Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of anemia and the risk of chronic energy deficiency in women of childbearing age greatly affect the health of children at birth, including the potential for low birth weight. Anemia in pregnant women can lead to fetal growth disorders, miscarriage, prolonged labor, puerperal sepsis, and maternal and fetal death. Uncontrolled anemia in adolescents and women of reproductive age (15–49 years) poses risks to pregnancy, childbirth, and pregnancy outcomes. Adolescent health is crucial as it determines future reproductive health. Adolescent girls are at higher risk of anemia because they tend to experience greater blood loss during menstruation. Research objective to determine the effect of anemia education on knowledge and compliance with iron tablet consumption among female undergraduate nursing students at ‘Aisyiyah University Yogyakarta. Methods: The research method used was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of students in their second and fourth semesters, with the criteria being female students aged 18-24 years who consumed iron tablets, selected using purposive sampling with a total of 32 respondents. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods Results: The results of the Wilcoxon test analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 for compliance and a p-value of 0.002 for knowledge. Conclusion: There is an effect of anemia education on knowledge and compliance with iron tablet consumption among undergraduate nursing students at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition of hemoglobin deficiency that can reduce the oxygen transport capacity in the blood and cause tissue perfusion disorders. One of the most common interventions is blood transfusions to improve peripheral perfusion. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of blood transfusion administration in improving peripheral perfusion in anemia patients. Methods: The research design used is a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the study was one anemia patient who was treated at the Alkautsar Ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Bantul on March 6-8, 2025. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, physical examinations, and medical record reviews. Results: After two blood transfusions of PRC, there was an increase in hemoglobin levels from 7.6 g/dL to 11.7 g/dL. Positive clinical changes were also observed, such as pink conjunctiva, warm acrail, increased peripheral pulse strength, and increased oxygen saturation up to 99% without supplemental oxygen. Conclusion: Blood transfusion has been shown to be effective in overcoming peripheral perfusion and is not effective in patients with anemia. This intervention supports the improvement of tissue oxygenation status and overall hemodynamic stability of the patient.

Abstract

Family nursing is a comprehensive service where the family is the main focus of care which includes the assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation and evaluation stages to improve health welfare in the family. One of the problems in family nursing is family coping inability. Family coping inability is the behavior of the closest person, namely family members or significant others, which limits the ability of themselves and clients to adapt to the health problems faced by clients. Weak family coping when facing problems will cause psychological disorders such as anxiety which can interfere with daily activities. Anxiety is one of the most influential psychological disorders and is the 25 leading cause of the world's disease burden in 2019. Anxiety disorders occurred in approximately 301 million people in 2019. Anxiety in Indonesia itself continues to increase every year. According to the records of the Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI), 68.8% of Indonesian people experience anxiety disorders and will increase to 75.8% in 2022. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the 5-finger hypnotic distraction technique. The research was conducted on Mr. S's family. Data were collected using an assessment sheet and the methods used were interviews and demonstrations as well as the practice of the 5-finger hypnotic distraction technique. The results showed a decrease in the level of anxiety in Mr. S's family after routinely applying the 5-finger hypnotic distraction technique. S's family after routinely applying the 5-finger hypnotic distraction technique. This proves that the 5-finger hypnotic distraction technique is effective for reducing anxiety and can improve family coping.

Abstract

Sensory perception disturbances, particularly hallucinations, are common psychiatric issues encountered in mental health nursing services. Hallucinations are symptoms of mental disorders in which an individual experiences altered sensory perceptions of internal or external stimuli, accompanied by diminished, excessive, or distorted responses. This study used a case study method involving one patient with auditory hallucinations treated at Grhasia Mental Hospital, Wisma Sembodro. A holistic nursing approach was applied through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis formulation based on the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standard (SDKI), and intervention planning aligned with the Indonesian Nursing Outcomes Classification (SLKI) and Nursing Interventions Classification (SIKI). Nursing interventions included techniques such as confronting hallucinations, distraction through conversation, scheduled activities, and enhancing medication adherence. The results showed a noticeable change before and after the interventions in the patient with sensory perception disturbance: auditory hallucinations. Evaluation indicated gradual improvement in the patient’s ability to control and redirect hallucinatory stimuli, as reflected by increased scores in pre- and post- intervention assessments, although the symptoms did not fully disappear. It is recommended that future research involve more patients to obtain more diverse and comparable results. The therapy duration should also be extended to better observe patient progress over time.

