Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tiga tujuan yaitu; (1) mengidentifikasi apakah teknik DIE lebih efektif daripada teknik Konvensional; (2) apakah teknik Objek Langsung lebih efektif daripada teknik Konvensional; (3) manakah teknik yang lebih efektif diantara teknik DIE dan teknik Objek Langsung dalam keterampilan bercerita dengan alat peraga pada siswa kelas VII SMP Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya Kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Penelitian ini merupakan quasi experiment dengan randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) teknik DIE lebih efektif daripada teknik Konvensional dalam keterampilan bercerita dengan alat peraga pada siswa kelas VII SMP Plus Munirul Arifin Praya Kabupaten Lombok Tengah dengan mean difference sebesar 12,14286 dan nilai p ≤ 0,05; (2) teknik Objek Langsung lebih efektif daripada teknik Konvensional dalam pembelajaran bercerita dengan alat peraga pada siswa kelas VII SMP Plus Munirul Arifin Praya Kabupaten Lombok Tengah dengan mean difference sebesar 5,91429 dan nilai sig. 0,030 ≤ 0,05; (3) teknik DIE lebih efektif daripada teknik Objek Langsung dalam pembelajaran bercerita dengan alat peraga pada siswa kelas VII SMP Plus Munirul Arifin Praya Kabupaten Lombok Tengah dengan mean difference sebesar 6,22857 dan nilai sig. sebesar 0,021 ≤ 0,05. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, teknik DIE adalah teknik yang paling efektif.Kata Kunci: teknik DIE, teknik objek langsung THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIE TECHNIQUE AND DIRECT-OBJECT TECHNIQUE IN STORYTELLING SKILLS USING REALIA ABSTRACTThis research was aimed at identifying: (1) whether DIE technique is more effective than conventional technique, (2) whether direct-object technique is more effective than conventional technique and (3) which is more effective between DIE technique and direct-object technique in story-telling skills using realia at Grade VII Students in SMP Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya. This study was a quasi-experimental research using Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The finding revealed that (1) DIE technique is more effective than conventional technique in story-telling skills using realia at Grade VII  students in SMP Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya indicated by the mean difference: 12.14286 and p-value: ≤ 0.05, (2) direct-object technique is more effective than conventional technique in story-telling skills using realia at Grade VII  students in SMP Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya indicated by the mean difference: 5.91429 and sig. value: 0.030 ≤ 0.05, (3) DIE technique is more effective than direct-object technique in story-telling skills using realia at Grade VII  students in SMP Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya indicated by the mean difference: 6.22857 and sig. value: 0.021 ≤ 0.05. Based on the research findings, DIE technique is the most effective technique.Keywords: DIE technique, direct object technique

Abstract

This article is an introduction to the basic concept of using the modality ofk nnen 'can' in German sentences. The k nnen unit of modality functions to revealthe speaker's attitude and has the status of a verb modifier. Modality is divided infunction by some linguists into different areas like epistemic modality, modalitymarkingadverb, and deciderative and optative mode devices.On the basis of the results of a study conducted, it could be concluded thatthe modality unit of kí¶nnen 'can' in a sentence in German has the characteristics asfollows: (1) it is merely an attributive element in a verb phrase rather than a coreone so that if deleted the sentence remains grammatical, (2) its relation to any otherelement is loose in nature, and (3) its position is so firm that it cannot be permutatedwith any other element in a sentence. In addition, in sentences the kí¶nnen modalityvaries in meaning according to sentence context. The meaning expressed by thekí¶nnen modality can be of possibility, ability, or permission.Keywords: the kí¶nnen modality

Abstract

Abstract(Title: Scientific Approach Application Analysis on Task in Indonesia Language Text Book for Seventh Grade Students Based on Curriculum 2013). This research aims to: (1) know the steps of "Scientific Approach" which are reflected on the tasks based on complete steps, (2) know the steps of "Scientific Approach" which are reflected on the tasks based on the sequence steps. The research design used in this research is content analysis. The main  instrument in this research is human instrument. The research data is collected with "simak" method with tecqnique "baca" and "catat". The data analysis is done using distributional method with tecqnique "pemilahan" based on catagory. The research reveals two findings. First, based on the complete steps, there found complete and incomplete task step. Abstract

Representation is a strategy that journalists employ to present events in newsitems. Language expresses social functions and meanings in situational and culturalcontexts in society. This study employed phenomenology. The data sources were dailynewspapers Kompas, Jawa Pos, and Surya, which were randomly selected. The data werecollected through focused observations, theoretical and logical triangulations, andsnowballing. The researcher was the main instrument, equipped with a data codification,descriptive analysis guideline, explanatory analysis guideline, and data corpus table. Thedata were analyzed by using the descriptive and critical discourse analyses. The analysiswas interactive, involving reduction, display, and inference drawing (verification). Thestudy shows the following findings. (1) Vocabulary representation consists of associationand metaphor. (2) Grammar representation consists of process and participation. (3)Representation of clause combination or local coherence consists of elaboration,additional extension, contrast extension, optional extension, and heightening extension.Keywords: representation, news item, critical discourse

Abstract

(Title: Role and Function of Self-Access Learning Center in UNY). This study aims to develop self-access reading materials for learning English independently. This research was conducted with the Research and Development model by following the steps: needs assessment, design and development, evaluation and revision, and a try out field. Data collected through questionnaires. There are three questionnaires used, namely for needs assessment, for expert judgment, and for field trials. Sample for needs assessment was taken by proportional quota sampling representing all faculties at UNY, while samples for the trial were taken purposively. The collected data was analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results of the study showed that SAC UNY had not been widely known by students. Even after the introduction of online tutorials since 2015, the SAC is no longer visited by students. Thus the teaching materials developed should also be in the form of online. SAC socialization was also deemed necessary so that students were more familiar with the existence, function, and role of SAC in developing the English language skills of UNY students.Keyword: SAC, teaching materials, language skills, English

Abstract

Research findings show that in general Indonesian students' reading ability is stilllow. This is attributable to, among others, poor reading habit, which is caused by lowreading motivation. Several aspects cause low reading motivation: (1) family andneighborhood environments that do not support reading habit, (2) society's low bookbuyingpower, (3) limited number of good libraries, (4) negative effects of electronic mediadevelopment, (5) learning model that in general does not make students read, and (6)inappropriate learning system for reading. To improve reading motivation several attemptscan be made: (1) making children get used to reading since their early age, (2) providinginteresting books, (3) creating an environment conducive for reading, (4) reconstructingthe library performance to make it interesting, and (5) developing a learning model forreading that is enjoyable, varied, and educative.Keywords: reading motivation, literate society
