Abstract

Edmund Husserl is wellknown as a person who created his own phenomology. This article articulates Husserl’s idea which has been continued by Maurice Merleau-Ponty in human affair, and by Peter Berger in the matter of social construction. Merleau-Ponty criticizes Descartes who separated between res extensa (body) and res cogitans (consciousness), and proposes a concept of human being as sspiritually-body (embodied spirit) and bodily-spiritual (spiritualized-body.) The main core of Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy is to see human being in the unity of body-soul-spirit at once, without separation. Whilst Berger views that human being actually forms his world by following tendency and development of his—apart from psychology—socio- culture. Thence culture becomes main key of Berger’s philosophy.

Abstract

This paper will provide a comprehensive understanding of the notion sunnatullāh and natural law, both in terms of science and the Qur’ān. Then it will also see the similarities and differences between the two. In this respect, the writer questions whether the sunnatullāh mentioned in the Qur’ān is similar to what meant by the laws of nature? Are the natural and all applicable laws inherently absolute and static?, and consequently they do not change gradually, and do not allow or support the development of science? Above questions need answers from the writers of theology, especially Indonesian, to discuss theology of nature in line with the discussion of nature itself which is done by scientists. So far there are indications these two terms have different purposes and meanings. This difference in the reformulation and reconstruction ultimately requires an understanding of theology, especially about the notion of natural law and sunnatullāh which has been the understanding of elementary students of theology and author in Indonesia.

Koentjaraningrat is an Indonesian anthropologist who has many ideas. An interesting Koentjaraningrat idea in relation to the Quran is 7 (seven) elements of culture as an ethnographic principle. This idea opens new horizons related to the Anthropology of the Quran. The subjects in the study of Al-Quran Anthropology have focused on the linguistic verses of the Quran without trying to reveal other anthropological elements such as those contained in the stories of the Quran. This study will integrate 7 elements of culture in anthropology with the stories in the Quran, such as language, science and technology, economics and livelihoods, social systems and social organizations, arts, and religion. The results of this study are thay stories in the Quran in accordance with these 7 elements of culture. Abstract

In the past decades, multiculturalism as a policy in Western Europe and in the United States of America was taken for granted as a kind of ‘success story’ for a ‘New World’ to replace the ‘Old World’ connotated with conservativism, racism and facism. But nowadays, new debates arise on the contestation between multiculturalism policy and terror attacts by certain radical groups on behalf of Islam. Muslims now are seen as potential threats for Western hegemony, and are considered not compatible with Western democracy values. Judging this, a question arises: is multiculturalism policy still need to be sustained? Is this an end or the failure of the multiculturalism ideology following the development of Islamophobia? This paper analyzes sources of the many success and failure factors in the practice of multiculturalism in the Western countries.

Abstract

This article aim to disclose and understand the concept of dakwah implemented by the Dakwah movement in the Kebon Jeruk mosque, and to know how their understanding of the verses referred as evidence arises some concepts of dakwah done such as khurūj,  and the verses that are a foothold to preach with the concept of Jawlah.  Based on the results of the research, concluded that the verses of Dakwah which are referenced and understood by the jamaah Tabligh are essentially the same as most other dakwah movements. In understanding some verses that are then used as the basis of their arguments, it can be said that they are more looking at the literal-textual aspect, rather than the substantive-contextual meaning. And for the emergence of the concept of Dakwah with the name Khurūj and Jawlah, is a representation of the Prophet and his companions Dakwah when spreading Islam in the Mecca, and not based on Qur’an.

Abstract

This study will begin by discussing the history of the Qur’an, the Qur’an as a revelation, the history of the writing of the Qur’an and the content of the discussion of the Qur’an. By describing what the initial scriptures were written about and when the general codification of the Koran was agreed upon became the main global reference, it could be understood by educated people, especially the laity. As we already know that the Koran in general is initially a complex thing, meaning that the process of occurrence requires stages that are not instantaneous. Various concepts related to the scriptures, such as “God, Angels, Revelations, Prophets,” are often understood as taken forgranted. Likewise the process of revelation of the Qur’an, such as narration, writing, gathering and opening, is often not a concern. This paper intends to discuss the Qur’an from a Historical-Theological perspective. Other things accepted in dogma, such as God's word, verse structure, spelling, and structure of the text, are questioned again by positioning in the historical context at the time the revelation was revealed and then written. The emphasis of this paper is on the process of sacralization of the Koran having a long journey and intersecting with the historical events of the Muslims between the aural and the codification of ‘Uthmānī. Briefly, outlining the history of revelation and writing of the Koran becomes a “holy book” for religious communities. The process of sacralization of the "holy book" cannot be separated from the increasingly mature written tradition of human life that is complex. But does not deny the tradition of previous writings, such as the Bible or books of the Jews and Christians. Because the tradition of writing al-Qur’an is imitating from previous books. Is that right?.

Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to point out Ṭabāṭabā’ī’s metaethical idea, that is moral realism, based on the principle of moral philosophy which found in his theory of I’tibāriyat, a theory of perception dealing with various kinds of perception related to practical action of human being whether individual or social. Departing from many problems related to ontological and epistemological statuses of morality that have not been solved yet by several modern metaethical theories, cognitivism and non-cognitivism, this Ṭabāṭabā’ī’s metaethical idea is considered enable to give alternative solutions by proposing two points as the results of reflection on it that morality in the case of metaethical study is imaginative-cognitive-relative and existent in threefold components (action, pupose, and nature of an actor). The elaboration of this reflection in the same time constitutes a response to those modern metaethical theories especially Naturalism, Emotivism, and Anti-Realism. The method by which the writer presents this article is analytical-critical-comparative method, that is, to analyze every idea or theory of metaethics mentioned and, then, by comparative-critical approach, the writer attempts to provide a response to some claims from Naturalism, Emotivism, and Anti-Realism.

Abstract

This article will explain and analyze Ali Mustafa Yaqub’s hadith understanding on the hadith of transferring a heavy rain with a geographical approach. The author observes that there are still many problems of misunderstanding on this type of hadith that are apparent among Indonesian Muslim communities, especially the citizen of Jakarta when facing heavy rains and floods in early 2020. The geography science is not a source of Islamic law, but this science can be one of the instruments on understanding the hadith correctly. Based on the geomorphology of geography, the hadith prayer for transferring a heavy rain cannot be practiced by the Jakarta residents because that prayer will only cause floods in Jakarta due to heavy rain that came down in Bogor and return to Jakarta. Ali Mustafa offered a prayer for the citizens of Jakarta when facing heavy rain with the phrase "O Allah, send down a rain at the sea, not to us and around us". This kind of understanding is only applicable to the residents of Jakarta and other cities that have a form of land like Jakarta like Bekasi.  For the cities which have landforms like Madinah can recite the prayer because it was indeed recited by the Prophet when heavy rains and floods occurred in the Medina.