Abstract

Background: Physical inactivity remains a major public health issue, contributing to metabolic disorders such as hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia. Aerobic exercise is one of the recommended physical activities to support metabolic control. This study aims to explore the relationship between aerobic exercise frequency and bood glucose and cholesterol levels in community exercise participants. Methods: this cross-sectional design was applied to 40 members of the ELS studio who had been participating in aerobic exercise for more than one month. Data were collected through interviews and biochemical tests for random blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Exercise frequency was categorized as irreguler (1x/week), less regular (2x/week), and regular (3x/week). Bivariate analysis was performed using the Contingency Coefficient, Kendall tau-b, and Kruskal-Wallis’s test where appropriate. Results: There was a significant association between exercise frequency and blood category (p=0.034), and between exercise frequency and cholesterol levels (p=0.027). Participants who exercised regularly were more likely to have normal glucose and cholesterol levels. Although the Kruskal-Wallis’s test did not reach statistical significance for either blood glucose (p=0.147) or cholesterol (p=0.057), the lower mean ranks among those who exercised regularly suggest potential clinical relevance. Conclusion: Regular aerobic exercise appears to be associated with better glycemic and lipid profiles. These findings support the role of community-based aerobic programs in metabolic health promotion, although larger studies are needed to confirm these associations.

Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia remains relatively high, recorded at 189 per 100,000 live births in 2022 (Ministry of Health RI, 2023). One of the main contributing factors is high-risk pregnancy, which is influenced by pregnant women’s limited knowledge of risk factors, particularly the concept of the Four Too (too young, too old, too frequent, and too many). This study aims to determine the effect of education about the Four Too on the knowledge level of pregnant women in preventing high-risk pregnancies in Simpang Village and Pauh Kurai Taji Village, Pariaman City. This research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental approach and a one group pre-test and post-test design. The population included all pregnant women in Simpang and Pauh Kurai Taji Villages, with a sample of 15 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire on knowledge of the Four Too and analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed that before the educational intervention, most pregnant women had a moderate level of knowledge (53.3%), and only 26.7% had a high level of knowledge. After the intervention, a significant improvement was observed, with 73.3% of respondents having high knowledge and none remaining in the low category. The paired t-test produced a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the education on improving knowledge levels. It can be concluded that education about the Four Too is effective in increasing pregnant women's knowledge regarding the prevention of high-risk pregnancies. Therefore, educational interventions such as counseling and reinforcement through digital media are recommended to be routinely implemented by healthcare providers.

Abstract

Palliative care (PC) is a critical component of healthcare, aiming to improve the quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Globally, an estimated 56.8 million people require palliative care annually, yet only about 14% receive it, highlighting a significant gap in service provision. This shortfall is particularly pronounced in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where over 80% of the global need exists. To explore the effects of palliative care education on students’ readiness to provide end-of-life care; a study at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho. The study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive design between December 2024 and April, 2025. Twelve students were interviewed face-to-face and individually using a semi-structured interview guide. The interviews lasted between 55–90 minutes. Data collection and analysis occurred together. Conventional content analysis approach was used to analyzed the data till data saturation. Only participant who consented participated in the study. Three themes and six sub-themes emerged from the data. The themes were; 1. Enhanced Knowledge and Understanding of End-of-Life Care, 2. Emotional and Psychological Preparedness for End-of-Life Situations, 3. Application of Skills and Professional Role Development. The study revealed that palliative care education significantly enhances students’ knowledge, emotional preparedness, and practical skills, thereby improving their overall readiness to provide compassionate and competent end-of-life care. Integrating structured palliative care education into nursing curricula is essential to prepare students for effective participation in end-of-life care delivery.

Abstract

The adventure tourism sector is characterized by innate risks, making the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) risk perception of its workers a critical element in preventing accidents. Understanding what workers perceive as high-risk is fundamental to elaborating effective safety management systems. This study aimed to identify and analyze the OSH risk perceptions among workers in the adventure tourism sector in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A semi-quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted with 68 adventure tourism workers. Participants rated the consequences and likelihood of 43 specific hazards related to their work environment, equipment, and human factors. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify the highest and lowest perceived risks. Preliminary findings indicate the highest overall risks perceived by workers involve human factors and equipment deficiencies. These include dealing with inexperienced tourists, the presence of untrained seasonal workers, poor physical condition of participants, slips, trips, and falls from height, and the use of improper or substandard equipment. Hazards perceived to have the most severe consequences are primarily systemic failures, such as the failure to provide for extreme conditions, the use of substandard equipment, the absence of required safety equipment, and the failure to inspect and maintain equipment. In terms of frequency, workers most often reported experiencing business pressure to operate under any circumstances and dealing with inexperienced tourists. These results highlight a pressing need for focused interventions, including comprehensive tourist briefings, mandatory training for all staff, rigorous equipment safety protocols, and the establishment of a stronger safety culture to mitigate the most prominent risks in the adventure tourism industry.
