Abstract

The echoes of the democratic festival grow louder. The legislative elections on April 9, 2009, as well as the presidential and vice-presidential elections on July 8, 2009, draw nearer. Each promotes the idea that the leader from their party and faction is the most competent and worthy of selection. Leadership in Islam is viewed as a crucial instrument. The absence of leadership would lead to chaos for the nation and state. For this reason, scholars agree that appointing a leader for Muslims is a religious obligation. The following article seeks to explore Ibn Taymiyyah's thoughts on the process of selecting a head of state, the qualifications a leader must possess, and the relationship between the leader and the people.

Abstract

Liberation Theology in Latin America emerges as a theological reflection shaped by a socio-political context characterized by oppression, economic disparity, and cultural alienation. This theological movement seeks three interrelated forms of liberation: first, liberation from economic, social, and political oppression; second, liberation from institutionalized violence and dehumanization; and third, spiritual liberation from sin, enabling communion with God and humanity. However, its application has sparked controversy due to its Marxist analytical approach, which promotes political revolution, justifies violence, and challenges ecclesiastical authority. Critics argue that this theological perspective aligns with atheistic, materialistic, radical, and anti-capitalist ideologies, positioning it in opposition to Western thought.

Abstract

The foundation of multiculturalism, based on identities created from free choices, assumes that firstly, religion must be viewed as a cultural construct, a reality originating from various texts that seek to create new meanings and imaginations. In a society where multiculturalism is not embraced, the resulting form of society is communalism. Such a society prioritizes identity politics (identity recognition) over difference politics (pluralism recognition).

Abstract

This paper seeks to dispel misunderstandings about Sufism by refuting such accusations. It will not, as scholars often do, present all aspects of Sufism, including its definition, origins, development, teachings, doctrines, practices, and other aspects. Instead, it will focus on responding to these accusations. Through this approach, the paper aims to provide a correct understanding of Sufism.

Abstract

This paper tries to describe the function of error analysis in teaching and learning target/foreign languages. The term of target/foreign language here, refers to the language which is being learned by the students. While, the term of first language refers to the language which has been mastered earlier by the students, the first language here may also refer to the students’ mother tongue, although in the study of language acquisition the two terms should be differed clearly. This paper also tries to explain the relationship between error analysis and contrastive analysis. Both of the analyses are sometimes used in the teaching and learning of languages. Besides that, this article also presents the causes of errors made by the students, the impacts of the errors in communication, and the techniques to avoid, to reduce and to combat the errors in learning and teaching the target languages. Notes: In this paper there are some signs: * —indicates the part of error, — indicate the missing part that become an error. There are also symbols of phonetics derived from English Pronouncing Dictionary written by Daniel Jones.

Abstract

The main concern of this study is how the Qur'an can address each of its readers in a current and contextual manner. So far, the Qur'an has been claimed as a religious text that remains relevant for all times and places (shāliḥ li kull zamān wa makān), whereas at the time of its revelation, the Qur'an (certain verses within it) had its own context (historical context). Hence, understanding the occasions of revelation (Asbāb al-Nuzūl) of the Qur'an becomes crucial in order to comprehend its verses.

Abstract

This paper would like to point out that the conception of citizenship in the doctrine of comprehensive ethics of Islam are in line with the ethics of modern democracy and human rights equation. The background of the emergence of the concept of citizenship in the classical Islamic doctrine is influenced of a war situation, namely the global terms of conflict between Islam and non-Muslims. However, the classical scholars concept of dzimmī that contain elements of discrimination is no longer can be applied because it is not in accordance with the example of the Prophet and also the concept of the modern state. So that the treatment of non-Muslim minorities must be returned by the example of the Prophet as set forth in the Charter of Medina, whose contents are still relevant to modern context for it contains universal human values.DOI: 10.15408/ref.v13i3.904

Abstract

This article attempts to criticizes the thoughts of Maurice Bucaille, an Orientalist from France who doubts the authenticity of the hadits contained in the book Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, especially those relating to medicine. As the primary sources that author uses, the Book of La Bible, Le Coran, et La Science which has been translated into Indonesian by M. Rasyidi with the title Bibles, Quran, and Modern Science. This research seeks to examine and examine the thinking of Maurice Bucaille and then analyze the traditions that are doubtful of their authenticity with a medical science approach. The hadits that are authenticated by Maurice Bucaille -ḥadīth about the development of human embryos, hadits about flies, hadits about the usefulness of dates, and hadits about fever- are authentic hadits seen from a medical perspective.  In other words, the hadits is in accordance with modern science. This proves that the criticism shown by Maurice Bucaille is incorrect.
