Abstract

Coastal area is an area of transition from terrestrial to marine ecosystems. This area is generally suffered by human, including gold mining activities. The existence of gold in Bombana discovered 2008, making the region as the center of public attention. The appearance of a gold mine in this region other than a blessing, but also brought new problems, especially in coastal areas. Therefore, a routine monitoring is needed to maintain environmental sustainability. Total Suspended Solid (TSS) is one of parameters that are often used for waters quality monitoring. In this research multi-temporal Landsat 8 (2013 to 2015) and in-situ measurement (November 20, 2015) were used to estimate the distribution of TSS. From the analysis, the concentration of TSS in 2014 decreased by 2.88% (36.97 g/m3) and increased by 6.76% (81.64 g/m3) in 2015. The results showed that all estimated-TSS overestimated the permissible water quality threshold (TSS ≤ 80 g/m3), it could be concluded that the gold mining activities in this area has decreased coastal ecological quality.

Abstract

The paper proposes a new computational approach using the moving element method (MEM) for simulating the dynamic responses of Mindlin plate resting on a viscoelastic foundation subjected to moving loads during abrupt braking. In this approach, the governing equations as well as the plate element mass, damping and stiffness matrices are formulated in a convected coordinate in which the origin is attached to the applied point of the moving load. Thus, the proposed method simply treats the moving loads as ‘stationary’ at the nodes of the plate to avoid updating the locations of moving loads due to the change of the contact points on the plate. The interaction between the moving load and the plate during abrupt braking is accounted for through the vertical force and tangential wheel-pavement friction force. The effects of wheel sliding, load deceleration magnitude, friction coefficient, and plate thickness on the dynamic responses of plate are investigated.

Abstract

Abstract

Sustainability theory is considered important in the world. The theory has evolved the paradigm of architecture design to the level where it has reconsidering the environment, social and economic. However, the sustainable architecture development plan often implemented from a partial sustainable development theories. This research will discuss the theories of sustainable development that take a place in fisherman settlement area. The fisherman settlement is chosen as the context due to the vulnerability of the area in Indonesia, which showed by the government policy regarding the fisherman settlement. The theoretical study will cover general sustainable development concept to sustainable housing and settlement theories especially in fisherman settlement. This research utilizes a logical and critical argumentation method with descriptive analysis.

Abstract

Several  researchers have been undertake in finding alternative materials in order to be used as a modifier in asphalt mixture for the purpose of improving its properties. This research presents a study of laboratory evaluation on the performance of hot-mixed asphalt (HMA) using crumb rubber as an additive. It is noted that crumb rubber was identified to have potency as a modifier in HMA due to the elastic behavior exposed by the rubber particles, especially in reducing the rutting potential. This study fine crumb rubber Shred (2.36-0.85 mm) obtained by ambient-temperature grinding process from discarded truck tires, was used to modify asphalt concert. The fine crumb rubber with different contents, i.e. 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%, was incorporated into the mixture by using dry and wet process method in differentent temperatures. The Marshal properties, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), Indirect Tensile Strength test (ITS) and Indirect Tensile Strength Modulus (ITSM), Permeability   were conducted. The result showed that marshal stability, Marshal Quotient, Voids in Mix (VIM) and Voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) decreased with the increasing crumb rubber modifier. However, Marshal Flow and Void filled with asphalt (VFWA) increased when crumb rubber modifier was increased. The crumb rubber asphalt mixture result indicated has increased amount of crumb rubber in asphalt concrete mixture will decrease the Marshall Stability and permeability test shows that asphalt concrete without crumb rubber lower than AC with crumb rubber strength compare to other mixture.

Abstract

The development of communication systems is not only limited in its use for human interaction and mobility with various electronic devices. However, it is expected to be a solution for traffic management and management strategies. The number of vehicles is continuously increasing especially in big cities so it needs communication between vehicles for the development of VANETs technology. The IEEE international standards communication system establishes the use of the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE). With the IEEE 802.11p standard, it is possible to build an integrated information and communication-based transportation system. In this research will be analyzed VANET communication performance through parameters of packet delivery ratio, routing overhead, and packet drop. VANET uses NS-2 as a simulator and AODV routing protocol. In a network, routing protocols are very influential on VANET network performance. Simulation scenarios with VANET using Nakagami and TwoRayGround propagation models are expected to result in connectivity performance on interoperable communication networks (V2V) with IEEE 802.11p standards in VANET environments. From the experimental results in the AODV protocol scenario using propagation modeling, the value of packet delivery ratio, routing overhead, and packet drop with the Nakagami transmission model is better than the value of packet delivery ratio, routing overhead, and packet drop with TwoRayGround transmission model has good value but Unstable in the node transmission process. Thus, the performance of the Nakagami transmission model looks more stable overall than the TwoRayGround transmission mode

Abstract

Sago contains carbohydrates that are stored in the starch form. Starch is generally formed from two molecules of glucose polymer, namely amylose and amylopectin, which its composition varies for each type of starch [1]. The weakness of starch can be overcome through a modification of the functional properties of starch to expand sago starch. Chemical modification of starches can enlarge the range of certain starch physical properties of the parent starch [2] and enhance their use in a number of applications found in industrial processes and food manufacture. Chemical modification of starch can be performed by various methods such as acetylation. Generally, native starch has a low Degree of Substitution (DS) because of their limited degree or reaction on the granule surface. Increasing DS can be obtained by modification of native starch through acetylation reaction using few catalysts such as pyridine and NaOH. Several researchers have reported the effects of acetylation on many sort of starch sources such potato, corn, pea and cassava [3-5]. There are few studies about the effects of acetylation of starches with a wide range of amylose contents. We have carried out some work on effects of acetic anhydride concentration toward DS value of native and modified sago starch from Papua.

Abstract

The construction of Light Rail Transit (LRT) infrastructure requires a large amount of funding, larger than the existing Regional Budget (APBD), and therefore requires a funding scheme with high financial feasibility to cover this financial gap. This research is aimed at identifying and determining suitable sources and their respective proportion for such scheme using secondary data from literature study and records on the capacity of funding sources, and primary data from in-depth interviews, descriptive analysis and analysis on the capacity of each funding source. It is expected that the result of this research can identify feasible sources of funding and their proportion to be applied in the construction of LRT.

Abstract

Investigation on flexural behavior of cold-formed steel (CFS) C back-to-back beam has been conducted in this study. In North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, there is only the information on the spacing condition of C back-to-back beam. In the present experiment, twelve C back-to-back beam specimens with different connection spacing and cross-sectional dimension were tested under four-point loading. Bolts were used for connecting two C section beams. From the experimental result, the influence of the thickness and connection spacing of the C back-to-back beams were observed. Nonlinear finite element analysis of the beam specimens are performed, and compared with experimental result. It was found that the difference in ultimate load obtained from experimental and numerical result, are less than 30 percent.
