers'activities fell into the high-risk category, with a REBA score of 14.00, remarked with a very high-risk category. Immediate activity improvement is necessary for safety from injury risks.

Abstract

The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has encouraged the utilization of ceramic waste as a supplementary cementitious material due to its potential to reduce environmental impacts and improve resource efficiency. Ceramic roof tiles are manufactured from clay obtained mining activities, which can alter natural land topography. The annual production of ceramic roof tiles in Kebumen Regency is estimated at 174,424,333 units, with approximately 95% as standard quality requirements, resulting an estimated waste generation about 8,721,216 units per year. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of ceramic roof tile waste powder (CRTWP) as a cement substitution material on the workability of mortar. The novelty of this study lies in investigating the influence of CRTWP with a fineness higher than cement on mortar slump flow behavior. The experimental program included fineness testing using a Blaine apparatus and slump flow testing using a flow table. CRTWP was used in varying percentages: 0%, 10%, 20% 30%, and 100%. The results indicate that increasing the proportion of CRTWP in the mortar mixture leads to a reduction in slump flow, thereby decreasing the workability of the mortar.

Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive assessment of the Rakihan Lake geosite in South OKU, Indonesia, utilizing Participatory Action Research (PAR) and the Modified Geosite Assessment Model (M-GAM). The PAR approach actively engaged local communities, government officials, and site managers throughout the research process, fostering collaboration and integrating local knowledge with scientific expertise. The M-GAM method was employed to evaluate the geosite’s main and additional values across 27 sub-indicators, reflecting both expert and visitor perspectives. Results indicate that Rakihan Lake possesses moderate principal value and low additional value, primarily due to limited geological knowledge, inadequate infrastructure, and restricted accessibility. Despite these challenges, the integration of PAR and M-GAM proved effective in identifying key areas for improvement and promoting participatory conservation strategies. The findings underscore the importance of community involvement and targeted geoeducation in enhancing the sustainability and development potential of geosites.

Abstract

This tudy aims to design a fog-to-water conversion device using the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) and Kano methods to address clean water scarcity in high-altitude environments. The research begins with a literature-based identification of technical challenges in existing fog harvesting systems. These challenges are categorized into attributes and analyzed using TRIZ contradiction analysis, which maps improving and worsening features into a contradiction matrix. The matrix yields inventive principles such as segmentation, preliminary action, taking out, and beforehand cushioning, which generate specific solutions that form the basis of the conceptual design. Subsequently, the design is refined using the Kano method. The TRIZ-based design attributes are integrated into Kano questionnaires, which were distributed to users for data collection and analysis. The results identified 9 levels of importance and evaluated 7 functional and dysfunctional features. Of the 7 features integrated with TRIZ, 5 were selected for retention and development. This study concludes that the TRIZ method effectively resolves design conflicts and supports the development of innovative and adaptable solutions, while the Kano method validates the conceptual design based on user needs and satisfaction.

Abstract

The annual production of defective ceramic roof tile waste is estimated at around 15,262 tons yet remains underutilized. Previous studies reported that substituting cement with ceramic roof tile powder finer than cement does not significantly enhance mortar compressive strength. Furthermore, the effect of waste powder exceeding cement fineness on fresh concrete performance has not been sufficiently investigated. Therefore, this study examined the effect of ultra-fine ceramic roof tile waste powder (CRTWP) as a partial cement replacement on concrete slump loss behavior and water demand. The tile waste was ground to achieve fineness higher than cement using the Blaine air permeability method. Slump loss tests were conducted using an Abrams cone on concrete mixtures with CRTWP substitution levels of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% by weight of cement, with initial slump values maintained constant. The results revealed that incorporating ultra-fine CRTWP produced similar final slump loss values, despite differences in required mixing water. Higher water content signified better workability retention and slower early-stage stiffening. These results implied that ultra-fine CRTWP could be used as a partial cement substitute without adversely affecting fresh concrete workability, provided appropriate water adjustments are implemented.
