Abstract

Immersion education is described and discussed in this paper since it has already been successfully implemented in countries where English is used as a Second and First Foreign Language such as in Singapore and Hungary (Johnson & Swain. 1997). Different models using varying percentages of the target language on campuses allow for different levels of success at each institution. Following a discussion on the relative usefulness of each strategy for teaching immersion education in English as the First Foreign Language (EFL) classes, this paper concludes that only eight of nine strategies can be used in teaching immersion education in EFL classes in Indonesia

Abstract

The birth of industrial and technological education is merely yielded through a long journey of social movement in Europe triggered by educational reformers that opposed to scholastic philosophy. While the scholastic group, dominated by the feudalism, despised all manual work (technology), the reformers recommended that school curriculum at any level should contain a certain portion of technology. The process of teaching and learning should be related to industrial situation. If we trace the development of the social movement, we find that there was also some progress achieved in the system of technological education, such as the Russian, Sloyd, Manual Arts, Industrial Arts, and Vocational Education

Abstract

This study was aimed at examining the effectiveness of Structure-Based Writing Assignments (SBWA) in minimizing learners' grammatical errors in English compositions. The assignments were focussed on grammatical items the learners had found the most difficult. This classroom action research involved 17 students in an advanced writing class. The results show that there were significant differences in the frequency of the learners' grammatical errors in the use of verb phrases, complex sentences, pluralization, and noun determiners before and after the provision of SBWA. The findings suggest that SBWA is an effective remedial program given in a writing class as it contributes to the development of learners' competence in English grammar
